I still love the game but I decided to not resub for a few months or until some big improvements happen. I think people who are getting burned out should do the same. Some people still do have plenty of fun right now. Combat was only like 25% of the game for me and I got bored of crafting/grinding. Once I got a house I didn't feel like I even needed to play anymore.
Hopefully they balance things, add new non-combat things and fix some of the things in-game now. I still check the forums and IRC everyday and looking for the time when I can come back and have loads of fun.
Also I don't think mortal is "dead" or "finished." If we are honest, at its peak mortal had less of a population then pretty much any other big mmo. That was when there were less features and less stability then now. Once the game gets really going, I think more people, especially ones who don't even know of mortal yet will flock to it and everything will be awesome.
Rainbows and shit awesome.
Just have to wait for it...
Soon(tm)

Although the system will be much better than before, yes, I guess some people will be angry and leave. Like people leave when they realize it's a full loot game. It's part of the design, and me saying it's a prioritized and important feature are not empty words.
