Hello,
For the next A part of this QnA part of this forum I'm hoping to hear your views on casual players and PvE players and how you plan on adressing their desires. I have the understanding this game will have it's main focus on PvP players with plenty of time on their hands. But I sincerely hope that you will also make it playable for casual players as well as those with more of a PvE interest. These are two large user groups (especially the casual players) that I doubt you will be able to make a profit without. More users = more €! (As I posted in another thread, both give you just as much revenue per month even if one only plays 2 hours and the other one 200.) So what are your thoughts on this and how do you plan on gaining (and keeping) their interest? |

This game is FFA enviorment, it does not mean PvP by itself, but of course, with the freedom of possibilities, we will see a lot of PvP.
Each and every PvE'er can play FFA enviorment games, as long as they have the willpower to tolerate those who are only for the fragfest.

I am casual because of school and life but what I want to know is: Can a casual player do something important like kill an epic monster? So it doesn't end up like WoW with nihilum being the only guild that ever matters?

Huh? I was a casual player in WoW (was hardcore at times, but in TBC era I played maybe 8 hours a week tops) and the guild I was in was only a month or two behind the top guilds at any given time. In other words, if anything WoW made it TOO easy for casual gamers to achieve great rewards. I knew people not in good guilds (for whatever reason, because they were tools not being the only one) that played 10x more than I did but because I was in a good guild I was able to get much better gear than them with 1/10th the effort. WoW was more about who you knew to get into good groups (either for pvp or pve) than it was about time dedicated or skill exerted. Just like real life, heh. I imagine (read: hope) that MO will have some things that will only be accomplished through hard work and time and skill spent. Otherwise everyone will have an empire and a top-tier god, and then what the hell is the point? |

This is however not the question I was looking for an answer to from th e developers. What I'm looking for is comments on what kind of thoughts they have put in to making the game attractive for these two player types. I tend to agree with Ultenth. A casual player will probably not be able to participate in the large world-altering events, killing ultra-elite-unique mobs and so on, or at least not play any significant role in it. That's where I put my faith into the hardcore players. But there still needs to be events, content etc. available to make the game exiting for the casual player as well. MMOs where you need to spend month after month to get the best 'setup' (gear or otherwise) before it starts to be fun will never attract the casual player. So I'm basically asking for some more details on the developers thoughts on this. |
