I was reading another thread and it got me thinking about magic and its usefulness in close-quarters. What if there were a sub-tree of each type of magic that was close-quarters magic?
Close-quarters magic could include all kinds of magic. A few examples might be enhancing whatever weapon your are wielding, a magical block, a magical guard-breaker (take care to keep this balanced), and simple touch spells that cause your character to reach in front of him/her and touch their opponent for damage or to put a curse/hex on them.

The examples of magic you list as close-quarters are quite common in most games so I would assume they would be present in MO. Although I hope they don't make weapon augmentation type spells necessary for melee combat. I would not mind simple close-quartered stuns or knock backs but if they turn too heavily towards magically enhanced modes of physical attacks I'll be somewhat irritated.
