One point also important for me not only the act of combat more believable also the result afterwards. Why i do combat only for killing someone? No real warrior would kill only because its possible, or he is a murderer, but i want also warfare not only muderer online. Results and consequences after fight must be also more realistic, especially because there will be a PvP world.

i agree with you etwynn exept for 1 thing. Chainmail protected against slashing damage but not very good against piercing damage, plate was good against piercing damage so weapons such as a warhammer were used to punch through the plate with there weight. Good platemail could stop arrows and bolts.

ok people, you need to LARP more. all of you. and i mean Russian LARPs - not the regular LARPs with plastic weapons...
platemail may deflect piercing damage if it's shiny & waxed & the attacker sucks, but realistically in combat - no it doesn't. it gets pierced. chainmail on the other hand, doesn't - a normal human blow isn't tough enough to expand any of the rings, it doesn't just go through it, and it holds the piercing weapon at bay - yes, you bleed a little, but nothing fetal. even if the ring is broken by the blow, it already lost all momentum while doing so. a slash can simply break the rings at the core points along the edge of the weapon - it doesn't go against the entire ring, and even when it doesn't break the rings, it still supplies heavy blunt damage due to the impact of the armor itself on the body. but due to it's angle, a slash is more easily deflected from it's course by platemail - it doesn't go straight at the plate, and thus some of the momentum energy is lost at the process. the best weapon against both a chainmail or a platemail, is pure weight & momentum - or in other words - big bunt weapons. it simply doesn't need to pass through the armor to hurt like hell. ofcourse, you also loose mobility in order to take that momentum & raise the heavy sun of a beach of a weapon, so more damage per impact doesn't mean more damage overall.

Hello everybody
I'm new around here so I want to explain where I'm comming from. I'm an addicted Neocron player. Don't know if anybody here knows about this Game. This game is an Cyberpunk MMORPG from a German Company. And it's i think the only game on the market where you actually fight ( FP or TP) with your crosshair and your aiming and movment skills. http://ng.neocron.com/ I don't want to make advertising here, but in terms of PVP I'm searching for an Game which gives me a game where i fight with my own aim and my own moves, not the stuff which we can find everywhere ( Klick and autoattack or hitting the number keys vor various attacks while standing still in front of the enemy). So, surfing the Internet I ended here in the Hope to see this game getting out of the "Norms" and give me some real Combat Action. If you want to look up some PVP movies of Neocron just go to youtube and look for Neocron 2.2 evo (latest version). The community is realy smal and there are actualy no high quality movies, but you can take a look at the combat system. Now it's time to look around the forum....men what a heck of work... cu guys |

The combat system must by simple and intuitive enough to make you able to focus on fighing with your enemy instead of fighting the interface or playing annoying console style directional mashing minigames like in Age Of Conan melee combat.
Do not forget that if made smart, even the most simple combat system can grant deep and entertaining gameplay.

I like to keep it simple. Light armour absorbs less damage then heavy armour. You can have a mix of heavy armour and light armour on your person. If you're hit on a place where you have heavy armour you thus take less damage.
I don't want it to turn out too complex, especially not with the lag that's bound to happen in an MMORPG. |

Good points, would be nice, but you have to remember we're still restricted to mouse and keyboard for input. We don't have 2 joysticks, one for each hand to control two weapons or a single weapon and a shield. Then a third form of input to move around with.
Leaning vs. Strafing is a good idea, can bind those to two keys 'Q' and 'E' as an example as I would imagine most wouldh ave strafe left/right as 'A' and 'D' in FPPoV. Armor types and their weight/role to the player/opponents are very good points and should not be hard to implement depending on how they handle attack speeds, global cooldowns (returning to "ready" after an action), and weight of objects and how much one is able to carry.

How about buffs?
Folks speaking about realistic combat and known buffing is realistic? So we want realistic perhaps animations, weaponresults, but combat-support is only gameplayconstruct?

Spears and shields? This will probably not be a popular idea again but...
I would like to see the combat system encourage shield walls etc. Benefits for keep your ranks tight. It would take away from individual heroics though.
