The thing about most vampires is that you shouldn't be able to tell that they are even a vampire at first glance...meaning they should generally look like humans, have the ability to intereact and group with humans and travel amongst their cities. This would require the game timeline to be a bit slow though to give you enough time to try to find groups during the game's night time. Or, as mentioned, find a vampire clan. Also give the vampires some underground,indoor content, or very shaded zones in which they can still interact with things when the sun is up.
