Depends how much detail they go into for the religion/cult system. If there's a penalty for losing your deity/god then that would be awesome.

Maybe the top pvp person could become something god-like and we could raid him. Then after he's beaten we could move on to the next top person. Like only once per character. Once every 2 weeks or week. Just an idea..

Gods are only immortal as long as they have worshipers :P. They soon die out or become pulp fiction when no one believes in them or believes in another god.

True if you want to think of it in that way, though honestly they'd not really be "Dead" they'd just be some wanker sitting in the corner of heaven, valhalla, whatever the backwards flying feck you think is up there. Who eats chips quietly whilst in said corner, and at night stares at the ceiling wondering "Where it all went wrong." and occasionally considering giving fellatio to a gun barrel. Only to wake up the next morning and realize they have to go through another day of it.

...Or we can go use your version, it is a bit less emo, eh?

(Note to all you wankers probably cocking an eyebrow and wondering exactly how many bowls of angst I consume on a daily basis. Its three, also the above silliness is me just writing what initially comes to mind and finding it funny in my own twisted humor.)

This would be a way players could change the game world too
Maybe not killing a god in the actual sense of you slaying it. However since there having a religion/belief mechanic were you choose and worship a god and make your own cult for that god. How about maybe if you wipe out enough players of that god or enough shrines/temples (could be many other things you could destroy) and then finally kill maybe its chosen champion ( could be a very skilled/high ranking pc or npc) the god will gain less power and slowly fade away. However it could be a constant struggle so unless followers of one god continuosly beat or destroy the other gods minions or objects it will probably never be fully vanished. This could play into the enviroment to.

Say if the god of lights followers are winning the war against the god of nights followers , the area wheres there usually alot of influence from the god of night could start to change, less dark scenery maybe brighter etc.

It could be like a faction vs faction concept but with gods if you all get my meaning ? Slaying another gods champion you could get special skills or abilities or even a special title e.g ( Dark God Champion Bane ) Just ideas anyway.

Hampo, that's actually a really good idea. Something like RvR, but with religious roots. I like it, and it makes sense. Some sort of influence system would be the best bet for 'killing' a God.

I am for fighting them but I don't think that gods can die because they well...are spirits and unless there is another realm beyond the spiritual one then that doesn't make sense.

Agreed. Lol.

@Vanndal
I believe the thread is about physically killing gods, not convincing people to stop believing in them :P

The Deva's which control all of your characters are basicly divine deities.

I'm surprised throughout all of these replies, I didn't read what i am about to suggest.

Gods, in the technical term, are immortal, that is something we should all be able to agree on... But I don't think we should be limitied to *not* being able to attack.kill them.

HOLD on now, I'm not done, don't raise objections just yet.

An idea: A corporeal form of that god/goddess. Eh? Yeah, The corporeal body of the god/goddess, something that dwells here on the world, that is tangible. On the immortality thing, immortality really refers to a corporeal object that cannot be destroyed, gods and goddesses are not immortal, but rather intangible, limitless, and infinite. Their spirits are the infinite part, but the body can be destroyed.

It's a compromise, We get the satisfaction of other players not being able to TOTALLY screw up our game, but they get the statisfaction of THINKING they can take down a god/goddess' corporeal body. Let me make it clear, it should NOT be freaking easy, it should be next to impossible, after all, they are pretty much Uber incarnate, that's why we call them gods/godesses.

Now, there should also be some dire consequences for such an act, or even the attempt at such an act. I don't know to much about the whole religion thing just yet, but I could see one such consequence as the withdrawel of the god/godess's influence on the world. Such as maybe (For argument's sake) the death of Hades? If mortals killed my earthly body, I'd be pretty pissed and I just might shut the gates to the underworld, having spirits and ghosts of the once living to have no place to go, hence wreaking havoc on players, maybe I open the portals to let lose Hell Hounds into the world to act out my vengeance? And a god should never be completely blocked off if his/her body is killed off, afterall, they are what? That's right gods... So have a set time when they re-enter the world, not necessarily as they once were, maybe as a giant Rock Lobster instead of their first appearance in the form of Oprah (*cough* BEGONE SATAN! *cough*) =)

Just my two cents.

Because the consequences are so bad for little things like that, I think attempting to kill a God would be VERY bad and incur the wrath of the others, as they fear for their lives.

I assume you've gotten this idea from God of War, and if that's a correct assumption, stop playing a platformer, and start thinking about MMOs.

I'd have to agree with this. Although I would have written it with a bit less aggression. Mortals shouldn't be killing gods in MMORPGs. Players aren't the protagonist in most MMORPGS, so why should a regular old person be able to kill a god? It just doesn't sit right with me.

use pagan gods because their lore says they can be killed using things like a sword with the blood of an innocent for a summoned pagan god that kills for the summoner(s). killing a pagan god would only affect natural things like crops failing & maybe bad luck. this would also allow players to summon certain gods & when you lose control of it, it comes for you. obviously summoning one would require rare items & probably a sacrifice. this is just my way of having fun, hunting demons & gods

Well in cultures mythologies gods actually could be killed. In Scandinavian mythology I guess gods could be killed by other gods(Loki killing his brother, etc) or other powerful mythical creatures, but not human. I suppose there will be some kind of religious wars were worshippers lead by their god could assist theyr god in killing enemy god? I see it like epic quests and experiences involving doing really much different stuff for worshippers as opposed to WoW style boss raids.
