Concept Screenshot - Creature in an orb?

It's been a while since I started a thread... but I was looking around at the screenshots and artwork to try and something about a different topic. I came across the Sladd(?) image and noticed what looked like a little creature in the ball. I'm thinking it's either an imp, or some bug-like creature.

Necromantic thinks it's just a flower.
Stryver mentioned that it may be partially smoke and reflection of the Sladd's armband.

Either way, I would like to get some input on this. And possibly any information that I may have missed pertaining to this concept piece. I don't recall anything off hand.

That is a purple bug face, with yellow bug eyes. I think I see pincers at the mouth.

It's kind of an odd looking thing. I thought about an egg too for a moment. Though it doesn't look slimy despite it being shiny.

Try and take a look around the red lines, its not just a head, its a entire body, looks like wings on it aswell, my guess? Some sort of Gargoyle/Imp thing.

Yea, I was going for that, but I didn't want to show too much and lose the effect on the head.

I am going to leave the option open for it being the lotus as well though. As the head could be the flower showing the stamen. That thing seems to be showing up (maybe not exactly) in a few other images.
