Default Cooking

It would be nice to have cooking be available, and with a wide variety of foods that we can create. I really enjoyed playing as a chef in UO. In addition to standing on street corners advertising the goods I cooked and had for sale, I also hired myself out as a wedding caterer. It may not sound very exciting to some people, but it was actually pretty cool being able to do it.

To me, the fact that you COULD make money as a wedding caterer in an MMO sound amazing. UO really had a lot of different stuff going on.

Yeah, it was amazing! It also made me feel significant, and that's a feeling I don't get with a lot of current MMO's. The only way to feel significant in them is to have the best combat gear, and that's unfortunate.

I realy hope cooking will be avaible, Saddly Iv never got to play UO but I kinda liked cooking in WoW even if it was easy enough a fetus could do it...I also hope fishing is in, I can see it now: A camp of Adventurers sitting on a bank of a river cooking fish and playing music. Now that sounds like a nice day in my book.

cooking, herbalism, alchemy, all of the sort of games in which you combine components & experiment with them to create new ones, are some of the most fun (and addicting) features an MMO can have IMO.

Ok, some folks are surely knowing my main interest is in realizing believable and interesting combat, but anyway its not only a totalwar-rior MMOG it will be a MMORPG with hopefully not only some, more much worldfeeling.
So cooking (and sure not only cooking) would be really something for fun, i remember weddings in UO with nice cakes and nice festivities, but also in SWG Both games important you can 'drop' practically all items to be for all visible and useable (at least in houses).
But also i must say such things in UO were great also because combatpossibilities not my preferred style.

I dont know if there will be civilians-professions, but i would like more if it would be gameplay to play a civilianchar with her/his abilities and professions, instead of the egg-laying woolmilkpig, the halftime warrior who is curiously also the best known artist in the world with no fulltimeprofessional rivals. In the morning he goes to battle, and afternoon he relaxes at the easel. Nice, for me a bit to nice.

If the crafting/gathering system was deep enough, I would may well play that.
It needs to be deep, interesting and more than drag/drop menus though.
It was certainly needs to be NOTHING like WAR. (I saw the recent video on their crafting, and was confused to why April Fools was so late)

Which is why it remains to be the most open minded sandbox game on the planet. You want to compete in a sandbox market you have to think along those lines. Where absolutely "anything" that your mind can think of is possible.

You want to fill your mug with water? Take it to a lake, ocean, puddle...
You want to put some logs in the fireplace? Go chop at some trees!
You want to make some cloth for tailoring? Pick some cotton or skin some sheep for wool.
You want to grow a garden? Plant some seeds into a flowerpot.
You want to sleep with sebastian? Send him naughty photos via PM. ( Haha )
You want to steal an item from a shop? Be prepared to be guard whacked!
You want to do anything in a MMOPRG? Play Ultima Online!

I agree with cooking! I'd love to be able to roast some boar meat over a campfire.

First time posting. Cooking was just one of those things in UO that made it feel like a free world. It really lets you have fun, do what you want, and be rewarded (by cooking often, your cooking skill would rise and you'd make better food. Genious system!)

In another thread i wrote for smithing you must drive like in PGA Golf your mouse to get a result.

And here for cooking you must circle the mouse for stirring the soup
Sure more a joke, but why not?

It would be surely possible with the mouse, the golf-games realize it for a long time now and you need no special controller. Wii you need special Wii equipment and as result fine graphics???
Anyway realtimecombat is enough but i demand it, because its also a point by the devs. So if that would be in future a discussion point ''if rt-combat should be created or not'', then i would be absolutely more than disappointed.
Realtime cooking not a must be

If cooking ingame i hope anyway the results will not end in the backpack as a statistic icon with a number beside.

I want to drink milk from a cow's nipple in game! That is something that even UO didn't even offer!

Though I like the idea of mini games for crafting. The thought of having to do the game over and over and over, for those who would make crafting a primary thing, sounds like it would get annoying after a time.

Just make it interesting with different combinations, and methods of combining.

Cooking is one of the most open-ended professions out there. Allowing for nearly endless results from different combinations.
Though I can't say how challenging it would be to offer an open-ended cooking system for the coding perspective. Perhaps start with a base "recipe", code for "perks" from added ingredients (say add in Dragon meat and get +10 max HP for a short time or something), and place the major ingredients in the end-item description. Just a thought.

So, let's say I wanted to experiment with a stew.
In the Cook Book, I see "Stews".
I 'd need a [Pot], some [Water], a place to cook it and whatever ingredients I wanted to add.
I decide to throw in [Carrots], [Potatoes], [Cabbage], [Dragon Meat], [Salt], [Ginger], [Cinnamon]
The items could have a rank code in the database, the highest rank would be the "primary".
Since [Dragon Meat] would have the highest rank, this would be;

[Dragon Meat Stew]
a hearty meal
+10 max hp for 30 minutes

Were we to take away the Dragon Meat, maybe the Carrots would be the next ranked item, so it would be [Carrot Stew]. So on and so forth.

Hmm.. I really hope food doesn't give a buff.. If anything you should take a debuff for not eating.

I agree that food should not give significant buffs, but something akin to a small energy boost. However, mystical foods (like Dragon Meats) I can see giving certain benefits.

Buff or no buff, I'll not likely complain though, not a big concern to me... What I do concern myself with is the methods of crafting the foods. =)

The more I can do in this game the better. Cooking seems to be an important one to me so bring it on. However, this raises the question of needing to eat in order to survive. But I am sure this is in other threads so... I guess I will hold off on that one.
