I used to hunt DeathBlade and DarkLord.
Oh the memories, I have many... played UO since early beta up until they implemented Trammel and Fellucia. I only ever played one character, a warrior, GM swordsmanship, used to whip out my vanq halberd during the server down times. At a time he was a GM mage as well, but I didn't enjoy casting magic that much, was more fun to whack 'em and smash 'em in close-combat, then if they ran away, equip my crossbow and burry that bolt deep in their back. As I said, I think I have a couple of memories concerning DeathBlade and DarkLord, but we ended up as friends for a brief moment before I quit the game, but we never hunted together, since I was playing my character as a "good" fella. But I believe we crossed swords more than once. And it was great fun to hunt murderers and collect the bounties. I think I might have collected your ears and your heads more than once DarkLord. Anyways, good ol' times. They just don't make games like this anymore... Well, Star Vault might, but I need to experience to believe it, especially with today's gaming companies, with their misleading promises and information. Not that I distrust my fellow countrymen working at Star Vault, but as I said, you can never be sure. |

Such great stories. Lobo you take the cake by far. Reverse PK, Lol.
UO holds so many of the greatest moments in my MMO life so to speak, and at the same time some of my greatest defeats. It is hard to just tell one story, or one of the things I love doing mostw hile playing UO. But, I will tell at least one. I played on the Altantic shard. On this day, I logged on with my Fencer / thief. Over time this char became just a pure fencer with the hiding skill and abandon all other thief skills. I was in Brit, when a moonglow portal opened up. Seeing no one stepping out, and me being a little bored, couldnt resist seeing what was on the other side. I decided to take the portal leap. For all of you non UO guys, often one of the popular tricks deployed by PK's was opening up a portal in town, with the exit being by a PK house. Often times you would get adverstied with someone saying join up with raid, or cheap sells, or whatever gimick they could come up with to get you to go through the portal. Then once you came you got wacked over the head and looted. Hehe. So, once I travled through the portal I found my self on a little remote island with a mage who intentions became very clear. The entire island was no larger than my screen. Which played to my advantage I suppose. Armed with a GM spear I lunged at my assilant. To my luck as the mage stepped off to cast a spell, I quickly closed the gap and landed some blows to his cloth armor body. The mage attempted to cast a freeze spell on me. A command tactic for mages was to freeze an enemy, step away, and cast a spell, then refreeze. Luckily I deployed one of my get out of freeze cards.(Magical chests you could carry on you, and if you opened them they would unfreeze you, not logical but it was in the game). This cat and mouse game went on for a few more intervals, with the mage getting the best of me. I was badly hurt from the Cor Por spell, and I made one last run at the mage. Looking back on it, he must have thought that spell should have finished me, and a simple low cast speed spell would for sure finish me off if not. Luck be on my side as I came withing melee range, I landed a paralysis blow. For all you Non UO guys, the spear could cause paralysis for a few seconds if it proc (different weapons had different procs, this was an update patch not original release). This bought me time and life, as it interrupted his spell cast. And, with a second blow from my spear caused enough damage to kill him. I without even thinking looted his body that was well stocked with regs(mages items needed to cast spells, in UO, casting a spell wasnt free. you needed regeants.) I was hurt, I tried repeatedly to bandage my self. Evertime I attemtped to wrap my wounds, I recieved the non successful in treating your wounds error( not word for word, but something along those lines.) I was frantic, I knew an alt would be arriving at my location within minutes. And, I was still flagged in combat for some reason, which prevented me from warping out. See in UO, if went into combat, you coudlnt just chicken out and warp out from a fight, you had to wait for your combat flag to go away. I had to make a decision, keep attempting to warp out, with my low mage skill or run and hide. So, I ran to the top of the little island and hid. ( using the hide skill). Moments later a character warped in on the island, and began running around, and checked the dead body to see if it was looted. As he scurried around, he ran right by where I was hiding, then as luck have he warped out. Probably thinking I was already gone. By then, my flag was removed, and I warpped back to Brit with a smile on my face and a few more regs for my Mage. |

I played UO, but unfortunately I was too young to really appreciate the PvP aspects of the game when it was actually good. I loved animal taming, it was one of my favorite things to do on the game. The crafting was really cool too.
