Hello everyone!
I'm curious what people want to see in Mortal Online that will help to add immersion to the game and aid in roleplaying. I'll start out with one of the things that I think is a great way to add immersion - animated emotes! Remember, this is a First Person MMORPG, so it might not function as other emotes, but never the less - a good range of emotes will make the world alive. Anything from as simple as "look around" and "dust of clothing" adds a whole new layer of realism and not only for the players, but to the NPCs as well (NPCs just standing still are no fun at all!) They already have First Person View, which I personally love but only as long as it's true first person view - if I look down I want to be able to see my body. So what are your suggestions? What would you like to see that will help you immerse yourself with the world of Mortal Online? Anything goes! From changes to day/night cycles to how you want taverns to be handled. Let the developers know what we like! PS. More suggestions from me will be forthcoming, but I want you guys to give a few suggestions as well. |

functional roleplay. meaning that the game mechanics mimics similar drives that would put you in the same position of your character, making you play in a way that would make sense for your avatar to act as a character within the world, and driving the same social behaviors.
how do you do that? well, part of it is freedom, but part of it is the side of realism which people do not like hearing about - survival, food, inter dependencies, etc'... i don't mind if people speak about real life, i don't care for censorship & people who think Shakespearian talk counts as roleplay drive me nuts, but i want functional roleplay. |

Got some more suggestions.
I think Taverns should be somewhat less occupied by NPCs then in prevoius games I've played, they just took up too much space, especially if they kept talking (speech bubbles everywhere!). Taverns should be occupied by players! That said, a few NPCs should be around but they should not be the main occupants. I would also like to see larger taverns (Lord of the Rings online had some really nice large taverns, but far too many NPCs!). I would also like to see nighttime to be dark. World of Warcraft night is just as bright as day, but hopefully this wont be the case in Mortal Online. Let's make ample use of tourches, lanterns and campfires. |

A good story line that has some mysteries that we can figure out in it and like Taceur and Admiralnlson said, functional roleplay and realism. I generally do not roleplay in MMOs though.

Good music can really pull me into a scene, or into a town or something. Hopefully something good that I won't want to turn off after the first time of hearing the loop.

I think a good background to the races in the game. I tend to have fully fleshed out background for my characters, and that is a lot easier to do if you have huge elaborate racial set ups. From something I heard here somewhere, the devs have some languages written up for races, or something, so that's a huge step in the right direction. The diety system they're establishing will be another big thing, as will any other information they put out. I want freedom of roleplay, but I want to have that freedom within very strict constraints of a races societal norms.

Many good points...
Personally..I think there has to be a naming policy(On RP servers at least)..to stop the usual glut of Leet or ridiculous names...as these help break immersion. In many cases people who come in with some uber-name are just there to annoy/grief RP so such cases need to be prevented where possible with action taken to dissuade those who would thwart RP... |

Agreed on that point, however just a quick point out, we've already had a massive thread on this issue. Sadly I can't hyperlink it for you, I'm currently battling a bout of laziness.

Interaction with the environment...
I want to sit in chairs, smoke a pipe, eat some pie... I want to gather firewood make a camp... maybe play the lute (best feature in LotRo imho) The only times I really roleplayed was in a Neverwinter Nights persistant world, because it was possible... and rewarded (I dont want a reward for roleplaying - I just dont want to get punished... so maybe a roleplaying server would be nice |

to feel im a part of the world i need to have just about any possibility open to me? If i wanna strangle a kid then i can, if i wanna save a kid from a dragon? I can try but im pretty sure ill end as dragon dinner.. but ya get my point i hope?
I wanna see npc parents protecting their families if there is a battle going on near them... i wanna see peasants run in chaos and terror if a dragon fly over their village, etc... something that makes the world really feel alive... (god i sound like a sadist.. lol) |

It's not what I want to see, it's what I don't want to see.
I don't want to see question/exclamation marks above anyone's head.. I don't want to see chatboxes, combat logs, or items that cannot be dropped on the ground. I don't want to see numbers, damage implicators, countdowns, etc.. of any kind scrolling through my screen. I don't want to see mob levels, player levels (of course we wont see these), player names, etc.. I want to see intelligent NPCs and not the ones that just stand around in the same spot doing absolutely nothing. |

First most pure MMOG gameplay. Interactions not only some possible, as entire worlddesign.
Sure if mood will be perfect... a seemless world, also its surely sometimes still a diffcult development for roleplayinggames, at least more difficult than designing several clear arenes. Finally one word is for me most important for a good immersion. 'Believable' realisations. Because magic is only something fictive it could be surely very different, crafting is something more clear, but combat should be really created with believable results, i dont like absolutely recognizeabe swords or armor, but gameplay has nothing to do with the presented stuff. So, no superficial show, believable realisations are my reasons want to get deeper into a game.

Well, there are a lot of things that make up a good, realistic, first person game. Animations are definitely a huge one. For example, look at crafting in WoW. If your putting ore into a smelter, you should actually place the ore into a smelter, not rub your hands together. I made a thread with a lot of features that could implement realism into MO. Check it out at http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/1...al-online.html
