yeah i was impressed with the half-orc lore. very well thought out. it must really suck to be born a half-orc. being abandoned by mom, hated by orcs and humans alike, courts discriminating against you, no employment or education, unable to have kids, selling yourself into slavery. i'm really curious about what kind of unorthodox race starvault might throw at us next.

Now I cant deside if Im going to be a half orc or a Human... Do you think they'll put the rare traits out on random? Like ever so often when making a half orc you'll see the bright human eyes in char. creation but most of the time you wont?

Maybe I'm a negative wanker... (Hell with it, I know I am), but this seems like a pretty standard "Half-*blank*" description. Not a bad one, but not that amazing. The amount of depth they put into it is good, but its not the best thing i've seen.

Still, good to get info.

Well, thank you. No, it's not the best I've seen, and not the deepest info either. It's just that nowadays mmo's got this tendency to summarize everything into a few lines like "Big, green, bad breath, large teeth", together with +1, -1 of this and that. There's so much more I'd like to have in that presentation that's going into the game in different ways. But please, show me one mmorpg that have an equally detailed text about a half-race. (I'll be the first to update our description with more info.) And although I understand that our half orcs are in no way unique, please give me a link to "the best thing you've seen".

Well, I know that 3rd edition DnD, as well as 3.5, had a very similar description of their Half Orcs. Not exactly the same, of course, but rather close. I know it's not an MMO, but it's a major source for a lot of people. I get what Siegfried is trying to say, and in a sense I agree. However, I think I should stress that the background, for whatever was similar to something else, still went very in depth and was very well done for an early release of information. I look forward to seeing what gets expanded upon.

And of course, I eagerly await the next race release if it's as well done as this one.

And most half-ANYTHING races, its not a bad idea. Its just not some of the best stuff i've ever seen. Hell some of the best race stuff i've seen is "Homebrew" style stuff, and yet at the same time, so is some of the worst.

To be 100% frank, the "BEST EVERZ!" in terms of dealing with half-breeds would be Warhammer's stance. They don't exist, and if they do, its obviously some product of strange sorcery by heretics. Call the Witch Hunters in the awesome hats, and get some kindling.

i loved the write-up. i've probably read it five times. but hopefully we don't have to wait an entire month for another race. you guys should just release one race each friday.

That would be awesome, despite my furious picking of nits, a steady and constant stream of new info would be great. That way we can begin making up our own stories, thinking more in depth in the game.

Also, would be able to start making roleplay threads in here. Wooh!

Its not, and never was.

Merely stating that, while its not amazing, its still pretty good and hopefully the amount of effort put into it will continue to be shown.

Now I don't believe for one second that I know all of the issues that go into making races and the like. The lads in charge of the races are doing a good job, I just hoped they'd start the info release on something more original and unexpected. Half-orcs, Orcs, Humans, and Elves are such standard fare that I figured they'd be spoken about last, or have all of their info released in one fell swoop.

As stated before, I've never been a big fan of half-breed races. They're (to me) an over used idea. I suppose thats partly why I have a relatively sour view of the release in comparison to everyone else here, who seems to be giddy beyond all belief about a small morsel of info being chucked to us.

I understand your approach, Mats, however I feel like you're overanalyzing the problem. But then again, I view it from the perspective of a roleplayer, who focuses on the background and society behind a race rather than the skin themselves. Perhaps this is the reason why I find Half-Orcs to be somewhat uninspired. I've always found halfbreeds to be unoriginal in any setting, which are usually the race for people who like to play angsty and unoriginal fantasy characters.

I don't really have anything else to say other than making the point that I'm viewing the race from a roleplayer standpoint, which may not be the games key demographic.
