If that post was directed to me, I didn't mean AoC in specific, it was more of a general post while we are at it.

No-no, I am sure you meant most MMO's in general, but Age of Conan is one true definition. Age of Conan was pure joy the first hours, until it went downhill. Now, most MMO's goes downhill, except EvE where I truly enjoy every hour more than the last. Now, Age of Conan didn't just go downhill like any other MMO simply goes down the ladder slowly and precautiosly, Age of Conan on the otherhand just frickin' fell down and hit the bottom with a loud knack.

It's funny how in all trailers you only see lvl <20 gameplay (the only part where npc dialog is voiced and everything seems okay) and the fatalities etc.
Nothing about after that, and they sure know why. Btw. the funniest thing about AOC is that I was able to play on the beta servers for free up to a month after they released the game.

It might not be a good game, but the amount of attention it receives means that it will always be a point of reference for other MMO developers. Sad but true, and on top of that it's probably one of the more polished MMO games now that it has been out so long.

The lack of perspective that most of the posters on this thread display is truly staggering. Age of Conan is a very successful MMO so far, and has a lot going for it, and also a lot of disappointments for anyone who followed its development and/or played other MMORPGs before. Time will tell if it keeps its position, obviously, but to disregard it entirely is just silly.
But hey, opinions are like assholes, aren't they. |

Um, anyways, Age of Conan is successful, no one is denying that, however.. Age of Conan is successful for the wrong reasons. It will not be any more successful than Vanguard is. |

I was going to state this to get rid of confusion on it, yes, AoC had a very good first push.. But Vanguard did as well, not as big, bit in the long hall Vanguard and Age of Conan will make the same kind of income from their games.. Vanguard is actually a far superior game, AoC was marketed much better however.

Ahhh, soak it in boys, another AoC thread.
If you haven't played the game, it is fun. Fatality on a player IS fun, no matter how you slice it. Absolutely beautiful game as I've said before. Sound has a few minor hiccups, the music is top notch. What did it in for me: PvP mechanics are broke. They are still getting around to fixing the class feat trees. I rolled an assassin first, laughed at this choice, and got the Bear Shaman to 80. I can name off the top of my head 5 feats that either flat out don't work, or don't scale with your level. 1-shotting is rampant. Almost every melee character can one shot a player who's not in full plate/ heavy armor. As I left the game, players were stacking +dmg gems to their armor and +% fatality gems to their weapons to up their chances to fatality. Once the fatality sequence begins you cannot be interrupted thus ensuring your foe is down. Content @ 80 is lacking. Plain and simple. Seiges consist of 45 vs. 45 and it's more for bragging rights because these battles haven't been optimized much less the game is still new. They fix 1 bug and break 3 other working things. That hurts. I like the game, but it's shortfalls and lack of content just does not convince me to pay n' play at this juncture. |

I wasn't even aware AOC flopped.
I just hadn't been following it that closely because it seemed to be hyped for about 12 hours before it actually was released, it seemed to mark "Don't need to buy, doomed" on the game for me.

I'm actually playing and enjoying AoC.
The multitude of bugs, the lack of content, and player inactivity are some major problems, to be honest. I'm in no rush though, and I think several things in AoC look rather promising, so I'll give them some more time. |

All you guys actually enjoying AoC are just complete newbs or just completely clueless to what a MMO should be.. obviously this game will be good for you guys that have played maby 1 mmo in your life, but you honestly don't know what the hell your talking about when it comes to what a new mmorpg should be.
So in the end, It's like a movie.. 10 year olds enjoy the simple movies that hold your hand durring the entire plot.. should we be taking the opinion of those 10 year olds and making another movie out of it? sure.. if we want to make another movie for 10 year olds. Still though, if AoC were a 10 year olds movie... that movie would have been the worst 10 year olds movie ever created.. I remember when I was 10 though, If there was big bangs and lots of car crashes it was a 5 star movie to me |

Now as far as people who play 1 MMO and think all others should be like that, I agree with you. Those people are ignorant and should stop spewing nonsense. |

Maybe you should all read the blogs second post where he realizes he had no idea what he was talking about.....
I have played and run guilds in MMOs since The Realm (name drop) Conan is by no means perfect, but it's combat system is a breath of fresh air from the mindless point, target, attack............. of everything else, sadly that includes the game soon to be released, been playing beta there for a long long time and it needs a lot of work. What remains to be seen is how Funcom deals with the bad issues. Balance of classes, the level of full PvP, and the risk/reward of PvP. So far they have not done well with the patches, as every one to come out had to be followed up by another one to fix the stuff they just broke. Long story short, Conan looks great gfx wise, has a great combat system, COULD be an amazing game, but still someimes feels like palying a closed beta. It's really up to Funcom now to keep the good things going and fix the bad. They released to early. As it stands we will not be there for a long time. That could change depending on what Funcom does, but I don't see it. They are turning away from the heavy PvPers and siege people (us).

I believe MO will be instanced pretty much itself since it is showing graphic levels of much higher details than AoC has. Ever wondered why GW is instanced? Ever wondered why cartoonish ultra-low poligoned WoW is seamless? Connect the dots. |

MMORPG's are seemless games, GW is not a MMORPG.. for the same reason AoC should not be a MMORPG. When you take a MMORPG and sacrifice seemlesness for graphics I think those should not be called MMORPG's, they should be called ORPGs cause there is nothing Massively Multiplayer about them, at all. Oh and alot of you newbs need to get the wording right when it comes to Instances and Zones, Zones are not instances, zones just have loading points between borders to ease server pain, Mortal Online won't have instances, it will have zones.. much like Darkfall will. |
