Rot in hell may be a little harsh, but when a game half asses it like Age of Conan did to try to get a quick buck, we should all be in agreement as MMORPG players that it is something that should not be rewarded. Last edited by Shawk : 17th June 2008 at 18:23. |

Might I just quickly rewind to a little bit of Irony?
Darkfall's Tasos bashing the shit out of AoC, notice.. everything Tasos said, came true. http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/...-and-Substance And Weezer's response, http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/...g-the-Darkness Read both and you will see the Irony. Sweet... sweet... Irony. |

Shit Happenz !
warhammer online for example will have a better start, yet alone because of the MUCH LOWER minimum sys-req, but well, almost every "new" mmorpg that's being released is somewhat doomed, they will always be compared to wow, sadly |

I love watching mmo companies I hate fall hard. I also LOVE watching all the ass face fan boys see their mmo fall hard as well. Its cool to hang out on the forums of a mmo you are in wait for, although its good to not have any real trust or faith in the people making the game. If you have full trust and faith in the makers of the game you are in wait for.. well it just leads to great disappointment.
Its good to wait a month or two months after a game is released so that you dont get jacked of your cash. Also never trust beta to be the game. I have been jacked once and thats all it took for me to never trust any game maker again. |

In short, 500.000 active players according to Funcom. (Funcom can't lie due to laws related to share holders) To be regarded as an active player, you'll have to logon and play once. (to be able to play you need to register your key and subscription if I recall correctly) That last detail is fishy. I'd recommend basing the discussion on the press release rather than a blog post without source.

Who ever that blogger was it's quite obvious he's a WoW fanboy. Secondly, where the hell did he pull that chart from? "A recent press release"? How about providing a link then.
That said tho, I hoped that AoC would succeed so I'd have a MMO to play while I wait for something better to come out. I have to admit that I'm rather disappointed. It was fun for the first 20-30 levels but then I just sort of lost interest. I just can not stand playing an instanced MMO. I absolutely hate it. I just don't get the feeling that I'm a part of something big. I thought PvP was the most important thing for me in MMO's but it looks like I was mistaken. It's the feeling of playing in a big seamless world that matters the most to me. It's ridiculous when people can't just magically travel to "an alternative reality" if they so desire. If AoC had been set in a seamless non instanced world I'd be playing it right now and having a lot of fun. The PvP was really fun for me. I liked the combat system. Graphics were great. The world looked great. But... it was instanced. PS! I can't understand people who complain about AoC's system requirements being too high. If you live in the US you can put together a PC for 600-800$ (if you don't buy a new monitor) that will run the game decently. It's a bit more expensive in Europe. If you're a gamer then you have to invest in your PC. It's your own damn fault if your PC can't handle the game, don't blame the developers for taking advantage of the latest technology.

Just a quick example of why a blog guess is better than a Funcom statement.
Siege warfare was put into the game today, the first siege went like this... http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=93053 Notice the posting under it. This game WILL be dead by the time Lich King is released. willing to bet on that one. Last edited by Shawk : 18th June 2008 at 14:07. |

I dunno, i just get a sick feeling in my stomach whenever I'm playing a game and I find something like a siege that is not working, but it isnt working because it is not implemented yet. It's just bullshit that they would state all these lies just to get more subscribers.. people should seriously boycott this so it never happends agains. |

Yes. I admit it. Funcom were great in sending us videos, screenshots, previews, everything - from the first 20 levels! I feel tricked, I spent money I wish I'd never spend on it. I'm glad I didn't cancel my subscription to EVE.
After you depart Tortage, it's the same grindage festival deluxe, it's a major pain in the ass, and it doesn't offer anything other stuff to do besides grinding, which again, to grind even more. We all know how the formula works. All the talk about raids. Well, they're no fun at all. Maybe I never liked them, but I liked raiding in WoW ten times more. I might die, sure - but I just run back and get my tombstone, voila - no punishment. The World PvP is utter meaningless, there is no reward or loss for attacking another player, besides ruining their experience because the levels might make it completely impossible to defend and react without dying in two hits. Funcom, burn! Oh gawd, how I need Mortal Online..! |

The Beta Servers still being up weeks after the final release speaks for itself.

There are only two things that an AoC player can do.
1. Get mad, tell Funcom to choke on it, cancel your account and learn from your mistake. or 2. Keep paying Funcom who scammed you out of your cash. Stay on your knees, Funcom will be screwing you for a long time to come. Pamper yourself, you deserve it. |

Its sad to go to mmorpg.com and read all the posts by the milk drinking, dong maggots defending AoC. Someone will make a really good post about why they did not like AoC without just saying AoC sucks. After that, the person who made the really good post is just attacked by all these little fruity dudes. Its sad times when people are willing to get scammed and continue to keep paying the people who scammed them. Oh well, the community on mmorpg.com is 100% skum.

It's too bad that companies don't usually stay in beta for long enough so that players can experience more than "the first 20 levels". Not only because it tricks players in to purchasing a game that practically ends there, but also because the development team may not even be aware of that without the players telling them. Then again.. To have players experience the entire game in beta means that it could become dull or boring for them to have to do such things again upon release.
It's a tough job for the devs to have to have a perfect game when the only people that can critique it after a certain point are the developers themselves. At least being independent companies games like MO and DF have a better chance of releasing with quality instead of speed. |

I don't get why some people get so bent out of shape over a game not living up to their expectations. I had high hopes for AoC (well, not... that high) and was disappointed when Funcom failed to deliver what they had promised.
What did I do? Stopped logging on, let my free pre-order month run out and then canceled my subscription. I spent money on the pre-order, on early access, put together a new PC for AoC, spent close to 2 years following the game closely before launch. I should have plenty of reasons to be angry, but fact is, I just don't care. Just... move on people
