Default Mystery (RP) Game

As the topic says, I'm going to try to host a mystery game for every one to play. Currently accepting players to play this game . And in order to do so, you simply have to follow the application bellow.

Keep in mind the character you're participating is not you, so please try to role play your character. This character of yours is going to be a fantasy character, so please keep it fantasy related.
-----
Name: (The character participating)
Age: (of the character)
Race: (I guess humans, orcs, and half orcs, for now).
Language: You all know how to speak common (some form of english I guess).
Occupation: (Keep it medieval please :P.)
Likes: (Yeah, your character likes something to the point where he absolutely loves it).
Hates: (Something your character hates.)

Short History: (No more then 10 sentence, if you have none then just don't include it and don't randomly draw information out of thin air to say your character knows this because of a past occurrence. In other words, this could provide your character an edge in what is to occur in this mystery game over other players Try not to be too general or else you'll probably hit a lot of complications.)
-----

After you built your character, I'll list everyone who wants to participate on a simple list with number, forum name, and player name.

If at any time when the game starts you want to say something out of character just type OOC: (your text here). It could be a new post, or if it's part of your character post, then post it AFTER you role play your character. (Or at the bottom of your post.)

-----
List of players:
1. KrogGar - Korpus Festerheart
2. Siegfried - Ephilias the Demented
3. Necromatic - Lessus
4. catmorbid - Morgeher

What setting is this? Depending on the answer, this is subject to change.

Name: Korpus Festerheart

Age: 40

Race: Human

Language: Common

Occupation: Chaos Warrior (Nurgle)

Likes: Plague, Grandfather Nurgle

Hates: Tzeentch

Short Background: A follower of the Plague God Nurgle for years, Korpus has been gifted several items from his master. Most notably, and what he is proudest of, is his voice, which consists of a swarm of flies that clings to where his throat should be and buzzes differently depending on what he wants to say. Needless to say, Korpus rarely speaks, but when he does, it has an horrifying quality to it. Korpus stands at a short height of 5'6", but his bulky armour and rotting skin and features makes him an imposing and disgusting sight.

Name: Ephilias the Demented
Age: 32
Race: Human
Language: Common / Arcane speech
Occupation: Chaos Warrior
Likes: The great one's plan
Hates: The Greatfather

Short history: Once a Soldier of the Empire, Ephilias (Though its believed this was not his name at the time) became a captive of a Chaos Warband. Precisely what happened to him is unknown, however he is no longer the man he once was. He is now a chosen of the Chaos god T'zeentch, and is known for his strange behavior, even amongst his brethren. Prone to randomly changing his voice tone, suddenly changing his walk pattern mid stride, and suddenly using off the wall combat tactics (such as swinging a helmet by a decorative tuft of hair). He claims to know the master's plan, but whether or not hes completely snooker-loopy, or really knows is unknown.

I noticed you two chose designs from warhammer, but I can guarantee you, this game is going to be true to the mystery genre and the main focus is to solve the mystery. It does not mean however that a fighter will have a disadvantage to a baker in the game besides player versus player capability.

The setting I'm leaning toward at the moment is somewhere along the lines of secluded island or "stuck on top of the mountain during the incident" setting. In this game it is possible to kill another player, but it doesn't mean that player is completely taken out of the game for good. Stay tune for more info once I get a general idea of how many people will be participating.

You know followers of nurgle and tzeentch probably will HAVE to kill each other plain lorewise.

Name: Lessus

Age: 25

Race: Human

Language: Common / Spirit Speech

Occupation: Wayfarer

Likes: Knowledge, Manipulation, Provocation, Necromancy and of course pitch black Humor.

Hates: Almost everything he doesn't necessarily like.

Short History: Leading a life with no specific home he spends most of his time wandering from town to town, investigating on old lore and knowledge preferably about death.
Strength and power are one way of living a confortable life but knowing better he spent his rather vanished youth on ways of getting the most from what happens after life and how to never really reach this point.
What use is strength and power when you are gone and considering knowledge is also power what massive amount of power you could get when you have all the time in the world to study.

Yup, we coordinated it like that.

It'd be great if everyone managed to make a warhammer character, especially if they were Chaos. Would make things so much fun. Malal could join in and everything.

I could go for a Warhammer Necromancer more precise a Sorcerer of Tzeentch specialized in Dhar, so giving him a slightly mad touch.
I like Tzeentch more than the Vampire Counts.

I don't think it fits in what Vanndal is trying to do. So I'd say maybe on another try.

Bray Shaman would be your best bet, I'd say. They actually have the option of Dhar in the Tabletop. That and one Tzeentchian is one Tzeentchian too many.

One is one too many? yeah makes sense. ;P
I prefer playing human and the Bray Shamans don't have the madness factor, but I already chose my character for this setting and won't change it.

Btw. I'll now stop discussing Warhammer, don't want to spam another thread, escpecially one with sense.

I'm not that familiar with mystery games, but i'd still like to participate. So if you could be friendly enough to post a short summary on what's it about how it works etc. I know the basic concept, but would like more details. I like details

Name: Morgeher
Age: 59
Race: Human
Language: Common, Science, tids and bits of several ancient and dead languages
Occupation: Layman Surgeon/Physician
Likes: Anatomy, science, theory, mathematics, occult, philosophy, ancient cultures and languages, experimentation, obedience
Hates: Relationships, romance, restricting laws, religion and gods that lack concrete proof, zealots, stupidity, weakness, aging

Short (as possible) History:
Orphaned at young age, Morgeher spent a terrible childhood of abuse and horror, where his only joy was his studies of organic life. He performed his first surgery at the age of 7 to his pet rat, "Giggles".

At the age of 13, Morgeher became an apprentice to a local physician and at age 18 Morgeher's master performed a suicide and left everything to his apprentice in his will.

Gaining wealth, Morgeher began studying anything he found interesting, making his living as a traveling physician, occasionally unable to resist the urge of experimenting on perfect subjects. He traveled a lot.

At age of 34 Morgeher met a pathetic, orphaned half-orc child. Fascinated and even a bit moved by this outcast, Morgeher decided to give this small child a home and a proper upbringing.

The child, Krima became Morgeher's protégé and protector, whom has never left his side since. Especially in his old age, Morgeher would be defenseless against the vultures who pray upon him - and his knowledge, for he is as poor as a sewer rat - without Krima by his side.

Alright I'll start this off with welcoming you four:
1. KrogGar - Korpus Festerheart
2. Siegfried - Ephilias the Demented
3. Necromatic - Lessus
4. catmorbid - Morgeher
to my game . I'm sure you four must have a lot of questions on your mind, such as, what is the setting and what was this you can kill other player thing you said earlier.

First of all, I'll start with explaining about the "how to kill another player". Obviously no one in a forum game really wants to die, and dying simply means your character is dead and you're out of it. Except in the situation of this game, death might actually be pretty common place. Alright I'll cut to the chase:

-----
This is how I'll handle a fight between players. When two players engage in combat with each other a combat system comes into play. Each player may make 3 actions: Move, Interact, and React.

Move action is the involvement of a character moving from one location to another, but not without limit. A player may only make a short distance movement while in combat. In particular, a player may only move a total distance of 30 meters. (I will provide a map of the island and a grid for the map).

Interact action is how the player engages other players, either in chat or attacking the other player, or both. Of course when one player attacks another player the other one may use his React to counter the attack with either defense or chat, and then countering with his own Interact Action to attack the other player or convert their interact action to a move action.

Interact Action can be exchanged for a Move or a React Action. Some times events may occur where you gain additional actions.

Now you must be thinking, wait... then wouldn't the battle never end? Nope, infact it will end. Each time a player takes an action while engage in combat, they will gain fatigue points, until they reach 20. Once a player reaches 20 fatigue point, they will be unable to use React Action(s). When you are struck when too fatigued, you will die.

Generally each action will build 1 fatigue points, but there is an exception.

Moving = 1 Fatigue Point
Attacking = 2 Fatigue Point
Defense = 1 Fatigue Point
Chatting = 0 Fatigue Point
Please tally your fatigue points by the end each of your post, if you are unsure of how much fatigue your action will entail, then use OOC to ask that question and I'll reply with the same fashion. I may or may not tally up everyones Fatigue.

Naturally you will never stay fatigue completely, and each phase of the game will return your fatigue to 0, and each hour you spend resting will remove 2.5 fatigue.

Death:
The inevitable result of majority of combats is death. When a player is killed, don't hang up your keyboard and turn off your computer. In fact the player that dies gains an advantage.

In this mystery game, each player begins forgetting their history, belief, and name. When a player dies, they retain the memory they had before they died.

The game will be conducted in phases, where all player will be revived each phase, losing all their memory, except one(s) that were slain. Each player will regain their memory as they locate certain objects of importance to them. The objects of course are not always at the same location.
-----

With this said, I would like all players to conjure up 5 important item to their character and with each of those item represent 1 like and hate of your character. The item can not represent more then 1 like and hate.

Such as; Longsword - Like: Teddy Bears, Dislike: Army Men

I will choose which memory to restore per a piece of item of importance.

The main setting of the campaign will be on an island, where all the players lose their memories of their history, belief, likes, hates, and names.

If you have to use OOC, please place it above your post, before you roleplay your character.

Once I get a hold of all 4 participating players, 5 important item and it's significance, then I'll start the prologue and describe the setting (and possibly some horrible art from yours truly ><).

P.S. Sorry for the long post :x.

Hmm, this will be a new experience for me. This style of roleplay, I mean. Anyways, I think I did the list properly, tell me if I didn't.

2) Rusted Longsword - Likes: Rot, Dislikes: Weakness of Empire

3) Shield (oxidized bronze, with odd spots of slime and fungus)- Likes: Undoing, Dislikes: Purity

4) Slime covered, horned helmet - Likes: Uncleanliness, Dislikes: Hiding Terror

5) Filth Mace (Flail covered in liquid Nurgle's Rot, looks much like the Witch King of Angmar's mace) - Likes: Disease, Dislikes: Defence against disease.

1) Rusted Pendant of Nurgle - Likes: Nurgle, Dislikes: Tzeentch

EDIT: Seeing as I'm not sure how this worked, I numbered them in how I'd like to receive them.

#1: Raven feather and Blue-dyed leather cloak.

Like: Ravens (Avatar of T'zeentch)
Dislikes: Non-Believers (Leather made from a Flayed Warrior-Priest)

#2: Chaos Imbued sword, Changes Into random Item (Not always a weapon)

Like: Change

Dislike: Inability for the masses to embrace the inevitability of change.

#3: Shield made out of a strange blued metal, Random spines, small tentacle appendages line
the edge of the shield. The Symbol of T'zeentch is emblazoned on the centerin in silver, with a large
deep blue Bird's eye within the center.

Likes: The Might of T'zeentch

Dislikes: Chaos worshippers who deny his power. (Nurgle)

#4: Tainted Twin-Tailed Comet pendant. A chipped and worn twin tailed comet, covered in strange arcane carvings which he hangs on his belt.

Likes: "Spreading the will of T'zeentch"

Dislikes: Warrior-Priests (Intensely)

#5: A magical raven (Relatively small, no combat purposes), whom Ephilias claims speaks the will of his master to those who are loyal to him. To others, it merely caws and whistles in a fairly annoying manner. Often flies about him, or rests on him as he walks.

Likes: Ravens

Dislikes: Those who disregard the abstract.

I tried to focus on items that wouldn't be wildly overpowered, the Sword is just there to really amplify his strange fighting style. He'll be improvising on the fly while in combat.

Physical Description (Didn't go in depth as I didn't know if it would be accepted): Standing 6'3", combined with his armor, he is a massive man. His armor is fairly plain and unassuming for a T'zeentch chosen, it is a dark bluish-black, with many scars and knicks. A fairly simple great helm of the same metal is over his head, with a little silver rimming here and there. Wears a massive leather and chain belt, which a small skirt of chain dangles between his legs. (With item) Which a corrupted symbol of Sigmar dangles from. His face (Yes, armor is fused to a Chosen, no, this helm isn't.) is relatively normal, his skin is slightly tanned, his hair is a raven black. He has a well kept vandyke, and the hair on his head is kept fairly short. His left eye is a deep brown, but his right is a cloudy blueish white. This eye roams randomly, rarely focusing on the same thing that his left is.

Both your items are fine, including the physical description, but I'd thought you'd like to introduce yourself later :P, but anytime is fine haha.

and... yeah this style of roleplay is definitely different then your usual forum RP game. I've tried this system for combat twice, and both times there were barely any problems. The biggest problem is players questioning how would RPing work outside of combat while two players were engaged in combat.

I don't think I explained this part, but the combat RP system only applies to the players who are actually in the fray. Everyone else acts normally.

Everyone has posted or pmed me their items. Therefore I shall begin with the prologue.

-----

Legend has it that far off the coast of the known world lies an island that is protected by the gods. This island is never assaulted by harsh weather or storms, and the soil is always rich. Though not much is known about the where abouts of this island, it is known that those who step onto this paradise is cursed. It is said that on this island lies a treasure. A treasure so sacred that if a mortal were to hold it, he or she would be equal to a god among men, for this treasure is the "Key of Divinity". It is recorded in the bible of Zodius, that our twelve creators once exist in the divine plane, separated, but all powerful. After a long grueling war, our twelve gods finally came together and proposed a treaty. As a sign of this peace treaty, the twelve gods gave up their divine weapons and had them sealed away in the mortal plane, and with the Key of Divinity, bound the divine weapons forever. The key was then placed onto a world that the twelve gods created in the mortal plane. On that world, a single island that was far removed from any continent, was chosen to be the most sacred, and there the key was placed. They chose the most powerful mortal warrior on that world and placed him on the island, and bestowed onto him immortality, but with the price of eternally protecting the key.

Millenniums have past, but the legend still lives in the heart of the inhabitants on the planet. In this era, many great kingdoms have been erected and waged a never ending war for power, however the long stalemate of this war has taken a major toll on all of the nations. Just as all kingdoms were about to be submerged in chaos once again, a miracle occurred. Each and every nation gets word of an island far far away from the known world, newly discovered, but is shadowed by a eerie purple moon. All the sailors who returned from discovering this island had lost their memories, but not their skill, and a had a strange purple glow in their eyes.

The island was named, The Forbidden Island of Zodius. This quickly sparked the interest of the major nations, regardless of their disbelief in the old legend of the twelve gods, but the ounce of hope that this island held powerful magics that could tilt the tide of war in their favor made them act in haste. The nations quickly gathered and sent any able and loyal adventurers to the island. As the kingdoms began to act in such extreme, the populace also took to arms and quickly sailed to the island, in hope of getting away from the war and others in search of treasure. All hanging on the hope that this island is the island of divinity.

-----
To the players:
-----

As you wake up on the shore of the island, you see around you a lot of wrecked ship parts and dead corpses surrounding you. Just as you recollect yourself and sat up, you try to remember why you are on the island, much to your dismay, you do not remember anything at all. As you try to get up, a headache accompanies your effort as you fall on your knees holding your head, a sudden glimpse of your past flashes before you of another person calling out to you. You realize then that the other person was calling out to you was saying your name. As you shake off the slowly fading headache you stand up and to see a large tower nearby, a few paths into the forest, and a long shoreline.

[Moon Phase: Full Moon]

-----
You may all begin . If you have anymore questions you want to ask me, feel free to PM me. I will also try to provide a map of the island asap.

Still weak and barely alive, the old man tries to get up, only to find that his legs cannot yet support his weight. It is then that the arms of a sturdy half-orc grab the old man.

"Krima... thank gods..." Morgeher murmurs as his protégé comes to his aid.

"Don't speak" Krima replies with his low pitched, barely human voice, then carries Morgeher to the shadow of some trees in the beach. "I'll look for some water. Stay here and rest."

The half-orc sets of to find supplies from the beach, while Morgeher stays under the shadow of some trees in the beach regaining his strength.

The water nearby the area was somewhat tainted with the blood of the corpses and wreckage of the ship. However there were some stored water in containers that was safe from contamination.

A rattling of the near by bush, reveals a short stumpy looking young man with shades of gray hair and a dressed in tuxedo. The man steps away from the bush onto plain view and yells out, "Hello there!", as he brushes off some entangled leaves on his clothes, "You must be a survivor of that ship", as he addresses it to Morgeher with a friendly tone, "I know you may be scared of me, and you probably don't recall much of your past. If you come with me I may be able to aid you."

The stumpy young man places one of his hand on his chess and takes out a watch, as looks surprised as if he is surprised by the time of the day. He then places the watch back into his pocket and returns his gaze at Morgeher.

Awaking to the sounds of the waves, Ephilias slowly raises his head out of the sand, spitting out a small portion that had entered his mouth. "Vile granules! I shall one day make you pay for that trespass." he murmurs to himself in a rather too serious tone.

His eyes combed the beach, taking in the sights all around him. It was littered with bodies and wreckage, whom were being stripped clean by the carrion feeders. He slowly stood, shaking himself slightly to loosen the sand from his armor, and rubbing his head to loosen it from his hair.

Looking up to the heavens, he sighed, "My Lord, be this part of your plan, ever changing, ever evolving?" he shouted to it, throwing wide his arms, as if to embrace a long lost friend. "I wholly accept this, oh great one, as it is part of your perfection!" Ephilias's arms fell to his sides, and he shook his head violently. "My weak mind has forgotten, perhaps it is a punishment." He snapped out of his monologuing trance, and scooped up his helmet from the beach, and put it over his head.

"Very well, let us see to whom I may spread his glorious word." he said in a giddy voice, and began to make his way off the beach.

Morgeher snaps out from a wavering daydream as he notices the strange man dressed in a strange garb. He stares the stranger with a drilling gaze, then patiently lifts his weak old body upwards. Krima notices him from afar and rushes to help him, but stops at the sight of the stranger, fastening a stronger hold on the heavy branch he found lying on the sand.

Krima and Morgeher exchange glances, as if communicating with bare eyesight. Morgeher makes a barely noticeable wave with his head, and then both turn their attention at the stranger again. "Indeed, it seems we've been struck by an unfortunate accident..." Morgeher coughs out, and pauses as his breath gets heavier, as if having some sort of seizure, but after a while continues: "But we would be grateful of any... assistance you may be kind enough to offer us." Morgeher pauses again, then looks at Krima's heavy branch: "I'll need that, as it seems I can't walk well without any help...".

"We can go now," the old man says leaning on the support of the heavy branch, and with some effort makes a troublesome smile. "Yes, father..." the half-orc whispers and steps forward to take the lead in following the stranger.
