Howto Guide: Starting the Beta Client

The Updater.exe and the Mortal Online Laucher.exe and both give me this message. The only thing I havent tried yet it the sound bit and that is because I am using XP and cannot figure out how to change it?

Well I guess thats enough of that. Downloaded the game today, have the newest nvidia drivers for video card and mobo (onboard audio) dx is updated, dotnet updated, physx updated, changed the ini file from 4096 to 512, changed audio settings to dvd quality, set all the video on the lowest options, set updater, nowgame.exe, launcher all to xpsp2 compatibility, run as admin and...the nowgame.exe crashes while trying to create a char.

I get that this is open beta but goddamn, I've never had a beta that wouldnt at least let me in.

Is there no way to patch this game except via 'torrent'? I can't use those connections from this machine. Am I boned, essentially?

The error is the game crashes, a box pops up and says NowGame.exe has stopped responding. Click ok and it all goes away. The farthest I was able to make it was the screen where you start adding points to like str or dex.

Just downloaded the newest patch and now I cant even enter my username, as soon as I type one letter the NowGame.exe crashes. This time the faulting module is MSVCR90.dll.

I have uninstalled the game completely and am giving it one last try...why I am wasting hours re-downloading it I dont know, glutton for punishment maybe.

LOL like most I think it has actually become more of a challenge to get the game running than actually playing the game.

Perhaps this is the game and SV has invented a new genera of gaming, where the ultimate goal is to become a PC wizard.

Well I dont know what to say now, uninstalled, reboot, reinstalled, redownloaded patches, rebooted between each patch and...it let me in, no crash whatsoever. I didnt even edit any of the ini files or change sound whatever.

Anywho, like so many before me, Welcome to beta. Keep in mind a vast majority of the people who bought this game are already in. Its just a few that are having problems. And out of that few, most are just stupid errors such as not having DirectX installed, or trying to run the game on a P4 with 1gig of memory. So far I say SV is doing okay as far as betas go. I've been in worse. -_-

I am trying to reinstall since the dreaded nowgame error plagued me for the last 2 days with no end in sight. Any ideas how to either skip this part of the installation or .... something else :-)

I've watched ur video up to the point where you say MO wont work with SP3. Problem is that Im running under Windows XP with SP3 and there is no way to change it to SP2 in the compatibility tab.

I have my DirectX, PhysX and Netframe updated but when I start the game, the mouse cursor is under intense lag and the login screen is shown with black dots everywhere.

I presume this might be caused by service pack 3...

Right mate i have ATI card i have done all those steps you have shown and i watched ur vid, the error i get is "Nowgame.exe has stopped working" i have read through the posts to see if my questions has already been answerd, and i think it has but i dont have nowgamebackup anywhere in the folders.. i do have skype and MSN but i have tried running with them both completely turned off.. It is not being blocked by my firewall, and my video/sound drivers are up to date. Except for PhysX my computer does not let me install that :P

Any clue whats going on?

However, I'm having some problems with the initial install of the 90 meg installer.

From downloading beta from:

http://www.mortalonline.com/downloadbeta

When hitting run on the exe after a few seconds I get this error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Vault\Mortal Online\BIN dxnt.cab

Any ideas guys?

I believe, that you need directX. Haven't seen that error yet.

Install PhysX than try to install the game and it should skip it.

Have done all those steps it still crashes instantly.

These are not isolated instances by people with low-end systems, hundreds of people having the nowgame.exe crash is a widespread bug. I have 4gb RAM, nvidia 7950gt, dual core duo 2.4ghz 6600s.

I get the "NowGame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" as well. The only solution I found was changing nowengine.ini fix, which doesn't work for me. I changed all the values in the TEXTUREGROUP section.

My video driver are the newest. The Physics installer doesn't install because I already have the newest version it says. The .Netframework Update only will repair or uninstall, which would suggest I have the newest version. I repaired away to see if it would do anything. I installed the newest DirectX without problems.

I download the client using the utorrent workaround, and all the files installed fine. Only problem is I can't get past this nowgame.exe error.

When I go to uninstall the MO client it saysl "this installation can only be uninstalled on 64-bit Windows" lol.

Any help would be great.

Helped a lot and the patcher seems to be actually working this time. Thanks a lot!

(My issue was that AVG was running when I tried to run the patcher, but as soon as I closed it via Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the patcher worked fine.)

Brono i have a question. I cant seem to change the graphic settings in the game. i have downloaded the stuff u told me to and still it doesnt work. I lag pretty badly because i cant change the settings. please help if you can but probably not. =[

It's doesn't install a graphics driver, but a CPU middle ware for in-game physics (software render), similar to Havok.


Secondly, it doesn't matter what OS or video card you have, you must have the LATEST directX drivers installed. How you people not have automatic updates on and not have the latest drivers is just beyond me (bad personal PC habits or something), but the latest DX driver came out in MARCH. So if you haven't updated, then do so as the OP has already explained.

I tried downloading the newest version from nvidia.com and I also tried uninstalling the physx drivers and then using the installer. Still hangs during install

Yeah I've tried having physx installed and uninstalled on my system but it doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is some remains of an old install might be there still, in regedit somewhere perhabs.

Close it and start the patcher again. Should solve it.

Hi, i have a problem starting the game too, and im getting a error when the patcher with all the news pops up:

Scan error!
Could not find a part of the \path where mortal online is installed\Updater\updater\mortalonline\UnrealEngin e3\Binaries\Win32\NowGame.exe

Just wondering is there any fix for that, i have downloaded the latest drivers.

Ok, so I have an Asus G50 notebook, shouldn't be a problem running this game. I have downloaded all of the most recent drivers, clicked the links, installed everything I can. When launching the game now, I get the now game error that so many are getting, but I copied the actual lines:

Ok, i found a solution to my problem, it turns out the folder isn't created durring the instalation for some reason, so you have to manualy create it so it looks like this:

\path where mortal online is installed\Updater\updater\mortalonline\UnrealEngin e3\Binaries\Win32\NowGame.exe

And copy the NowGame.exe from whereever it is to that folder, now ive gotten to the patching, wish me luck

i don't get where you said \path where mortal online is installed. I have the same error that you have, did it work? i tried to download the directx end user runtime web installer, its a broken link for me, can anyone just put up a new one or what? i've been waiting for a long time
