Default Howto Guide: Starting the Beta Client

WATCH THIS VIDEO!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO_4CM3-VPI
Updated Video!:2/1/10

READ ME!
It doesn't mater if you're running ATI or Nvidia you still may need the PhysX drivers. It will not mess your system up if you're running an ATI card. Try these steps before posting asking how to fix it. Guaranteed one of these will fix your problem.

I made a quick video on how to execute the Beta Client. Give this a shot if you're having problems with the client. This method of execution is aimed for those users on Vista 64bit or Win7. If this little how to doesn't work, try some of the following:

Step 1.)
Download the drivers for your GPU(Graphics card).

Nvidia Chipset Drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

ATI Chipset Drivers
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Step 2.)
So, if the drivers don't work try downloading the latest version of DirectX.

DirectX Download
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Step 3.)
So if none of those work then it maybe your PhysX engine. This won't mess up anything on your computer its just an engine that MO needs to run.

PhysX Download (updated 2/11/10)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.1112.html

.Netframework Update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
(FOR XP USE)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-81da479ab0d7

Kootenay posted something of interest for the current revision of beta. Quoted his post here: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/3...-19-guide.html

Step 1

Remove the old client files you have on your computer

Step 2

Go to here
http://www.mortalonline.com/downloadbeta
click on the download link

You can also download from atomic gamer (around ~200kb/s)
http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/833...t-v-0-12-16-18

NOTE: You will be downloading v 0.12.16.18B, which is not a rar file.

Step 3

Point the download (torrent) at the folder you want to have the files in

Example:

C:\MObeta\

It will start to download the v 0.12.16.18 client, along with the new patcher in total 4.9 Gigs.

Step 4

Wait for it to finish downloading, once done copy and paste it into another place so you have 2 versions of it.

Step 5

Go into the files, find the Updater.exe, it should be in the file folder you pasted.

Step 6

It should start a 450mb download, and now wait for it to finish downloading

Step 7

You will go past the 450mb mark and you will get a error that there was a error with the download, exit out of the updater, and restart it

Step 8

The updater will not work again, you will get it non responsive, there should be a error that says it stop working. Close it and restart the updater again.

Step 9

The patcher will start to dl a small update (size unknown). After it downloads there will be a install screen that pops up, hit next to start installing. You might get a can not rename error when installing.

Step 10

You will get a error that you can't rename a file, hit ok, and repeat step 10, till it stops giving you that error and you move on to the next step

Step 11

You will start to download a 10mb patch

Step 12

You will get another error, restart the patcher

Step 13

Hit play

IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE PATCHING PROCESS, YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THE LAUNCHER MULTIPLE TIMES!
Also!
Found that if you have any errors related to kernelbase.dll it is due to the patcher bugging out. You will have to uninstall and reinstall MO. My suggest is to keep the patch files, (Located *:\Programs(x86)\Star Vault\Mortal Online\mortalonline\) to avoid having to download them again. If you need any help hit me up.

-Brono.
Use this thread for Beta Execution issues and I will try and help resolve them.

PS~ Also post Screenshots of you're errors. Makes it alot easier to help you.

Thanks, Brono, finally got it to work after doing ALL the steps you mentioned (some a couple of times, unsure what finally did the trick).

Your youtube video was a little fast for me to follow and hard to see (but then again, I'm a middle-aged man...) again, much appreciated!

I've tried every step at the top, and still no luck. Still stuck at ' cache corrupt , filre 1/24 ' . It's not downloaded to my C drive, and I made a folder called ' Mortal Online and used that as the extraction point for the Rar, i'll try downloading to C drive, maybe that will work.

edit - Okay guys who are having trouble getting past the ' cache corrupt 1/24 ' area follow these steps.
After changing your compatibility mode to windows xp service pack 2, and attempting to run mortal onine. When it tells you to pick a writable directory, pick the folder that says Mortalcache_beta , extend that folder and it will show an identical folder Mortalcache_beta , that is the one you will want to select to get the game to the startup screen. Worked for me, hopefully it works for you to.

Default Got it to work ^^

Okay got it to work finally!

Do all of the main steps described above

This is what did it for me, I installed Netframe work 3.5 for vista x64, and then installed nVidia PhysX (even though I have an ATi card), then RESTARTED. This seemed to work for me maybe it will work for others with ATi cards and Vista x64.

Cheers

Try getting the lastest version of Direct X and updating your Drivers. Does your Graphics card support Direct X 10?

I only think this because of d3dx10_41.dll

So it could be something to do with Your graphics drivers or the version of DXinstalled.
Hope this helps

What are you using to execute the program? MortalOnline.exe or nowgame.exe?

Nvidia BOUGHT Agea years back... the "Nvidia trick" isn't a trick, it's a REQUIREMENT to run the game. Just because you have an ATI card, doesn't mean you can skip this step.

It's doesn't install a graphics driver, but a CPU middle ware for in-game physics (software render), similar to Havok.

Secondly, it doesn't matter what OS or video card you have, you must have the LATEST directX drivers installed. How you people not have automatic updates on and not have the latest drivers is just beyond me (bad personal PC habits or something), but the latest DX driver came out in MARCH. So if you haven't updated, then do so as the OP has already explained.

Yes...install them anyways...the agei physx driver...for a laymans explanation...isnt a video card driver...it's more akin to directX.

How do I post an image so it shows up large enough to read? Posting it as an attachment shrinks it down really small, and the error window is unreadable.

Ok, so I feel confident I have gone though this forum looking for an answer with no avail.
So far, I have:
Followed the video exactly
Updated gfx card, directx, and physx
made the -seekfreeloading shortcut
Ran everything as administrator
Set it all up for Windows XP SP2 compatibility

I am running Vista 64-bit with GTX 260 card.

Here it is:

Hi, I followed your video brono, but when I try to change compatibility mode, the only 4 options I have are:

Windows 95
Windows 98 / Windows Me
Windows NT 4.0 (Serveice Pack 5)
Windows 2000

I am using Windows XP, and don't know what to do.
