Update your .net framwork
You get this from Here Do this for both Vista and XP. Update your graphics drivers. Get this from your cards website...nvidia.com or ati.com Update DirectX You get this from Here. or here, non-MS site Update the ageia Physx driver. You get this from Here Do this even if you have an ATI card...this is NOT Nvidia specific. For Vista users, I recommend extracting to the programsX86/Mortal folder. From monitoring the forums and IRC since last night, these three things seem to be the biggest issues for all users. Fair warning....these links are from the net and I make no claims to their security.

Do exactly what he has listed and you should in theory be able to access the beta using Vista 64.
My final hurdle was the .Net framework that is actually part of Windows Update. Making sure your Vista 64 is fully patched should go along way in addressing your issues. Performing these steps actually addressed the particular error message I was getting. "C:\Program Files (x86)\MOBeta\MortalCache_Beta\Updater\MortalOnline \UnrealEngine 3\Binaries\Win32>NowGame.exe -seekfreeloading The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is in correct. Please see the application event log for more detail" Ziegler thanks a bunch for the feedback in IRC and for posting this, much appreciated. |

Correct, it shouldnt make a difference. I put it in there simply because it is an X86 based program. No problem Severn. I may be a old troll, but helping in beta is a hobby for me.

What's this Programsx86? I extract the MO cache to there? Or something? Im noob-ish with computers to an extent.
If you're having trouble, try this though; Go to Control Panel, then Sound, then disable everything in the "PlayBack" tab, just right click and disable, for me, it was speakers and the SDEIF Interface (Your guess is as good as mine), and then you can launch the .bat with no errors. Im going to try rolling back my sound-card drivers at some point, maybe worth a shot. For the record; I tried everything else, in the list, and doing them in crazy orders that were suggested by others, with no avail, the sound was the only thing that did it, oddly enough, I can still get sound, when it's disabled, but not from the MO Client, aparently, when it comes to Monday, and I can log in, I should have to just go to the options in-game, and push my master volume up to 100%?

What did mean about that you got sound from the game even if you Disabled the "speakers" from the "playback" tab ? You can't get sound after that....

The sound issue....
turn your sampling rate down to 48 k instead of 96k. Known issue, that is the current work around for it. In Vista only...there is a prgram files and a programfiles(x86) The (x86) folder is where Vista installs legacy(older) programs. It isnt required, nor should it matter, I put it there because it makes the most sense for me, since it doesnt like working with Vista correctly. (heard that the play button issue was resolved with last nights patch though.)

That is where 32 bit programs, on a 64 bit operating system install too... has nothing to do with legacy, or old programs. |

That's probably true, now that I think about it. (x86) being the 32 bit systems. Thanks for pointing it out.

I could really use some help with this. My problem is that I've downloaded the latest client: MortalCache07910 and when I unzip it I've only got the updater folder with all it's components and the Mortal Beta Launcher.exe file. I've set that to run through windows xp service pack 2 (because I'm on windows 7 64bit) and I've also set it to run as administrator. When i run it, I get the following:
A black rectangular box with the text: Mortal Online Launcher checking for updates... revision: ok scan: complete download: complete and a button "QUIT" This is all. Nothing else happens. I want to play the game that I just subscribed for and still nothing is working. Please help me out. Am I missing files? I just re-downloaded the torrent and still same thing. I've let this launcher check for updates all night and nothing changed. My .Net Framework 3.5, direct x 10, nvidia drivers, phyx drivers are all up to date. My sound is running at the 48k. I can't even get to the login screen. Please help. |

Step 1: Unzip the latest MortalCache07910.rar file to your "C:\" directory and put it in the folder "C:\MOBeta\". Observation 1: Once the unzipping is done go to your directory "C:\MOBeta\" and notice that there is one folder called "Updater" and a file called "Mortal Beta Launcher.exe". Step 3: Right click "Mortal Beta Launcher.exe" and if using the windows 7 operating system select properties. Click the "Compatibility" tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Under Privilege Level check "Run this program as an administrator". Click "Apply". Click "OK". Step 4: Double Click the "Mortal Beta Launcher.exe". Observation 2: If the client does not boot and you are left with a screen that looks like this ![]() Then you need to proceed to the Step 5. Step 5: Your client isn't loading and you see no play button. Now you need to head to this folder, which is going to be hidden, so make sure you "Show All Files" under folder options in your control panel. Once that is done proceed to this folder: "C:\Users\yourUserName\AppData\Roaming\StarVault\M ortalOnline\check\launcher\". Please note that this folder is different for everyone due to the different PC Usernames. Once you've navigated to this folder you will see inside this folder that there is a file called "Mortal Beta Launcher.exe". Right click and select "Send to -> Desktop (Create Shortcut". Step 6: You will now have this beta launcher shortcut on your desktop. Right click it and "Run as Administrator." The program will now run properly and prompt you to find the proper client. Set the directory to "C:\MOBeta\" and select OK. (You will have to repeat this step every time to play the game but the shortcut will be on your desktop so it is made easy.) Step 7: The client will now ask you for a username/password, type this in and proceed playing the game as normal. Your client will now appear like this: ![]() Enjoy. I hope this helps. -LenexRaay |
