I have seen some mention of combat logs along with people wanting names to be floating above head on mouse over ect... well having a combat log is one easy way to know who some people are in some situations, so i suggest the only combat log in this game should be the one in your head ( memory )
as these logs in game spoil the fun for those who might sneak up to you hit you a fatal blow killing you... I say no to combat logs but lets see what every one else thinks. i would also like to mention Mods ( addons )-( WoW ) Somthing else i strongly disagree with as they can completly ruin the game. Discuss people... |

I also like working with statistics, so eliminating the "Combat Log" is something I'm personally against. If I recall correctly, the Devs stated that Stealth would be a balance (as best they could manage) between Player skill (using shadows/background) and the typical "Fade" of common Stealth in games. If the stealthed character generates no messages during stealth, then a Combat Log would be unaffected and could remain without giving warning. However, there is real world skill in moving while trying to remain hidden in the wilderness. Such as, not stepping on a dried twig. So, if something went wrong with the sneaky person's stealth, people nearby may get a chat log message, "A twig snaps nearby."

Scars only go so far in a game world.

Combat logs are fine if there's no name attached to it.
OR Combat logs are fine if there's no name attached to it if you can not see/identify the person attacking you. So, if you're attacked from the back you just see "you are backstabbed for X damage" rather than "NEMO backstabs you for X damage" |

Do people pay that much attention to the combat log? I only refer to it if I get one shotted or 2 shotted but besides that I don't even know that it is there. I think we could survive without them but I guess they are kind of useful to some.

I usually find a proggy to parse the data from it... So I can look at the statistics later...

As long as it stays at the GUI, and does not change anything except for the visuals I like GUI customization.

I would love a system where the log files are not displayed in game (for reasons outlined in the OP) but instead are saved to a game/logs folder and can only be reviewed after the game is closed. So you can test different set-ups and review your damage, etc, afterwards.
