i was just wondering that if you creat a religon do u get to decide what your god looks like.(A period for u KroqGar) I now it would be difficult to make your god if it's a five headed demon wolf with a snakes tail that is always breathing fire. But it would work if you just had a human avatar that you could dress up. Because if i make a religon i this game i dont want to just have to picture my god in my head and then every one else might have a different picture in there head. so what do you guys think.

I think it really only needs to be as simple as this. Especially if you could incorporate that drawing in-game, that would be neat, but anymore complicated than that and I think it starts becoming over the top. I mean, look at religions of old, all they had to go by was drawings and descriptions, and that worked out just fine.

I hope we can design our own gods. I would make one that is a mass of light. He would take light from around him making everything else darker...thats how bright he is. He would be amazing and would instantly scorch non believers who are around him. I know its not very original but hey I kinda like it. I guess its really up to the on who starts the religion/cult.

Idea:
Make a god that you kill on the lower lvl and then when you dies something (soul or something) escape from his body and go away and when you reach the high-end game (could be a raid) you have to kill him, and hes double size, all full of blood a big man with a fire sword and chains burining or something like that, he could also be a necromancer that revives the dead and each time someone of your companions (people in the party) dies he take their body and make a strong add.. and open idea i have after lunch :P |

Pfft, she's just noticing how "stirring" his performance is.
Anyway, the issue of manifest gods is an interesting one. Oddly, so much of the pseudo-medieval European fantasy takes takes the idea of greek or roman pantheons. However, even in these pantheons, gods didn't have a fixed shape. They may have a variety of symbols, forms, and everything running across a theme. I get the sense that greek/roman believers thought gods existed across several spheres, their anthropomorphized soap opera on one level, while the natural manifestations of their power on another. simultaneously they'd also send some sort of avatar into the mortal realm to directly affect outcomes. Then the other religious tradition I'm somewhat familiar with is of course Christianity, which is a little more true to the pseudo-medieval european setting. The god of christianity never takes form, though hints that humans look something like him. Manifested in several instances, such as a burning bush, but also as a human. Different cultures have shaped their perceived appearance of Jesus so that in the southern Baptist churches I've gone to have a distinctly aryan looking model for their jewish carpenter from the middle east. What I'm saying is that Gods tend not to be pictured as having a definite form, but capable of having many. If the devs figure on creating a ready-made pantheon, the gods' representations can have many variations. A favorite example of mine is the european vs asian vs african representations of gods in Guild Wars. Same gods, just interpreted through a cultural lens. It could be quite possible that any one god that is shared by different races may have at least as many interpretations. Finally, drawing our own gods may be bad. Because I know at some point some jackass is going to draw a scrotum, a swastika, or something and I'll have to explain to my wife why I pay money to spend time with these people. |

I'd like to just have a description of the god and the ability to draw and post a picture, however this works in well with... (Beats his dead horse) A system that allows you to write books. Imagine writing a bible for your religion or even pamphlets and passing them around to players. And being able to change your religion midgame would also be nice.
