Server full or Just down...

Ok, So there has been some speculation about not being able to log in.

1. The server is full because of the 800 person cap.
2. The server is just down.

I'm one of the people assuming the server is full, However everyone in block A that I have talked to has not been able to play and i have not seen any posts other than people wondering why they cant log in. So im starting to wonder if the server is full or is just not working since the new client.

Also, right when my download finished I was able to log in once there was a lot of people and it was laggy as hell, two minutes later the server crashed...And no luck since then.

So in my opinion the best way to answer the question that is on everyones mind is if anyone has been able to log in and play for a steady amount of time, post here saying so.

If you assume everyone on average plays for 4 hours each time they log in then 200 people should log of per hour (3 per minute) so it shouldn't be hard to get in with a little patience, so I guess it's down.

There are some more problems that I would not expect to be resolved until SV comes back from their weekend on Monday.

I think that means the server is down, if it was just full, you would be able to get to the character screen and see all your awesomely empty slots.

Thats about the same for me now...this morning it was taking me to the character screen and i was trying about every five minutes with no luck.

Got to the character screen, and eventually my characters that I made popped up in the slots. I logged in, was in running around for about an hour.

Server is definitely down atm.

ok if it s down normaly we cant logg but we can do it and try to creat but we cant finish so i think they have a cap of 800 ppl

So your saying that you got to the character screen you characters were NOT there and then later then popped up?

If this is true then i guess its in a queue system. which is great news.

Yep, I don't know if it works all the time though, a few times it would pop up, I would log in, and it would stay at loading screen.

Ive been trying all different hours of the night and day to log in since i got the client, but have yet to even make a character so far since the server has either been full or down.

On a side note... just curious why there are soft caps for the server anyway? Ive been all over the forums and so far i havent seen an answer to "why" they are enforcing lower caps than their original estimate of 2k+. Does anyone have confirmation of as to why they dont have a cap of 2k like they originally planned?

Easier to go through a log of 100-800 people when a server crashes to find the fix then a log of 1500+ people.

That and when there is a known problem that is being dealt with that causes lag for the server, more than so many people overloads it and makes it crash too quickly- making the devs have to restart it every couple minutes making it so people can't explore very far past spawning locations isn't very productive.

I am not sure what the devs' philosophy is here. Are we just supposed to keep trying to log in (to test what I am not sure) or are we just supposed to forget about beta testing for a few weeks and come back later? If so, how long do you think it will take before we have a functioning beta?

I'm just gonna keep trying at least once a day. For now we can only wait until the guys at SV come back from their much needed break.

I don't understand how grep commands make going through 1500 different actions / locations as fast as going through 100 different actions / locations to pinpoint the cause of a server crash, although I'm pretty sure the reason the cap was in place was my second guess anyways.

@Vanth : My money is on the servers being up Monday - Wednesday with 800 cap or perhaps higher. There is no point trying to login when the server is confirmed down though.

Well I got on the first morning after the client was put up for 10mins since then I could not get onto the server, now I have the updated client which I have just downloaded and keeps saying Failed to Log in will just wait.

I dont see why some people though on the forum seem to be getting mad about the game and saying stuff like oh I am quitting just give the devs bit of time to sort out few of the issues and the game will only get much better as the weeks roll on.

The devs did say tho the first part would not be that much fun and people do need to start reading the threads regarding the beta stages before they decide to get in.

Im in block A..could be in block Z...the 5 times i managed to enter the game i dc 2 minutes later..so ill just wait a few weeks so the cap goes to a few 10k users...i have more things to do then stay on my laptop pressing connect and not connecting ever...its my first beta..so i hope its normal in all betas nobody but a few can enter the server...

If the server cant handle 2k people why alwo 2k people to be in beta?

They should allow 30 people, then 100 then 200...and should be in alfa no?
