what i would love to see are a variaty of half-<put a race here> and humans. so there would be no seperate races but one race (humans) and some crossbreeds (human+<other race>) who are living among humans.
that would go great with some sort of low-magic setting. humans dominate the land our characters live in, they dont like other races/cultures and so they accept but dont like the crossbreeds who decided to live among them. humans are not able to use magic, and so magic is also not willingly seen in that sociaty. there are planty of different races in that world whos lands border human land, but as a player you dont often have a chance to interact with them. most of the time every race preferes to keep to themselves. so humans have to cope with other races, wether they like it or not. its all not forbidden by law, crossbreeds are no outcasts, but humans are proud of being human and magic is seen as something dark and therefor evil. crossbreeds would not ony have advantages they picked up from their non-human parents (like the ability to do some magic), they also have quite a few disadvantages. so counting all in, as a player you are better of choosing a human as your character race. well, thats just a basic setting idea, that needs more working on at that point, but i would like to hear your opinion on that bevore i go on spending hours thinking that whole setting thoroughly through. |

The only race the devs have revealed so far is the half orc, their lore is a little different than yours, since these orc are shunned from both races of their origin. I like this conflict. Maybe Half elves wouldn't be considered outcast's tho... hmm.. i cant really think of another race to interbreed with humans, maybe some halflings or human/demon mixes, or even human/vampire breed, they don't crave blood but they are immortal and are immune to vampire bites and strong against dark magic and can use lesser demons like gargoyles, imps and werewolves as their personal minions maybe. They could be able to charm the opposite sex and should be able to use certain schools of magic, but not fire. hmm..fun to think about

I like this idea. It steps away from the heavy fantasy template but still has a bit of fantasy on top of basic mankind.
Half orcs are good, with the extra strength they will be strong companions to have but when you choose to play one you find getting over the reputation issues is a challenge. Humans with some demonic bloodline allows you to once again have a slightly stronger human with some major challenges towards reputation within the cities. These could be stronger in magics. Whether it be magical destruction or magically improving their martial skills. If its going to be mainly a Human based world then lets see some variety in the humans too. These differences will be much slighter then those with the mixed breeds but it will allow for some more customization. When making an open world, customization should have more focus. Besides, a bit of racial pride is not a bad thing. Be proud of the region you have arisen from and be able to see some differences between those who are from the lands you come from and those from other lands. |
