Maybe I'm misinformed, but I doubt that this game has a chance in hell to release by summer 2009. Darkfall has been in development for 8/9 years and we don't even know when development was started for this game. I even doubt that Darkfall will release this year. A sandbox mmorpg like this can't be a quick and dirty beta. They have too much testing to do with such a small window of time before an expected release. I don't even need to list the things that need to be tested, because we know them all by now. We just don't know if this game has done any of them.
With all that in mind I'm still excited for a chance to play this type of game. I think Darkfall at this point has all the facts in line to make a amazing pvp sandbox game with good art. Mortal has a beautiful teaser(I mean beautiful). I'm just curious as to why a game company would put such a pretentious release date public. Maybe to get a fan base, but I'm not sure why you would want to piss off your fan base when you release late? maybe because fan's don't really care if you piss them off, eventually the fan will pay for the game if it's turns out any good and they followed it a few years? (I know I did, heh) I really hope they take a good look at Shadowbane and Darkfall(if it ever comes out) and learn from their mistakes. The last thing I want to see in this type of game is stacking (where clans stand on top of each other because it's the most effective method to overwhelm a clan). I also hate running through people in UT... I wonder what you all think. 2009 release? on your wish list? not happening? of course? |

because they think they can make it. why can they not? they've been coding it since 2005, they were planning it out since 2002, and they're using a pre-built engine and middleware. they're making us an awesome game and until they go back on something they say, i believe they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I can wait. These days an MMO launch is as important and similar to a movie's launch. First impressions are everything and set the tone for the success.
If it's a really bumpy ride, the game is going to have trouble keeping its servers full after the 1 month free trial expires. Word of mouth spreads faster than a California wildfire and if it happens to be negative, the game is crippled. Making up for lost ground is not a postion MO wants to be with the competetive nature of this market. |

Im a realist and do not think they will make it until summer 2009, if we are very lucky its going to be 2010... ^^
... and if we are unlucky, well they are going to run into some kind of trouble, run out of money and then we will get an unready release without any of the great promised features, similar to all the other crappy mmo out there, or worse: they wont finish it at all... but hey! i seriously think they do have what it takes to create an innovative mmo!! i think they have a great deal of bad examples out there, they are willing to learn from mistakes others have made... and most important: they have great new ideas, have collected their own experiences in that genre, they know what they are doing and have/will put alot of thought into the concept of this game! so i do really pray, i pray that they wont run out of money, i pray that they dont get into some kind of time-pressure, because if they dont, we are waiting for THE greatest MMO to come, and i dont know about you, but if i have to wait until 2012 for that, never mind, i will wait! i just pray that they dont run into some kind of trouble and manage to fully create their vision of MO. Well I guess people don't realise that using a pre-built engine can cut alot of time off a games development. Which means that this game could possibly come out in the summer of 2009, but I woulnd't be suprised if it got delayed.

The pre-built engine helps... a lot. And if it will have all the features of the U3 engine... then it will be amazing. But I can see why there is doubt in the release date... a lot can go wrong in so little time. BUT! Don't think they are not testing the game right now too. They announced that the beta is coming soon (^_^ hopefully most of us will get in :>) thus meaning that the alpha stage is finished.

I think we'll all have a better indication whether or not Mortal Online is on track for the current release date after the Leipzig gaming convention.

I'll quote you but it could quite possibly happen. I mean they already have enough to showcase st Leipzig plus beta will be pretty close. They also never said when next summer, so it could be June or it could be September.

I think the worst thing that can happen to a MMO developer is that the people who fund them force them to rush out their product. This usually means the consumers will get a half finished product.
So as long as MO doesn't run out of money and the investors don't start breathing down their necks, I think we should be ok. Hopefully the game will be released when the developers feel it's ready and not because of any other reason. Then and only then can we hope for a successful release.

I'm not fussed if it doesn't release in summer (whenever that is in the us/europe) of 2009, as long as it's released with the majority of the content and isn't a complete bug fest *cough* looking at you Age of Conan.
I think most gamers are used to delays when it comes to mmo's, it would be wishful thinking to assume that it would come out on time. |

I am hoping the best and looking forward to a release in Summer 2009. Although, I hope that starvault doesn`t make the same mistake as Funcom did.
They released too early. Now the community is torn apart because all the features that have been promised are not implemented yet. Not even after 2 months after the release and lots of patches. However, as much as I know Starvault seems to call themselves an independant developer and so the don`t seem to be rushed into a release date by the publisher. So they should be able to set a release date themselves and not being forced to release because the publisher won`t wait any longer. correct me if I am wrong. greetings, Dexter

I am quite excited to see a first person mmo. I only have two issues. 1: if this is a lot like the TES series, than it's gona be incredibly unbalanced with it's skills and classes. 2: this is just a personal issue but I'm gettin' a little sick of seeing the unreal engine being used in every new game anymore. I give credit to the engine; it's very good. I just wish that someone would take the time and see if they could beat the current engine.

I could see CB starting up in Mid to Late summer in 09. Keep in mind, we don't really know how much they have developed. There are other reasons for not releasing gobs of information other than just becuse they haven't finished it yet(such as not wanting other games in devlopment trying to take it and beat them to the punch). For full release, I say we are looking at another 4-8 months beyond that, in my experince with big games.

If they are really holding out on us on a lot of the stuff they are already done with, and then we get to see this information soon, then yes I think they can make it. But currently according to the site all we know is that you can be a Half-Orc and it's going to be a Sandbox MMO.

All MMO first release date is an optimistic date, this date make player look for MMO, but all we know isn't a real date. You can add 1 Year on the first release date annoncement for know the real release date.
