i like having a dead body on the ground that eventually turns into a skeleton, which will eventually disappear. would be a little more realistic than, say, a gravestone appearing on the ground, and would be much better than bodies that don't decay (a la WoW). although i think a skull/head stuck on a pike would be pretty cool too, and would probably take up less resources than a body.
also, that reminded me of those tombstone pizza commercials.

If there is going to be full (or even partial) loot, I think a corpse on the ground (that eventually decays) would be better suited and more "realistic".
Where are you meant to get someone's loot (full body armor, weapon, shield, some gold, magic regeants, etc) from a gravestone or skull on a stick? That would make no sense - to me, at least. |

Dead body sounds best to me.
The realism of looting and such isn't so much the point, but using a tombstone or similar just seems to..."WoW"-ish. I can't quite place my finger on the reason why i dislike it other than that. Doesn't really bother me either way though. Having a choke point littered with hundreds of corpses on the other hand could be a gpu-melter though. |

After the bodies disappeared. Wait.....I'm thinking about age of conan. Disregard the WoW reference. Replace it with an AoC one. Which leads me to ask, once the bodies decompose, what would be left behind to show a player died there? There are implications, negative to both the player and other travellers if there's no indication as to a place where a player can reappear out of thin air. I say this of course under the impression that players will be able to return to their bodies in ghost form to reclaim it. |

no, you have to run around in the "etherworld" for a while until you find a "channeler." if you've ever played UO, basically, you probably have to run around as a ghost and find a healer, so you'd rez at the healer not your body. but the "etherworld" is still very mysterious and all, so don't quote me on that, that was just my interpretation of it.

We ain't talking about new Worms rite? I don't want my char to blow up and leave tombstone on his spot. I wan't my body rotting there with everything I was wearing untill someone picks it up. Would be nice if we could see flies gathering around and maybe even some carrion-eaters come by to have a bite or two.

I want a dead body with full rotting visual effects, and maggots... lots of maggots... can't have dead bodies without maggots, you know
Really, I'm picturing a full blown battlefield with lots of corpses around, maggot infested and flies circling around them. Disgusting, but so very realistic and immersive. I wouldn't mind bodies turning to skeletons and then fading away eventually, probably a good idea, but I would like it to be slower than just a few minutes. Maybe something like 30 minutes for full decompose.

As long as the skeletons stay the most amount of time, then it will be ok; if the fully equiped charachter stays on the ground for too long; and there has been a large battle, you will really lag yourself up...

I'm just concerned about the object count limit that one of the devs mentioned. Like Shinzon said, if you have a dozen completely armed and armored dead guys laying there, it'll apparently put a sizeable load on the server. Because of that, I think just a stylized representation of the dead person should be on the ground, with a general feeling as to what his armor looked like for looks, and a full version that pops up when you go to loot.

i think who ever kills u should get the option of what 2 do with your body:
leave it alone put your head on a pike put u on a cross and so on. so when every u come back 2 your body to c if they left your loot u will have a surpice each time. (any think but tombstones) |

I'd want a Carebear or a Hello Kitty sign, too bad it's copyrighted stuff.

either skeletal corpse or skull on a stick...hell, how about a headless skeleton with a severed bleach white skull next to it impaled on a stick.

Gee, imagine that, the most resource intensive solution is a fan favorite!
Sad how it usually works out that way, I wish some one would develop an engine that was so goddamned streamlined and efficient we could have everything and run it on a 386.

No matter how streamlined an engine is, there are some things that inheritly just take up more processing time, there is nothing you can do about it, but throw more processing power at the problem...
