Default What about a newspaper system?

As we all may know, it's pretty difficult to get known in an MMO.
Well, if you do a firstkill or kill the uber-boss 23048713208928 times you maybe get some glory, splendour, because of posts in forums or the good or bad reputation of your guild (which is in every case e very large guild).

So... What about weaponsmiths, solo-players, explorers, duel fighters, politicians, small guilds, architects and whatever the hell will the folk of Mortal Online?

I think it would be a great thing - from the sight of a roleplayer - to have newsteam ingame.
They could use a dev protocol on which every great deed (declared by the devs) is listed, so the newsteam could look into it and perhaps write a little newspaper once a week.
The newspaper team job would be something like crafting. With enough money you pay news agent (which would be the tool) and could write little articles. The tool could be purchased with a certain amount of money or there would simply be limited news team appointments.
After a paper is written, it could be sent all over the world (ingame) per postal service.

I think it would be a great thing, 'cause you'll read much about the developing world and you'll know what's going on...

It might feel a bit out of place in the brutal and primitive setting of Mortal...

But I'm just guessing at the feel of the game from the teaser movie, maybe there's room for printing presses and syndicated newspapers in there somewhere.

Personally I'd prefer if this sort of thing was handled through a website though. That way I could check it from work

I think it would be nice to have some sort of news system for every server on the local guild doings and events. Maybe you could have the information posted online (as suggested by Fortinbras above) and also have the headlines listed on the loading screen so people can browse the headlines and at least get familiar to the names of the different major guilds on a server and who likes/hates who.

i.e.

"Attack Pandas raid Butt Pirate's keep - Get more than they ask for"

"Aegis Imperium holds annual drinking and dueling event - Debauchery expected"

It's an ok suggestion, imo, a newspaper? No, I don't think it would fit with what MO is... However, maybe bulletin boards placed in the marketplace that people can use to advertise and whatnot, that would fit in with the setting, other than that, I'm indifferent to the suggestion, not for it, but not against it, just one of those things.

You might want to take a look at this existing thread called In-game Bulletin which discusses a lot of your ideas.

Even in ancient times they had forms of getting news out to other empires, I see what the OP means and it really doesent seem something that would be that drastic or complicated to incorporate, its just how far do you want to go with it?

Thats probably the best solution, though a dynamic inventory sized newspaper wouldn't be too bad of an idea; where each user pays a certain amoung of "Gold" to get their add in the newspaper, which gets issued on the next day.

Essentialy a delyaed ingame message board that gets whiped every 24 hours...

Add a reputation system, where the authors of good articles get reputation from the readers (Much like in the forums) and as a result, the cost for them to publish drops dramaticaly, possibly with some other perks. On the other hand if the user spams the newspaper too much, they reputation goes down from other users and their cost to post anything starts to climb so high that they wont be able to afford to spam.

This way any "Spam" will quickly get filtered out as would gold farmers. Also having multiple sections in the news paper could also further organized a system in which the players manage themselves. Add a "Commerce" section, and all of a sudden there is no need to sit and spam the chat with "Selling +1 FE, with +2 FE, CHEAP!"

Everything will be organized....

I think it would be a good idea, and it would help out people who would rather not quit and check the site/forums, because they would be able to get the news in-game.

Well you don't need to quit to view the website, there's always windowed mode (if that's an option) or alt+tabbing.

But I still think maybe you could post major headlines in-game during loading screens and have some of the not so major things on a website.
