Default guild spends 18 hours trying to kill boss in Final Fantasy 11

I thought this was kinda funny

http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/08/14...al-fantasy-xi/

Quote:
A guild in Final Fantasy XI spent 18 hours trying to kill a boss; the boss is still alive! The guild, Beyond the Limitation, did all the legwork, all the preparation in order to kill the boss Pandemonium Warden, considered the toughest boss in the game. Eighteen hours later, the guild gave up and cried just a little bit.
Why, exactly, did the guild give up?
People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people’s lives…. None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings
I guarantee that if I were a member of that guild, that would have been the last time I logged on. Eighteen hours to kill a boss, and still no dice?
Games are supposed to be fun, right?

Yeah, I heard about that on G4tv. I laughed when I heard that people were becoming physically ill and passing out from exhaustion. What I'm thinking is, "what wooses". I've played MMOs from sunrise to sunset (regrettably and when I was quite a bit younger and had no responsibilities). But I guess being in combat that long would get you a bit exhausted from button mashing.

Yeah I've gone on and done about 36 hours with of course some breaks for food and bio but they're lightweights

This is funny and sad at the same time. But I would like the idea of unkillable monster. Though it should be out of the raid dungeon and be a threat to the world. So, it should be a ongoing struggle rather than 18 hours spent in some instance trying to kill a mindless creature just for the loot of it...game designers are dumb! If only I had access to that much resource and money...with even half of that I could make something better imo.

i was going to flame, but i thought about it a minute and i actually think this could be interesting.

if you've ever played FFX, imagine a huge destructive creature like Sin. it basically becomes a part of their culture, since it effects everyone's life. their religion revolves around it, politics revolve around how to deal with it, and in the end, it brings their community closer together. it would be great, since everyone could band together to defeat it, as opposed to simply getting a 20-man group to hunt it down in a dungeon just to get teh ph4t lewtz.

i wouldn't call it "unkillable" since there should be some way to kill it. but it wouldn't be done in just a few hours. i imagine it would take months perhaps, as you would first need to discover how to kill it, and then once it's weakness is found, there should be some very rare resources/artifacts involved in the process. those who take part in the process wouldn't get any loot from it, but rather maybe they could get a title of some kind, and of course they would get the recognition of everyone in the world.

Interesting?

Seriously.. a 18 hour pvp raid would be intersting, raiding the same boss for 18 hours and doing the same exact thing for 18 hours, is a waste of life.

if you would have read my post clearly, you would have understood that i was saying raven's idea was interesting in which he described an ongoing battle with a boss that wasn't locked away in an instance.

what i described wouldn't be anything like "raiding" for 18 hours doing the same exact thing the whole time. when raven mentioned an ongoing battle, i imagined the bulk of time spent in defeating the monster would be studying its weaknesses, searching for the tools to kill it, and devising a strategy to defeat it. the actual time put into killing it i imagined would be rather short, provided you'd done the research and planning.

Because Shawk has such an amazing and fulfilling life he has the right to judge other people. Oh wait no I'm thinking of someone else who has accomplished something more than being a regular on forums.

lol, thx helio.

shawk, you're definitely entitled to your opinion (even if it's a poor one ), but it would be great if you could elaborate on why it's "lame." it was just an idea, so constructive criticism is appreciated (note: calling it lame without any justification is not constructive).

That type of idea of course. And imagine this what if a PC lead cult raised this demon because they are followers of this monster so they actually hunt down the people who are trying to kill it! There you go...I also integrated some meaningful PvP in it as well

Edit: and once its killed or banished, that's it. he wouldn't drop a loot for sharinfg it would be difficult but you could get rewards for it task by task or soemthng like that.

/clap, you got praise from Heliopios.. 1 of the guys fighting for my Mortal Online Forums most retarded poster award, grats. Where I judged a person in my statement is pretty much beyond me, good call Heliopios.

I'm judging an idea, an idea that overglorifies pve.. making it ala *"Lame"* to me, that's me, a person that apparently only accomplished regular forum posts in his life.. Not a person who has 5 houses and 3 cars and is not extremely succesfull in life at all.

Damn, you guys are extremely sensitive people.

i hope you aren't lumping me in with helio. he just seems a little troubled, maybe he gets bullied at school.

i wouldn't take what he said too personally. you seem to be, since you felt it necessary to list your accomplishments just to prove him wrong... yet we're the sensitive ones?

EDIT: wait, and why would anyone have 5 houses?

Oh no I'm sorry, but you should look up what judging is and check to see if you weren't. You were, so stop trying to be a smartass since you end up looking like a fuck-up.

Also it's your parents that have houses and cars, no where in the world do 'web designers' get the salary to afford such commodities. UNless you're designing a website for south american drug lords.

Hmm, just because you can't understand how to make a good amount of money in the world does not make it impossible and I looked up what, "judgeing is," and I was again, judging the idea, not the person in my first post.. What is it that makes you thin I was judging him and not his idea?

I'm 22 and own 5 houses, 3 rented out... yes, 2 were inhareted, and I went to school for web design and graphic design, I work in construction and house remodeling.. Better?

Anyways, would you guys like to buy my book on how to not be complete no life losers too or can you stick to the topic, which I remind you is how the idea was lame.. you seemed to have skipped what I said to clarify what I meant by lame in my last post.. Ill repeat it, the idea is good, for people who pve like they have no life, no job and no real goal in life other than to play video games.

As usual Heliopios you jump into a thread and comment on things that were not in the OPs post, define troll for me would you?

Troll (Noun): When Heliopios sees Shawk committing the usual faggotry he trudges into topics, this is what he becomes.

Also, my dad used to call you people who consider house remodeling a good career 'people who just ride the coattails of actual framers (he summarized them as 'cocksuckers' in a human conversation)', he was a framer and considers that entire line of jobs a joke, as do I. 'Hey look I can put an addition (usually if not always a garage or bathroom) to a house and get paid 30,000 dollars for it, I must be a goddamn genius!'

Go ahead and act smug, knowing you haven't done a day's worth of real work in your life.
