Default "Boss" Fights - Too Hot To Handle?

So what happens when the top guild on a game fails to bring down a "Boss" after 18 consecutive hours of non-stop action? Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI sports just that, apparently the top guild of FFXI gave up on a Boss fight 18 hours in due to losing members to passing out and puking, they were losing the fight.

Square Enix placed a warning before you can log into the game reminding the player

It would seem that SE disregarded that, creating a boss that would take an estimated 24+ hours to kill.

My reason for posting here is to remind developers that the actual people play the game, not robots or super-humans. We are normal people, so in an attempt to create a difficult boss, let's not have it last to where people play so long as to endanger their health.

I'm pretty confident that Star Vault won't do what Square Enix did, especially with talk about boss fights being different from the norm "Tank and Spank" style. So when developing the boss fights, remember to keep them realistic, but challenging, a tough combo to balance.

i don't think you'll have to worry about MO doing the same thing, this isn't that sort of game. besides, ffxi was created for the japanese and koreans, and i'm pretty sure some of them are robots.

Argh, I searched for a thread discussing that before I threw this up here, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it, it's a waste of time and space =/ sorry about that.


And yeah, I think I have to agree with you there, some of those Koreans and Japanese ARE robots dot dot dot

18 hourse for a signle fight? some how i don't see that happening. maybe 18 hours for a string quest.

in a perfect world you would think that, yes. unfortunately he's right, it's 18 hours on a single boss.... and they still didn't finish.

Glad I don't play that game anymore... that's just a stupid amount of time. I'd love to see the storyline, but I just don't have the time to devote to that... thing... in order to see it.
