Ok so ive been playing other mmos out there and they all have the same problem for me. They suck. Sorry but its true. Either the graphics suck but gameplay is good or vice versa or both. Seriuosly can someone make an mmo where the gameplay is fun, skills look well done and smooth and dont make the attacks look like someone smacking someone with a frying pan. Make the game realistic but with the fantasy play to it. When i say fantasy i dont mean jumping and floating arounds for like 10 seconds. Monsters should look like monsters not something you would see next to pikachu. When it comes to weapons I dont know maybe something more than just a sword and finding more swords in the game. I would like to see a game where you can make your own weapons by synthesizing it from to other weapons. making your sorta unique in certain way. Im sure other mmos have that but like i said all of them suck.

Hopefully MO will be our saviour and provide us with an open ended game that is only limited by our own imagination. Of course only time will tell, but I have a really good feeling about MO and the dev's who are really down to earth and in touch with the community.

Seriously though, I agree fully. All other MMO's out there currently are Theme Park, and there hasn't been a good Sandbox since Pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies. |

I think Vanguard is a great sandbox game but SOE bought it and SOE SUCKS!
MO and the fabled darkfall are our only hope left. I'm banking much more on this game than something as shady as darkfall. |

If MO is fun to play, challenging, awesome graphics and animations, solid skills and balancing then Im so there for this game. Still have yet to find a game that can make some the monsters that are meant to be terrifying look truly terrifying. Vanguard came pretty close though. |

As far as VG goes, it could probably still be a great game it surely has allot of potential but it was in trouble before SOE ever touched it. These are some of the "rumors" I heard when I was in beta (and this was early beta). One was Sigil tried to almost completely re-make the Unreal 2.5 game engine and really dropped the ball on it, with sloppy code, and half-ass optimization supposedly a ton of the code does not even have //comments. For the whole beta they blamed the performance problems on the debugging software they had running And they supposedly had/have a very poor scripting engine for the game that made it really hard to make changes to something as simple as damage output on weps and spells. Some talk on the beta boards was that they did not even have scripting support but I find that really hard to believe. (This one I tend to believe just because of how long it use to take them to make those simple changes during beta) Vanguard's failure is all on Sigil IMO.

yeah, i am parked in Warhammer at the moment as well. Got into AoC for a while, but they are really messed that up in my opinion. I wanted this to be the next one i fell in love with, but not gona happen. Ran 3 toons to 80, and called it quits
I have done a lot of looking around to see what is comng. I don't hold a lot of hope for Darkfall. Warhammer looks okay, but i don't see it being the next long term one. I think we have 2 hopes on the drawing board at the moment. (Mortal online and 38 Studios Copernicus) I am hoping for MO. |

I'm hoping Warhammer does something good,
However, I seriously doubt it will, after seeing a few leaked beta videos everything is exactly the same as it was in Dark age of Camelot, just one big 8v8 fagfest full of elitist douche bags. They say things will be more large battle based and such, but it wont, at all. I don't understand why they have to make a game that a retard could play, they put this huge system in the game where you have some sort of Tiers of battles that leads you to the big castle siege battle, you have to declare attacks before you can actually attack, taking the suprize element completely out of the game, then you got all this other terrotory crap where you have to take a farm before you can take the keep... They make gamers out to be morons that cant just make the game interesting themselves, Make a game with a land, allow player made factions, allow those factions to take land, and make it all seemless, not instanced, bam.. you have yourself pvp in a game.. we don't need computer generated consequinces for everything.. taking 5 farms, 6 hoouses a keep and a windmill should have the reward of me and my guild getting more food, more slaves/soldiers and more protection towards other people trying to take our land.. and solo/rogues/archers can slice peoples god damn necks so they can take that food and money that will buy them stuff they want on some black market that players created in *insert backally of guild owned city here.* etc etc etc.. Half the people on these forums could make a mmo that could make millions but instead game companies pay game designers that have only casually played world of warcraft thousands a month to make a game that doesn't even make a thousand. the problem with most mmos today is the linear paths they follow, I want a worl where I can go anywhere and do anything. Have you ever been running by some woods that just made you want to go in them and check them out? All of a sudden BAM! you cannot go in them as they are just there for background! Im not into games that make you feel like cattle, I mean heres how most work....Starter Town>10-15 ville>15-20 ville>20-30 ville etc etc....can I hear a mooooo! I think what people most want nowadays is a complete world that they can do anything in the "ultra sandbox". I dont need teleport systems or waypoints to get me anywhere faster. I want to live and breathe in the world not hop around playing musical tp's. If it takes me a while to get somewhere then so be it, if I cant get past a certain place due to my skill then fine, I will stay near home until I get the skill necessary to do so. I think people want the challenge and big world feel back in their mmos. I mean hell there are enough games out there now to cater to those that want to play easy mode, someone needs to give us that want a "real world" experience just that type of game. I hope MO is it!

@Ravenwoods modern MMORPG's are really designed one-way streets with the addition of a dead-end. Both together is unacceptable for folks want really a game for playing.

What has until now been my favorite MMO is Asheron's Call! I loved the huge variety of monsters and the great dungeons.
But my favorite thing was how I could notice how my character grew more powerful than the monsters. I loved going back to a previous area I had hunted and just around dozens of monsters that couldn't hit me or hit me for 0 damage and then killing them all in seconds. I'm hoping this no levels just skills system will let me experience something similar! |

That's what I am saying...there is a good difference between 'theme park' MMOs which are most of the mainstream MMOs out there at the moment and the sandbox. I am here because this game sounds so much like updated version of UO.

I feel like I missed out on the old swg before it "went bad" I suppose from what I've read. I tried it out but was too... I don't know, couldn't hold me. Once I've played one of the newer ones, they are all easy thereafter without much new stuff. |

I'm walking through the forest. Listening to the sounds, watching birds caught by snakes. Some bears catching fish at a small river. But suddenly, there are some strange sounds reaching my ear. A huge sound, filling the air around me and getting louder as I walk through the forest further. When the forest give place I recognize that there are two armies down the hill, preparing for battle....
That's what I'm looking for. A living world. Where borders changing, stories changing, everything advance. Where stories become legends and legends become myth. I want to travel around finding the unexpected. There is no MMO out there that can give it. Vanguard has been announced to be something like that, but....whatever. I really hope that MO will reach such a point, that I can spend my time in an Avatar and not just simply a 'Character'. Because for an Avatar it needs much more than quests and good items. Life, and so do the environment. |

All I really want is a game that can get my heart rate up again. I haven't had that excitement out of a game in a while. What I mean are penalties. If I'm fighting a player or mob and we're both almost dead, I want those last 2 swings of the swords to make me hold my breath and pray he misses and I crit. That's the big one for me...excitement! Who really cares if you die and have to make a 2 minute corpse run?
I remember playing EQ and how interesting things got once you hit PvP level (can't remember now). My first character dinged in Fay, and about 10 seconds later got oneshotted by some Dark Elf with SoW who never quit running. That made everything so much more fun IMO. |

One thing i miss in the mmorpg's of late is the sense of danger and a good reason for having enemies, er wait that's two things...hell while im at it i'll go for three. Whats with successful PvP fights leaving us with nothing at all but a reason to give ourselves a huge pat on the back, no XP?
I have yet to play an mmorpg that had settings like: A road leading through a dark forest and you can see sets of eyes glowing in the darkness observing you while eerie howls and screams of butchered wild life echo through the darkness. Or exploring deep inside a new found cave and all of a sudden the sound of footsteps, voices and torch light coming around the nearest corner suddenly makes you realize you are not at all alone. Hey... that sounds like what i saw in MO's teaser. I think first person game play has huge HUGE advantages over 3rd person in terms of atmosphere and environmental immersion. Anyone here who played Half-life 2 remember "we don't go to ravenholm"? That was one beautifully horrifying FP experience. Having real incentive to make sworn enemies hasn't only been missing but it also provides a real incentive to make loyal friendships. I'm sick of fighting other players just because their name tags are 'red'. Whether an enemies name is red due to faction or is red just for the pure sake of being able to attack every other player in the game doesn't matter, this "red is dead" PvP philosophy is unimaginative and stale. I say give players resources, land, fame and glory to fight over, give us reason to create our own factions. Now don't get wrong, i feel gainking and PKing is a wonderful aspect that is here to say. It makes no sense to me that PvE encounters are the one and only way to gain experience points. PvP should count for just as much, if not more when it come to XP gain. I must ask, why do the encounters that are the most challenging, most intense and most risky offer absolutely no reward for the development of my character? Well im sure there are a million and one technical and exploitative reasons but still, us PvPers a need some sort of change i think. |

Agreed with the original poster.
The problem with MMO's today: -point and click, extreme grinding systems -linear path, single route paths between towns/cities -the UI has almost become standardized -far too many mmo's are cartoonish in graphics and music, leaving self-respecting older players in the dust -nothing assimilates the user more, than having a possible First Person point of view. it'd be like morrowind. -The world maps are usually small. -Lack of features/skills end up making the skill-trees and actions linear in themselves -The addition of strategy and variability in real-time combat is innovative. And finally, perhaps the most defining factor I see in Mortal Online: Exploration is only interesting as long as your immersed in a mmorpg. And how can you become immersed in an mmorpg if you're playing with, or as a cartoonish caricature of a person? How can you be immersed if the NPC's are mistranslated, if the graphics are terrible, or even if you're in a 3rd Person point of view? In my opinion, Mortal seems to complement each of these aspects with each other. |

I've become immersed in quite a few visually wanting games. Granted, aesthetics is great but story is king. If the story is intriguing I'll stick with it to the end. My real problem with what is out there now is that they end up being grindfests. They have to because all of the mobs are level based just like you.
If the devs can get past that hurdle and make mobs challenging without making them obscenely powerful and 10 levels higher than you, then MO will never be a grindfest. If I'm crafting and I need leather from a powerful beast I should be able to kill it (maybe) and get its skin for new armor. but I shouldn't have to grind my way up to the level required to get the leather I need. That always feels like work rather than gaming. |

Well now if you're burnt out because of the MMO's out there, then I'd suggest you first read a book or some other form of nerve calming and stress relieving exercise that way when you get to play MO you'll be refreshed and not think of it as another MMO. Also you should continuously try to do multitude of activities to prevent being bored of a single one.
