I'm a happy 4850 owner for almost 2 months now and it's just fine for me atm, and looking at 4870x2 reviews it's a really powerful card though the launch price is bit high. Still if you want a high end monster go with 4870x2 though if I were to spend so much $ I'd buy something else than MSI. Also don't forget bout power consumption, you'll need a good PSU for it.

Also one thing I love about these graphics cards that have around 1-2 gb of power, is that games cant get much more real-looking before they just top out, which I suspect will be happening in the next 5-10 years, and even that won't take much more power than today's high end games. The only thing you're going to really need at Shaders, and even those are pretty good on some older graphics cards.

And when they top out everyone will have virtual reality suits therefore eliminating a need for any sort of Graphics Card or computer for that matter.

Well, the next big thing will most likely be realtime raytracing, in maybe 5-10 years. Just google it up, you'll find out why. Edit: Just found a useful link.

But I wouldn't personally pay over 200€ for a graphics card. Last two were under 200€, and they've worked just fine for me. Most games run at high details for about a year and for up to three years all games work solid, though details go down a lot, the more time passes by.

I find buying high end computer parts to be a waste of money. You can pretty much put together a whole PC for that price.

E8400 - $170
8800GTS - $190
Good MOBO - ~$200
Good RAM - ~$70
PSU - ~$150
-----------------
$780

Then again if money's not an issue, sure, get the latest thing and get 10% more FPS for 50% more $$$. Doesn't seem like a good investment to me, but to each his own I guess.

I agree except the 8800gts, why go with an old gpu if you can have a hd4850 for much same or even lower price or at least a 9800GTX+ for a bit higher price. I prefer to spend less on parts but to upgrade them more often.

Your money is better spent buying a vid card every year for $150

I meant the card itself, not the price. lol =)

The price will come down just as it does for every card. =)

my thoughts about Roleplay in MO

----

Sebastian spends a lot of time at the office busy like a bee
he likes to run around naked it makes him feel free
why the women all love him is real easy to see

we love him when he's sitting, standing or spending time in the loo
but the best part about Sebastian is that he loves you too.

Value of the item vs. Value of your money... yes.

Someone that has a 6-figure ($100,000+) income would not look at $550 as something big... (<=0.55% of income)
Where someone bringing in $40,000 (1.375% of income) would see it as a larger purchase.
Another way to look at it.. How long would it take you to earn the amount? 1 day? 2 days? a week? a month?

However, I was more pointing towards the nicety of the item, not the cost. Though, if you think back, I recall "top of the line" cards being released for $800+. Hell I even remember one card that released for ~$1,500. So, $550 isn't bad in that sense.

As far as the card and technology goes its a monster.
It shows a few odd anomalies from game to game, and those are mostly due to the crossfire technology. Drivers may fix the issue.

Huh? Are you sure 2x8800gt is better than 4870x2, that's rather impossible even if its a ssc version from evga ihmo. Also its a one card solution wich is a + (even if it uses crossfire).
