Question Races the POLL

I just wanted to throw in my own opinions. Since this is in development no thread should go without a poll!

I am really hoping for a D&D style world. The problem with D&D is your were restricted to the "Non-Evil" classes. I never wanted to play them but my friends did

I would love to see humans, elves, dwarves, half-elves etc. But also orcs, half-orcs, undead, and a variety of other races in between.

So I will put up this poll with all the races mentioned so far in this discussion.

Don't think you can play "monster" races, half-orcs is as close as where gonna get. To lazy to find the link but I read it somewhere!

this is what lialith mentioned after going to the leipzig gc:

I also really dont think there will be playable orcs. They did choose half-orcs because they wanted to make that warrior kind of character more concrete. If you think of movies like 300 or Gladiator, thats the kind of direction they were aiming for when they decided to have playable half-orcs. They dont want to have playable "monsters" and also do not want to let monsters become human in some sort of way. I think it will be a realistic fantasy setting as far as it is possible.
the devs haven't confirmed all this yet, so we're still waiting on that, but given the detail here, it sounds like it's pretty accurate.

i think it's a good idea. i don't mind having monster characters, but the half-orcs will be something new and interesting. i'm excited to see what other races they include.

I would love the play an evil char though, having the survive in the bad parts of town where its a big free for all. A place where the strong arm of the law doesn't reach and if your skilled enough as a player you can go about in the better parts of town at night hiding and killing someone for their gear and money

if a playable half-orcs no playable orcs as a direction is anything to relay upon, i see the direction of the other races as either one of 3 possibilities:

1) other races will be like the half orc - some magical fantasy variation of humans.
2) other races will be mostly human cultures.
3) other races will be the classical D&D variants of humanoids

while non of those is quite my ideal, i would rather go with 1, because i think it presents the most interesting and seldom-explored road.

Actually, there has already been race polls on the forums. But they have somewhat failed to capture what people truly want.

If I were you, I'd try to go with a more open-minded list of "preference trends" for the poll (kind of like what Traceur posted above), instead of trying to establish an exhaustive list of races.

My 2 cents.

Personally, I like the idea of human-only. Human variations only is cool too.

Like traceur implied above, I'm fairly sure that the "races" will really be just exaggerations of human characteristics that take a form that is reminiscent of said characteristic.

Elves = snooty but noble and artistic
Half orcs = Barbaric and stupid, but powerful
Dwarves? = Stubborn, but handy with craftsmanship
etc.

That being said, I don't think our "choosing" of races will really have an effect on the devs decisions by this point. It'll have to fall into one of those mentioned above, or something similar that fills another role.
