Default A different way for Vampire.

I think a vampire race would really be a fun twist to an MMO. The way I would implement this if it were my game is like this.

I would make Vampires a hidden race. You would have to start a character normally and more than likely that character would have to be a human race. As you progress through you would be able to start a quest line where you work for a vampire. As you got closer to the end of this line you would begin to see that you are going to be faced with a decision. Once you do a few more quests you would be faced with the choice of fighting and killing the quest giver for a permanent buff and a nice weapon, and the option to create a new character that is half vampire/half human (or the race you chose), or the choice to become a member of the vampire race. Killing the vampire master would definitely be the harder option of the two.

At this point you would be given some extra options as far as character design. If you chose to continue on as a full vampire you would only be able to travel around outside during the night. At this point you would be required to do a quest that would reward you with a magic hooded cloak that would allow you to travel outside during the day. As you progress in the game the cloak would get stronger as you did. I.e. it would be upgradeable.

If you chose to kill the vampire you then continue on through the game with whatever plans you had but with a decent perma-buff and a decent weapon for a few levels. Your new character slot could play as the unlocked race of half vampire / half human, known as a Dhampir. This characters father would have been a full vampire and the mother would have been a human. This character would have the vampire’s powers but none of the weakness and as stated before this would be very hard to achieve. This character would be able to be created with some of the character design options that a person who became a vampire.

I think this would be a lot of fun to play out and would be an interesting change to picking a race and playing through the game. Additional ideas I had were that the weapon that you would get if you killed the vampire could be upgraded later in a series of quests. That way it could be held onto and would later serve a purpose, instead of “that weapon” that you use for a few levels and then sell to a vendor. I also thought that the person who chose to play as the vampire could have some sort of weakness / sickness he develops when being out in the sun even with the cloak on. At night the cloak would make him stronger.
