I hope magical swords will be apart of MO. If you kill a worthy mob i.e. dragon as an example the possibly of pulling a glow stick or flame stick s/b there. Players should be able to enchant weapons after taking long arduoss lesson/tutalage or finding scrolls/ruins buried deep underground.
I really hope this will not be an Age of Conan game where magic swords do not exist. I also do not think magic swords should be ultra rare but they should be hard to come by. I have a request. If magic swords will be in game some of them should have sound effects such as hum when a certain mob nears to warn you. Sorry keeping this short girl friend aggro (for real) ..lol.. |

when you suggest "glow sticks" and humming sound effects, i really hope you don't have lightsabers in mind...

Well a....dragons arnt gonna be dropping swords...its a dragon...and b...sure I like magic swords, but I dont want them glowing, or humming, all that does is paint a huge target on you telling bandits " Hey come kill me, I have a good weapon you can steal from me ".

Yeah a dragon has a treasure pile, somewhere in their lair or something, not on them lol, that one thing I hate about games with dragons, wth are the lairs and piles of treasure.

You never know a dragon could have learned how to use a sword...
Or it could have a sword stuck on the side of it.

Lachrymose, I believe he was implying the behavior of a dragon to hoard treasure in stockpiles in its lair, not on him, kind of like Smog in The Hobbit.
That would be believable. On the "glow stick" feature for weapons, I don't like it at all, weapons should never glow unless they have the "glow" ability on them (like a flashlight of sorts) and only for a certain amount of time, the thought of weapons glowing blue if they have an ice property or red for a fire property never clicked with me, to me, subtle changes are more in my favor, like maybe a jewel has a SLIGHT glow on the pommel of a sword, or there are runes on the blade of the sword with different colors, but a glow just takes away from the whole weapon. My 2 cents. |

what exactly is the idea? to help balance out high-end weapons by making them into "aim here" target markers?

I really hope they wont have it. Personally I like that AoC have realistic weapons/armors (even tho the item diversity pretty much suck atm) and I hate the glowing toy sabers everyone's using in WoW and oversized ufo shoulderpads.
Also I REALLY hope this game will have scabbards! Please don't let the weapons be glued to our backs like all the other mmos.. |

I say yes to cool magical items and weapons, I say no to glows like WoW or EQ's!!!!
They are cheap, unimaginative additions that just look silly! If it is a fire sword make it firey while in combat. So, a sword may go aflame (with cool fire effect too, rather than just red or orange glow!) and start burning the opponents as it hits. But may look just normal in other times. I would rather like to see details, swirls, embroidery etc on items than some cheap glowstick....this is not StarWars nor are we here to rave!

Seriously tho, I'm not a fan of glowing weapons. Similar to what Sanctus suggested, at most there could be a jewel on the handle of the sword that would reflect light. Or maybe a phosphate rock that would glow slightly in the dark. More realistic weapons get my vote. Also the only sound effects I wanna hear is the swords clashing against each other and armors or slashing someones skin.

I wouldn't care less if there are special effects on swords or any other weapons but like Ravenwoods said if they decide to implent such things don't make some random "fantasy" colours instead like he said fiery glows, icy glows and such should be made IF glows would be implented in the first place.

But who defines how a magic sword should look or act? So, having magic swords is not necessarily equal to shiney glows!

You guys cant compare MO to WoW, or Vanguard or any of those, they are theme park MMOs, this is a sandbox, if you never played UO or PreNGE SWG then you dont really have a comparison.

I have no problem with magic weapons and items that are difficult to get, but seriously, why would you want it to stand out? thats not a good thing in a FFA PvP world
