I have seen no one that I want as a mod, just people that are happy go lucky posters with no real purpose.
Edit: which is great, because it's keeping me entertained, but not mod material.

As for in-forum moderation, when someone becomes a mod they lose most of their connection to the community. They seem themselves as a mod, not as a normal membre. They do not see both sides of the issue, but they may be bias to those membres they like. Which will happen no matter what. In-forum moderators are also risky, they could abuse their power with stupid infractions for those they dislike. Aslong as moderation is watched over by an administator, there is no problem. There are too many moderators. |

I would not be so hard on moderation. It does get annoying but I would not say the mentally deficient or power hungry desire it. Those who ask for moderation powers usually want to help. If they need help most people who have been moderators before would volunteer.

volunteering or being asked to do it is one thing...I've modded chats and boards before, it's a suck task that nobody in their right mind would /desire/ to do. Yes, some, including myself, would do it if asked. But I am the last person you will hear saying.....pick me! pick me!! |

It would be an honor to get chosen to be community staff for a game of the caliber of Mortal Online. Modding also has its advantages and benefits. It is sometimes nice to be able to cool things down when you see posts filled with flamming wars.

I've honestly been a lurker on the Darkfall forums for years and I've yet to see any real problems.. Swearing is allowed there of course but I try not to let it bother me unless it's every other word. I haven't seen any problems with the Mortal Forums either. I know we have a lot of "forumfaller's" amongst us, but I see no reason to discriminate against them. I do tend to stick to other realms of the forums though so maybe I'm just not seeing it. I try my best to avoid the Off Topic threads so maybe that's where all of the issues are. Anyways, as I said, I think the moderators have done a terrific job here and don't see any real excuse for additional moderators other than for the reason that one of us wants the position.
This is all coming from a guy that takes things in stride though. I don't let things as simple as gaming forums bother me.. That'd be the least of my worries to be honest. |

as a moderator, what do you do? you troll the trolls: your job is to tell people to shut up & close their discussions when they don't listen. after awhile you become a troll yourself.
i think there's room for a positive moderator, not the one who plays a cop, but the one who places helpful sticky's, collect dev' quotes & press notes, welcomes & helps new people to find the info & get the hang of it, maybe does some dirty jobs for the Dev's like introducing ideas to the community & see how they react... and I'm not suggesting myself: unless you don't mind moderators being missing for the occasional 6 months or so, it sort of can't be me. but there are plenty of others much more qualified here IMO for the positive moderator role. |
