Hello,
how will the economy will look like in MO? I would like to prefer an absolute Player economy. No crafting/ressources-NPCs. Everything should be made by the Player, from collecting ressources to forging a Weapon. And in the GC Interview you said that, if you kill the ancient dragon shown in the teaser trailer, you wont get any weapons or something. Will you get a very rare Dragon scale which make your weapon or armor unique? That would be very nice. Cylox. |

So far the devs are heavily hinting, and stated somewhere that the economy will be player run after a few weeks from the start.

i think that would be a great idea, id rather have a player holding up a store than haveing an npc, obviously this will be hard to achieve since not every player wants to sit there trying to sell something, so basically it means their will need to be an auction house. So if theres an auction house i think this could work, but i dunno, prices might be too high, it would be a hard economy to keep stable. I can make a sword and put it up at 1000g and another guy can put it up at 10g, and how will anyone know which one is the right price?
actualy i think itake that back, sooner or later the game would creat its own economy...I guess well have to wait and see =)

an auction house would be ok. No one wants to sit around all the time and selling his stuff. and the prices will stable itself, cause you will know of which material this sword is and how easy it is to get this ressource. Just like in UO |

Just like in good old swg where there crafted stuff had always been better than the looted one, but you had to loot components to craft certains things, well, you could craft them without those components, but the components would add extra damage and so on. |

Auction houses are ok buy NPCs that you can hire or use are more emersive. I remember in SWG when I named my NPC vendors with the same last name my character had and set them up in my large house. It became a family business. Allowed me to go out and enjoy the world and yet have a consistant presents vendoring things I either made or looted.

Quite a bit of what is going to happen in the economy in the game can be found in this thread.

I'm glad that even though SWG is now a dead, decaying shell of what was once referred to as a "game," it's legacy still lives on to inspire. A skill system without levels, a free world with player run cities and faction wars, a completely player run economy, and it's thorough, entertaining crafting system... For all of it's shortcommings, SWG had certain features that have yet to be outdone.

yes but many games say "player based" economy
my image of that is with housing you set up vendors and that is how you buy thing...well anything good that is, and the player chooses the prices i never really liked the auction houses in games mainly WoW I remember UO where houses were built all around eachother to provide like a town with tons of player vendors. |

I want to know how issues like inflation are going to be dealt with. At one point having a million gold check was quite an achievement in UO, now theres people who don't have enough room to store their million gold checks. This makes the currency worthless, and items because the economy (Diablo 2 anyone?). This is fine of course, and I suppose maybe intended since a player driven economy would be one where the players decide what has what value, and if they decide that gold is not valuable then that is good.
