So, as I were searching the forums I found an interessting thread, not the exakt thing as the one im gonna do right now but almost.

What races would you like to see in-game? the ones that we know of right now are Humans and half Orcs.

I would like to see elf kinds, maybe darkelfs or woodelfs or the like.

Elves are so overdone though. I mean, half orcs were in DnD and a bunch of other stuff, sure, but they aren't in every fantasy setting with multiple races ever. Keep it with rarer stuff and new stuff.

I know that they are in most games, but I'd still like to see them

I don't see why Elves is a must. But don't know what to replace them with. But one thing i'd like to see is alot more mythological creatuers/races and why not more selfcreated ones.

Ya definitely and complete custom characters would be a very nice addition from height to hairdo A must have! I would love to see full blooded Orcs as well as a minotaur race which would put the sissy flower hugging Taurins of WoW to shame lol Cmon developers get at it!

I want to see more "fantasy" races than classic MMO races... that said... I will throw up an idea I just now wrote...
ahh the perfect place for this picture I wanted to show off!!!

I did not make this, found it browsing the internet for pictures, (love looking at random fantasy pics) so i cant post this in concept art contest.

Here is my idea for an ancient race... The name I picked is a combination of the words "ROC" and "Kotengu"

The rukh-tengu are a race of half-demons, spawned from the curruption of a human sorcerer that tried invoking the spirits of raptors many millennia ago. The spirits summoned by the sorcerer overwhelmed him, and the resulting creature was no longer human, or demon. The rukh-tengu are fierce predators that have intelligence to match their strength. They are social creatures, and hunt in packs. They possess magic abilities used for weaving silk-like fabric from spiders, which they worship. The practice of magic does not extend beyond imbuing clothing and trinkets with magical energy, and blessing themselves with dark rituals. They have no interest in weapons beyond what natural weapons they have, they rely on their raw strength agility and cunning while hunting. They see every creature as prey, but take particular interest in Humans. While retaining the ability to reproduce, the demon bloodline grew thinner after the centuries have passed by, watered-down by the breeding with humans. The almost infinite life span of the creatures dwindled because of the weakening bloodline. Feared by the other races of the world, the rukh-tengu where hunted and slaughtered till the remaining survivors where few. The remaining few rukh-tengu broke into small nomadic tribes. Sticking to small tribes and clinging to the shadows stopped the other races from actively hunting them. The rukh-tengu eventually faded into the stories of old, and became nothing but legend; although, some say that the original pure-blooded demon sorcerer still walks the mortal-world.

I will add more to this later, and fix it up, as I meant to go to bed about 1hr ago.

i would prefer just human races without any "orcs" or gay elves :/

The human races should be section in some viking race, arabic race, romans race and so on. The Tindremene reminds me kind of the romans. If there will be a Elve race then it should be the dark elves or something.

I'm with Cylox on this one, I've grown rather tired of the traditional races (orc, elves, dark elves, dwarfs ect). Seems like MO is going on a more distinguishable race selection.

I mean, we already have Half Orcs, that have a very interesting background. The Tindremenes seem to represent only one part of the human population in this game. Soley due to the fact that they are named Tindremenes, not just Humans.

It would be fine, if they can come up with some other unique non-human race, but I'm hoping for no traditional MMO races.

I like the idea of orcs / half orcs as it lets you play a sort of darker side. But please god no elves.

And what a picture it is! This is absolutely phenomenal work! And not only the drawing, but the description as well. The name is perfect.

As for certain races i think any of the following would be pretty cool.

Gorgons

Daemon/half demon .. maybe even a satyr

undead/lich like/ancient egyptian rising from dead.. lavished in ancient jewels and gold but dead/evil/powerful

something similar to a halfing.. but with a darker feel.. pygmy like race similar to stygians in D2.. jungle tribe very small.. agile.. cannibals

4 armed race? similar to ancient gods/goro

I like a lot of the ideas by the above poster. I am a big fan of the Lich. Mystic pygmies would also be a fun class to play. Imagine running around on the tops of trees shooting poison darts down on people. You can not tell me that wouldn't be fun. I also think goblins should be brought into this. I know they are a little over used but it seems like such a dark race would fit into the MO world so well. On top of that, I really can't think of many games where you can actually play as a goblin.

I really like the face of that character you posted Tanzy, I'm less interested in the way the body looks though the idea of Tengu does seem pretty cool.
I also like the notion of a sinister halfling race, still thinking about that elf like, lamb-horned face that Tanzy posted; it seems like it could fit.
Gremlins or Hobgoblins or something almost Satyr-like as someone suggested....little-magic-evil-dudes-of-the-woods but not green or warty. Give them any name you want I think they could be pretty cool.

Elves...sighs...everyone wants elves, I would try to argue no elves, I don't like them, but once you have orcs, elves are sure to follow and of course dark elves. Maybe we could have only dark elves give them a proper name and never refer to them as darkelves or drow but only as the "Nhskdh" or whatever. Please no dwarves, just give us some Nordic humans instead. I'd rather have gnomes than dwarves.

Now that is sweetness. If we were able to play this race, I would go for it. Of course, if they have races/character types like this, then the rest better be very interesting too, or everyone would play this one

Will there be another race contest? I'd be interested to see what more ideas people could come up with. I myself have an idea for a race that isn't far shy from human as to not deviate from what was said about not making "monster" playeable races. Instead this race would be an almost human adapted to their surroundings to make them profficient on what they are...

any news as to that though?

The last 5 are really classes more than races, though I am interested to see an elf-orc. Demon would also be an interesting one as well.

I think MO lore will be pretty similar to the Conan lore where there were different cultures among the HUMAN race.
So far all we see are cultures but all are humans. The half orcs...well they are described as inteligent human like creatures and they look like humans, so I consider them just as a little bit stronger humans.
I hope we get some Nordic culture, an arabic one and some Japan inspired one too.

Darkghost there wont be any classes in MO..

Centaurs would be an interesting race to have.
Strong, fast, a fairly good amount of Int. And most important a Tail !!

you know, i find that nearly all mythical races can be ascribed to breaking of 3 boundaries- range, species, death, & concrete limits....
resulting in myths described as- extreme variations, metamorphic, undead, or concrete fusions.
perhaps these can be traced back respectively to descriptive exaggeration, metaphorical thinking, existential fears & fetishism.
  • extreme variations- breaking the ranges found in nature by pushing certain natural characteristic to the extreme.
  • metamorphic- breaking the boundary of species, by one species (often humans) adopting something of another or other species, either: a characteristic, trait or ingredient, or in the form of humanoid animals or animal sentience.
  • undead- breaking the boundary between what is living what is not, in the form of undeath, necromancy, animism or spiritualism.
  • fusion- breaking the boundary of concrete objects: multiply human ingredients, asymmetrical animal ingredients, spiritual ingredient, physical ingredients.
for example- animal characteristic: a subtle characteristic reminiscent of an animal quality resulting from the combination of the character's descriptive variables, but they are each within the expected human range, often prescribed as an intuitive absorption of others towards a character who behaves or thinks, thinks, act or lives in a certain manner either consciously through wardrobe & practices or unconsciously that is reminiscent of that particular animal. "there's something wolfish/rattish/snakeish" about him", the expression, the posture, the layout of facial hair, the way he walks, the way his lips move when he talks... for example Kongfu martial art schools are often based around a particular animal as an inspiration for movement, stephenwolf from herman hasse's book claims to a wolfish characteristic to his manner, wolverine from the x-man has a jaguar characteristic to his manner & physique, Altair in assassins creed has a hawk like characteristic to his movement & shadow, orcs & elves in generic fantasy are said to have a bore like & a feline like characteristic to their expression & movement respectively.

i think that it is not unthinkable to align magic systems that simply allow for these variations to emerge, and character creations to be based on prior magical activities within that world.
