Thanks for the faith, Kopatch. Humbly though, I can say that there have been many good entries these last couple days. Hopefully this first installment of the Reav'Fros series is judged to be among the best of the other great machinimas that have been submitted recently.

I like it, nice to see some storytelling. It gave me an urge to RP in Mortal, something I haven't done yet.

I really liked it. You made a storyline and showed what kind of metagame MO is aiming for at the same time. It looks really professional, and I love the way you blended some of the game sounds in with the music.
The only thing I felt was that the explanations were unecessary. If you cut out all the text in the middle you would still completely understand what the story is. The camera angles and the scenes were clear enough to do that. It's a shame the combat scene looked a bit stilted. I wonder if it would have worked if you'd actually made a real fight, with people kiting all over the place, and going in and out of camera range, and the camera swinging around trying following them...sort of representing the confusion of a real battle? Nice to see the death animations though! Good stuff.

Nice work one of the best by far, the only flaw really is that you had your helmet on a view times while running to the left.

great, my fav. so far!
i really like the scout part where he can see them coming from real far. so basically real good. some stuff that could make it cooler: could be cool if some of the guys that came to kill you had torches, to burn down the houses you know also before the fight scene started and you had a shot of this guy on the roof it felt like one of those western movies when clint eastwood like walking inside the village and everyone hiding around in the buildings around, and i honestly you thought that some would run like they did in they video but also see like a couple of bows from the rooftops or from windows. really cool anyway

Yea there were some things we would like to have done, but due to time limits and the amount of people we had on line we could only do so much. And then we had a few run ins with Pks that we lost a few of our horses, so we had to do something a bit different. But as the FRC grows bigger we will be able to have more actors and we will be flushing out this story even more. But I love how it ended, really good.

Yeah, the text was something that I rather agonized over actually. Was worried that on one hand people would end up being lost, and on the other, people such as yourself feeling like they were being overly helped along in the story. It's a hard balance to reach, especially with a wide variety of viewers with all different backgrounds and different levels of "focus". I've always been against the mantra in the film industry that goes something along the lines of, "The audience is stupid", and with that in mind I did cut out some text that would of been even more intrusive. So overall though I think we have a good balance in this first installment. In regard to the comments about the combat, I agree, I would have loved to have done more there. But... couple issues got in our way. Time limits are one, both in the 7 minutes movie limit (would of loved to have had more scenes here but movie timelimit got in the way) and the late hour it was getting while shooting footage. The second, would simply be the limited number of participants. But as Landor mentioned, as time goes we will be adding to the list of actors. Quote:
In regard to your comment about the helmet, that was done partially on purpose. It was done so that the viewers focus was more on the center of the image rather than the sides. For example the side scrolling scene that you mentioned, that was done so that when the closeup cuts came in during that scroll, the viewer would hopefully have his focus on the center of the screen and not the left, waiting for more terrain to come into view. He would then be better prepared for the cuts. Similarly it was used in the scene where the scout spots the band of men, to better bring a focus to where the action was. Down in the valley. Quote:
Thanks Kio. Really appreciate the nice words Phratello. Thanks Flint, appreciate the compliment. Thanks for the 5/5 rating, Tubby! |

Thanks Trixxer, glad you liked it. Thanks a lot Bartillo! Glad you enjoyed it, Emil! Also, and this isn't directed at anyone specifically, here are the storyboards that we created. These were created in the first week to week and a half of the competition and overall we had a lot of things which we adjusted and changed, added and subtracted. Which is the reason for the discrepancies between this and the overall finished product. Go to this link to view them if you are curious. The size was originally around 3500x6200, but it's been downsized to a width of 1600 pixels for easier viewing. http://data.frostreaver.com/FRC Stuff/Images/draft1boards.jpg Last edited by Stewker : 14th December 2009 at 16:04. |

Given some more time to work on it, and no time limit, we could of done more. I would of almost killed for an extra minute or two in the film, but all films were limited at a maximum length of 7 minutes.
