Creature concept - The Seeker

A seeker, or "seeking wraith" as it's also called, is a figure cloaked in tattered black robes and carrying a lit lantern. The face is partially concealed, but if one was to look upon it one would see either a rotten face or, more commonly, a skull. It got no legs, instead floating slowly over the ground.

The seeker initially stalks the place of his or hers death, searching for something, but as time goes by they usually venture out into the world in their search. What they are searching for is still up for debate. Some say they look for their killer, others tell grim tales of seekers stalking the marshes and dark woods, looking for their very souls.

Encounters with seekers always happens in the dark, either in a cave or in the night (since he believes that whatever he's looking for can only be found by the light of his lantern). He will not normally attack, unless you come to close - nothing must stand in the way of a seeker and his search!

Designers notes (Read if you want to know my thoughts behind the creation of the seeker)

When I started brainstorming I asked myself the question "What kind of creature would I like to meet in the dark of night, and how could I create an eerie and mysterious feeling around it?". The result of that question is the seeker! If I had gone with a more common variation of the wraith, say the grim reaper, it would probably have triggered a "fight or flight" reaction from the player who encountered it, and that was not what I had in mind. By removing the weapon and instead adding a lamp in it's place I will hopefully create another response from the player encountering the creature - curiosity. Why does this ghost have a lantern? Can I talk to it? Is it a quest giver? What is it doing out here on it's own? Is it hostile?

Also, I wanted a ghost that was rather uncommon, but common enough so that travellers and explorers would sometimes come upon it, but not common enough to be guarding a tomb with 20 of his dead friends.

I added some designer notes and added some description.

There's a lot of talented artists in this contest, but I'm afraid I'm not one of them. Still, I hope the picture can convey the feeling I had in mind for this creature!

Enjoy!

I think the description and your notes get your point across pretty well and I have to admit that I'd be one of those people who'd be curious and venture closer if I saw a ghost wandering around with a lantern. Good job.
