Default APB (All Points Bulletin)

I got to say, this game looks like everything I have always dreamed of while playing GTA. Imagine GTA only all the "cops" and all the "gangsters" are real players.

Check it out:

http://www.apb.com/

The podcasts hold a lot of information about the game, but I will through a few features I can think off the top of my head:

-No levels
-Skill based
-Third person shooter
-Customizable weapons, clothing, vehicles
-Turf warfare

There is a lot more, but if you are interested just watch some of the podcasts.

If your dreams are of GTA with more people then good for you I guess, personally I found the game pretty shallow and boring.

Quite a few people came away from the beta thinking this needed work from what I hear.

And i hope it gets it, as the concept is fun.

Have been following this one for many years, even a few years before it appeared on mmorpg! However, since their beta started it had all gone quiet...will definitely try this when it releases at some point.

Well, the fantasy shit gets boring after a while, and there are no sci-fi MMOs that float my boat yet.

So this is my #1 most hopefully right now

If you are picky it's not really an mmo...

I will absolutely try this game when it comes out, let's just hope EA doesn't fck it up too bad.

#1 - EA is only selling the game, not producing it
#2 - MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) - 100,000 players to a server, 100 to a city, sounds pretty massive to me

#1 - Last time I checked EA was the publisher of APB
#2 - It's a question of definition I guess, but I wouldn't call it mmo. It doesn't matter really ^^

I hope you are not mistaking MMORPG with MMO, because they have specifically said that this game is NOT and MMORPG, it is an MMO.

sure seems to fit the bill:

A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMOG) is a video game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature at least one persistent world.

MMOGs can enable players to cooperate and compete with each other on a large scale, and sometimes to interact meaningfully with people around the world. They include a variety of gameplay types, representing many video game genres.

A persistent world (PW) is a virtual world that continues to exist even after a user exits the world and that user-made changes to its state are, to some extent, permanent.[1][2] The term is frequently used in the definition of the massively multiplayer online video games and can be considered synonymous with that class of games.[3]
-APB has 100,000 players to a server, 100 players to a city. This means that each server will have 1,000 cities.
-A player can go to different cities or remain in the same one.
-Each city has turf that can be taken by gangs (enforcers or gangsters)
-Turf can be taken while players are offline
-Not every single person in a city has to be logged on to make it work.

Sure seems persistent to me, mind clarifying your point a little more?

They have said they are building an action game, and they want it to feel very fast paced. They have a 10 second respawn I think and you respawn decently close to were you died. An arrest increased the respawn time to 30 second total.

They also have said that depending on how these timings work out, they may change them in the future depending on if it seems to fast or to slow.

It's a nice concept, and it turned more than a few heads at E3. Plus, EA wanted to sell it, so that means something.

Well as i played it, this seem really far from the reality .... there is not 1000 cities, just 3 maps (2 pvp districts and one social district) that are instanced, when the limit of 100 player is reached in a map, another instance of the map is created.
Those instances are not persistant (when there is no more playing inside it disappear) and anyway you can't change the city with your actions. The missions are "objectives" (like stopping the criminals before/after they commit a crime) but in noway affect the world ...

This is a good and fun multiplayer game, but in no way a MMO ...

Maybe that is now, but since this forum has so much talk of BETAS, then you can surly understand that it will change a lot between now and release. I don't see how you could do turf wares and not make it a persistent world.

played a bit in beta and it didnt have a mmo feel to it, all you do is some small missions and its often 1vs1 at a time. sometimes there are some bigger fights but not much bigger then playing gta4 online.

It's closed beta, and then again, theres less than 200 people playing in this beta, half of which don't log on all the time, the quarter of which aren't in your area or skill level. Those who you get matched to are those who are most capable of taking you on or who are close enough to you.

Anyways, I'm expecting this with open arms, I already have my money ready for pre-order.

When you die and respawn, you do have to search for your gears again or every thing will stay on you? If yes, i think its stupid and i might stay in GTA4 free mode for that reason.Carebears are killing our games even if the game is a focus pvp.

I think you have to restock up on ammo, either that or you lose a lot of your ammo, they haven't said much yet on this.

He might have a point, but APB is not an mmorpg. Just an MMO and i believe you wont carry too much gears on you. Bullet proof vest, guns and thats it thats all. So once you die, you should drop those so other players may pick them,. Then, you respawn with your starting stuff and figure out a way to get some new stuff. Criminals should respawn with no weapons on them while the police should respawn with a bullet proof vest and a 9mm.

Turf warfare? Unfortunately...Every MMO will suffer from the same little niggling back-draft of a kick in the ass known as "Unable to be logged in 24/7".

How can you own a turf forever and ever if you can't be logged on the computer to defend it from the world? Answer : Have a organization based around the world. Problem. 100 people per server =D

=( I look forward to seeing this game some more in the future though

At least they admit that game is not MMO when its not 100 player in one game is small. Other 10.000 ar in only same server cluster. I like that honest game. I try that when its go out.

I hate games like Guild Wars where they lie thy advertising and call game MMO when it is not. You can only play game 4 player party. It is not make game massive if there is 3d city chat mode.

Uh, here's the quote from the APB FAQ where they are being "honest."

Quote:
Is APB an MMO?

APB is entirely online and multiplayer however it’s a unique game and is not the same as other MMOs out there.
Now here's the quote from the Guild Wars FAQ where you say they are "lying."

Quote:
Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?
Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences.
Notice any similarities?

And I'm pretty sure saying it's "not the same as other MMOs" is them insinuating that it is still an MMO, I don't know how you can read that as them being honest and admitting it's not one.

Hi Johnny,

Congratulations!

You have been selected to be an APB beta tester! You are about to enter San Paro and choose your path as a criminal or an enforcer!
