I get to the "Login Screeen" and when I enter my username and password, it says
"The client version doesnt match the server version, update your client" but Im pretty sure it is supposed to autoupdate for me. Oh, so I hit cancel and try to hit login again, and the login just scrolls very rapidly and then doesnt repsond.

I had a few very strange crashes during the 2nd stresstest (all nowgame). The most noticeable was a crash and after logging in again I was at a place I had been to 15 min before the crash. The crashes seemed to happen during playing, sometimes 2 minutes after logging in, other times after an hour. Was this a stresstest hickup or is something wrong with my computer?

With latest patch (0.12.17.19) my MO client crash every time a few seconds after I push "play" button in patcher just a second after it start in full screen (black screen appears). Just yesterday with 0.12.16.18 I game was running without any problem. I have all necessary components (Drivers, PhysX, .Net) up to date. The only thing I have changed in my system are the latest nVidia drivers (193.21).
Now I'm re-downloading the game hoping I have messed the patch process somehow...

I have this issue now after all else I have been through for 2 days. Any ideas? I get the message from Windows after I click Play on the Main login screen and the patches if any are successful. I have rebooted, reloaded, all latest drivers.

Nowgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Now I downloaded and patched again and everything looks fine. Something with patching was messed up. Maybe I have copied the version with the new patcher over the old one, so it can be the reason.

I get the same error (also new with this patch), but I get it as the Unreal animation is playing. My event viewer says:

I've got a fun one - no error, just when I try to enter my username it clicks, then unclicks again. If I hold down a key (like W lets say) and then click the username, I can get about 4 W's max before it unclicks the area.

I download the client via torrent 3 times, but every time when I run the updater I get for a short time a small beam and the message "checking upadates" and then(after 10sec.) the error message "Mortal Online launcher no longer works"

"before I started the upadater the launcher have the size of 22.236kb but after the error message only 21.531kb"

Yes, updated.exe is meant to update launcher, not the game and your size is correct. Mortal Online Launcher.exe may have to be run in compatibility mode (I do with Win 2003) and/or as administrator.

Got everything reinstalled and patched up...and got the Nowgame error as follows:

Faulting application name: NowGame.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4b5a2348
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdbdf
Exception code: 0xc06d007e

Checked drivers to make sure they were updated and downloaded the latest Physx. As a side note, the Faulting module name sometimes switches to NowGame.exe instead of the KERNELBASE.dll. Thanks a bunch for any help you guys can give.

Edit: I tried reinstalling the PhysX driver a few times, and it finally worked. Looking forward to exploring Myrland. :-)

I always crash in the loading screen after pressing play. I have tried everything and its always the same.

My specs:
C2D 2,5GHz, 4Gb Ram, 280M GTX with Win 7..64bit

The newest drivers for mobile geforce's are 195.62 so could it be that?

Hi... Yes, i've tried different spawn points many times and the maxLODsize did not work... they we're allready down to 256, well some of them. Because i've lowered the graphics to minimum. But nothing seems to work. It just crash after play..

Same here, i did everything (new drivers, frameworks, physics etc). Also tried with compatibility modes and solution with editing file and changint to 512.

I have just found some problem with client and solution to it. UE3 may crash whenever in Vista or 7 you have activated speech recognition (it might be also sleeping mode). Games like UT disable speech regognition so it won't cause problems however MO client skips that thing which may cause crash.
In order to avoid that you need to turn off speech recognition before starting client. standard stop listening command won't be enough and it must be completely turned off by right-clicking on either systray icon or speech recognition window and selecting Off: do not listen to anything I say.
In case you have recognition activated client may pass MO logo and switch to full screen mode (if you are using it ofc). Then it's possibly that you will see only black screen and client will stop responding.

The following fixed my problem i had with NowGame.exe that stops working. (Note: This is immediatly after the splash screen)

Search for this file:
Mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\Engine\Config\BaseEngin e.ini

After that, search for the following settings:
ResX=
ResY=

Change these settings to:
ResX=800
ResY=600

Adding this to this thread as it may help some folks.


For the hell of it, if you haven't done a Windows update in a while, do so.

For some other less common issues, read below.

My own history with crashes and those of people I know, which may help some folks down the road should they run into them:

If the downloader/patcher seems to hang, leave the room and let it run for 15 - 20 minutes while you grab a beer, help the kids, smoke a bowl, feed your cats, whatever. Just give it time. After that, cancel it and restart, rinse, repeat.


Runtime issues:

1. Make sure that no unnecessary devices (especially USB devices) are connected to your computer, at times they screw with the game's runtime. So:
Disconnect all devices from your computer that you do not need in order to play (basically, keep your mouse and keyboard, if you want to use a headset, plug it in AFTER the game starts- that is, if the headset being plugged in was an issue in the first place)

2. If the updater/patcher is fine, and the "play" button is available, yet you hit play and nothing happens . . .
Use ctrl + alt + delete to check your running processes. If Nowgame.exe is running but MO is not doing sh*t, cancel that process, and try again.

3. Delete the game log files found in <MO game root folder>\Updater\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\NowGame \Logs

4. Remove the nowgame config files found in <MO game root folder>\Updater\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\NowGame \Config (do NOT delete any file named Defaultxxx, only the ones named Nowxxx)

5. Try rerunning the launcher at this point, again make sure Nowgame.exe is not already running (ctrl+alt+delete, select "processes", and right click Nowgame.exe and choose "end process" if it's there), even if the launcher says it's ok to hit play, wait 15 - 20 seconds. Again- pack a bowl, help kids, grab a beer, feed cats, squeeze your woman/man, whatever, then hit play.

6. Still having an issue? Try reinstalling your gfx drivers (restart not required necessarily), run game as above.

7. Still yet having an issue? Reinstall Physx

(yeah, even though yer sh*t's already up to date, dunno why but sometimes it works to reinstall the gfx programs/drivers anyway)

8. Still not working? Try disabling Phsyx acceleration and SLI in your gfx card's options (not sure about modern ATI cards, but NVidia has a control panel you can do this from with a couple clicks) then try running the game.

9. Still cannot run the game? Ok if you have multiple CPUs or multi core CPUs try installing a cpu core optimizer, there's one from the Microsoft download site and one made by AMD (the AMD one works for most Intel CPUs as well just fine). After install you shouldn't need to restart your machine usually. Sometimes you need both the one from Microsoft's site AND the AMD one both installed. Then run the game. Which brings us to:

10. Restart your machine after you've been f*cking with it this much if the game still isn't running, then try to run the game.

11. Still still not effin' working? Drink, then search through MO's forum site under the "Support" section (this section), be sure to check the stickies first. Drink some more, If cannot find anything in the forums to help your @ss, write up a new post on the forums AND write up a bug on MO's bug tracker (with clear steps and your system's specs), then have some more booze and keep drinking until you get a reply from the community or from the devs, which can take days, so a lot of drinking will be going on, but it helps the waiting time pass.

12. If you can get into the game but it crashes soon after, then make sure Nowgame.exe is not running, re-run the launcher, hit play, go to options- lower the res as low as you can, shadows to low, DO NOT f*ck with the texture settings or anything else marked with a " * " that indicates a restart is needed, those aren't implemented properly yet it seems and can f*ck up your game/installation even more (trust me, you can do it, but as a last effin' resort, f*cked me pretty bad). Basically, in the "Options" panel, turn everything off or to lowest setting for every option that does not have a "*" by it.

Also, you can change resolution and other gfx settings in <root game folder>\Updater\mortalonline\UnrealEngine3\NowGame \Config . Edit the Nowxxx files, NowEngine.ini has the resolution plus most any other setting you'd wanna play with. Make a backup of this file, or not, it's ok to play with this file and screw up. If you mess it up, simply delete it. DO NOT change the default files. The "Now" files will be remade whenever you run the game if they do not already exist.

Once you log in, then STARE AT THE GROUND, that way textures and various other sh*t in the distance is not in your view and not factored into your display- and run like hell for a while, hopefully away from the problem area (which, I know, is difficult for new players), which brings us to:

13. Make a new character or remake your character, and try a different starting town.

14. Make sure you have a decent amount of virtual memory, I suggest 4k or more. To adjust your virtual mem right-click on "My Computer" or use the Start Menu ---> settings ---> and Control Panel then select "System." A tab will be available called "Advanced," select that, then select "Performance" then select that with it's "Settings" button, then click on the "Advanced" tab from the top of that window and finally near the bottom is a section called "Virtual Memory", click "change" next to this. Write a custom size that's over 4000 for the initial size and up to 10,000 for the max size, hit "Apply" or "Ok" and restart the computer.


15. Do not start in the town of Frabernum, or go near it. It's a known bug that being around that area crashes the fugg out of everyone's machines. If you're wandering around and wondering where the hell Frabernum is- it's to the right of the sun as you face it, near one of the tallest spikiest mountains on the horizon, don't go there. If you do not see a mountain that is practically a needle, then don't worry, you're no where close and other hills/mountains block your view, which is fine. You can actually change the LOD mem in the config file to a lower setting which may help, but I'd avoid it for now.

16. With every step, be sure whenever you restart the client that Nowgame.exe is not already running (ctrl+alt+delete, select "processes", and right click Nowgame.exe and choose "end process" if it's there).

17. Enjoy Beta!

Got Windows 7 and i have updated most of my drivers, any suggestions?

Im getting this in event viewer:

S. You need to install latest Physx Driver even if you are an ATI user.

I installed the Physx Driver, but still, nothing happened...

I've updated ALL my drivers. Working w/ Nvidea SLI'd 9800s Win Vista

I click "update.exe" Game Menu appears.. finishes loading "All files are updated" I hit "play".. Game begins to load.. Flash the MO page.. then what I think is the Unreal 3 engine logo (very faint) then bam.. Nowgame.exe has stopped working.. I changed my sound to lower settings.. nada

Riggs, disable SLI and disable physx, for the rest, read above and read more on forums. Remove anything connected to your computer that are not needed (especially usb devices, like headsets and external drives- obviously mouse, monitor, and keyboard are needed, keep those).
Hit ctrl+alt+delete to check your processes, end any process that's not needed. Look at this thread and other threads in this topic, work from there. IF try everything and nothing works, contact Starvault, post yer system specs and dxdiag results and wait for next patch.
Do not expect a reply after officially sending help support email or thread, they have 1 guy working on support, he won't reply, and it *might* get fixed next patch. If not, wait for the patch after that. If not fixed then, drink a lot of vodka, play a diff game for a bit, work, watch movies, and do whatever else you would do if MO didn't exist, then check back a month later and see if it's ok.

tnx man i installed the driver an it finally started up

i also had to set it to run in compatibility mode with service pack 3 and running as administrator, try that and see if it works

Alright, I press play, I don't even get to see a black screen or anything, and it just crashes. Got all the newest stuff, have tried disabling sound, any other ideas that might help?

I there, I had the problem where I had to download latest Physics engine (even tho I'm an ATI user). Done that. Now, at the login page, I put my user and pass, then it gets me something like "Failed do to connect to loggin server" or something (didn't quite memorized sorry...)

Could someone help me please?

Also, are there any requirements for this game, out there? Seems quite "heavy" for my PC. Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, got it working. My PC can't take this awesome game :c Must.Upgrade.It!
