we know exactly one thing about the religious system: it's very customizable. how? who? when? where? what? nothing more then that really.
given that, i think it would be very helpful for the dev's to get some ideas on what sort of deities & paths & religions people here have in mind, to describe their religion ideas and maybe on occasion surprise the dev's and make them ask "can we accommodate for that?", helping to improve the system along the way so what is your character's religion?

Primarily, self faith. But that doesn't help much. If anything, the primary Persona of Rathius would pray to a dragon god, no particular color, good or evil. Just a god of dragons. That all comes from a story outside of the MO world though, since his race can take on the aspects of dragons, from partial abilities up to a full transformation at the highest training. However, to put it into MO, he would still have a reverence of the dragon and a want for him and his people to favor dragon-like abilities and traits.

I have a few characters I RP often. One of them is atheist, with his own complicated story but nothing religious. Another, who relies heavily on drugs for many purposes, worships a particular daemon. A third one is a cult leader that worships the shadow lords (UO Lore) and offers human sacrifices to them.
Depending on how the religion system works I may have a character who starts self destructive cults for his own gain and amusement.

I haven't decided on any of my character's background yet, though I'll probably make one geared towards trade and mercantile. So the religion of choice would be to someone who brings wealth and fortune to his followers, as well as luck. I would imagine him to be a being that in turn requires vast investment from his followers, perhaps constructing gold idols in his name. This is of course one who promotes greed and hoarding of wealth, so I think animal sacrifices or indeed, giving to the poor probably wouldn't be appropriate

The Great Cat God Felissos, whom is worshipped by rogues and wanderers, he is the god of hunt and pleasure, and the origin of the nine-lives myth, as those who've received the blessing of Felissos indeed find themselves very lucky at times of danger. The Capricious Felissos is known to be a cunning foe and a very selfish and self-centred god who demands a lot of attention from his worshippers.
If possible, I could go for that

I submit to the teachings of Goddess Veritas. She is the fair Goddess that has only one thing in mind: Justice.
The highest positions are available for Priestesses but I am one of the male Priests of her. We define Justice a bit different than others though. Any wrong doing should be punished severely. Also, eye for an eye is a very embeded notion for us. We simply dispose of all who we deem unworthy of living and wrong doing.

Belief in an Inner Power. The more time and dedication one spends understanding one's self, the greater an Inner Power one can wield. It requires physical testing beyond the host's limits, and it requires an equally demanding mental understanding. Mastery of the Inner Power presents with ease in performing mentally and physically taxing actions, and indifference to fear. The only true way to develop heightened strength, speed, and tactics is through decades of endurance.
Belief in an Inner Power explains the animalistic urges all beings encounter, but through practice, these outbursts can be focused and willfully initiated. Two overwhelmingly enhanced practitioners, when opposing one another, will usually result in a brief skirmish where the less faithful practitioner will suffer a quick but brutal death. Two significantly enhanced practitioners, when harmonizing, can present with the same deadly force as a small platoon. Or something like that. That's a quickie run-down. |

I would like to see a death worship cult- I really liked Song of Fire and Ice's God of many faces and Stranger. Worshippers would be required to make offerings of their kills at least once a day.
I would also like Forest Spirit worship, kind of like Princess Mononoke with a nice Druidic twist. They could even have Heart Trees and Godswoods - ala Song of Fire and Ice.

hmm... i don't roleplay, altough that might chance, but in real life, i believe in science, wait, that's the wrong term. i know it's how things are. altough, in mortal online, a scientific approach is not necessarily an atheistic 1 as god's will be real. I wonder if there are any bonuses for having a budhism approach on gods (they are there, but i don't really care) just like serving a god will definitely grant u some help from above (or perhaps from down below). I haven't met any interesting gods yet (in internet games or otherwise) but if i happen to run into a god who shares the same ideals as i do, i might become his/her servant. those ideals being: i don't care about good or evil, either is good as long as it serves my purposes and feels right. i'm searching for ultimate knowledge, but i'm not sure whether i'd be ready to sacrifice a 16-year-old virgin maiden to an infernal demon to obtain it. any neutral deities of ultimate knowledge out there?

That was a brief concept before I left for school, closer to release I'll draft a nice, thought out description along with a strict code and hierarchy. I'll keep you in mind. |

In real life I am an Atheist existentialist with some Stoic, Taoist, and Buddhist views (and a smattering of Objectivism thrown in for flavor), and I think that spills over into my RP. Religion is generally not something I consider when creating a character.
Let's see, as I generally play happy-go-lucky chaotic good rogue types favored by fate, I would choose a similar deity. Nothing terribly innovative here....A undisciplined and capricious goddess of chance and benevolent chaos, patron deity to good-natured rogues; bards, and other wanderers. Chaotic good by way of outlook, prizing individualism and magnanimity above all, and placing absolutely no importance on the arbitrary laws of humanity. The relationship between deity and worshiper would be less a master/servant dynamic, and more that of friends and equals; hapless fools wandering blindly along the path of life, guided only by chance and circumstance. As a lover of felines, I could also definitely see a character of mine choosing Catmorbid's Great Cat God Felissos...

That's settled then! I'll start a cult of Felissos!

Archaaz, is your description of your god a piece of background info for catmorbid's Felissos? Because if it is, I think the two of you have made another convert ^^

Just a thought. Maybe the players in the different religions can come up with their religions own spell/skill. So when I get recruited^.^ into this religion I can gain some sort of benefit other than just "belonging" to a religion.
But back on topic sort of? I will be a traveling atheist crushing peoples religions; turning believers into non-believers. Where your god now? Hopefuly some people will join me? Or parad1ne's scientology belief. I would gladly join that. |

Will Smith, the god of strength and outstanding wit, followers have the uncanny ability to "Bel Air" themselves out of any sticky situation.
On a serious not: I'd need a god thats ideals are that nothing is real, no man is right nor wrong, believers who reach the highest level of worship can cast powerful spells the shake the very fabric of your being and of what you believe to be true....something like that would be awesome. |

am i the only one who see's "follow" & "anarchy" in contradiction?
why not replace "follow/worship/etc" with "inspire"? be inspired by the spirit of anarchy for being an anarchist yourself

i guess your right, but thats just semantics. i don't know how the riligious system will work, but i will try to keep my religion as unstructured as possible. so no priests or patiarchs. but i'll see how the system works first.

I seem to notice a pattern here, perhaps following gods of lone wolf type players.
I would favor a deity that follows the aid of others over oneself, a selfless warrior who deems the weak favorable to the strong. Shiva...? : ) That and the ability to boast to said "weaklings." Ha-ha! |

how does freedom trough anarchy work. Somone will always take power and in anarchy it is usually the most brutal. I'm going to have to make it a point to rid the world of mortal from the inspired anarchist.
