I just changed the port to my steam port, 27015, since I already have loads of steamports open -> I don't have to open any more ports -> less work for me

hey Tryst, nice post i have to say, but i have to ask:

is there any alternative to increasing patcher download speeds when you are running off your landlords internet router?

any info would be great.

i could try to ask the landlord for admin and password but im not sure they will give it to me.

use uTorrent, and enable UPnP. And hope your landlords router has it enabled by default.

Try what Luxferro said, Or if you landlord is a nice guy. Try and explain to him that you need a port open so you can upload files to some server for work/school or some bullshit.

So when you say keep restarting until it connects to the remote server, how many times do you mean? Because I've had to have tried connecting atleast 20 times by now and I still can't even get connected to the Remote Server.

Temporarily disable your firewall software/windows defender.

Go to this URL:

http://192.168.1.1/

If a box pops up, try "admin" as the username and "admin" as the password.

If that doesn't work, try "admin" as the username and leave the password blank.

These are the two most popular default setups for accessing Linksys routers. If this doesn't work, look up other popular router addresses and their default username and password. With any luck, you will be able to access the router and change the settings yourself.

no it isn't - not even close - for me and apparently oodles of others

for the recent patch of 265mb if you could actually get past the cannot connect to remote server it would actually download about half way and just stop - then you have to go through the whole rigamaroll of trying to connect 50 times and then download finally to about 98% and stop dead - same routine and finish downloading but of course not installing - you find the patch and try to install it yourself but find the file is corrupt

finally got it from a third party source which solved the problem of the frikkin useless patcher

of course now that you are all up to date you still have to get past that cannot connect to remote server multiple times

this has nothing to do with ports or admins or satellite dishes or the ice cream truck that has been parked outside your house for the last 2 hours or that you are on the moon and think you can get the beta
it has to do with the complete crap of a patcher/loader/installer that has been provided

That's definitely a meg/s, not a gig/s. 1000 kb = 1 meg. That's not that fast, although it's definitely respectable. I download around 3 megs/s on average with a decently seeded torrent.

By the way, nice guide.

Just got connected to the remote server. Launcher then went to the updater and updater said "downloading new launcher." Now the launcher is downloading a patch with working patch notes on left side.

Was downloading at 5 KB/s for first few minutes, then it shot up to 75 KB/s.

P.S.

To get this far I ran the updater file instead of the launcher file located in the MO folder. I have ports forwarded in accordance with OP and I am running the updater and launcher as administrator and in XP SP2 compatability mode.

If anyone needs them. Might be easier than getting them through the launcher.
From 0.01 kb/s to capped speed at 2 MB/s. Much obliged.

So if you don't use static IP's on your lan, the next time you go to use your patcher, you might just have a different IP.

Also, any 192.168.xxx.xxx IP's are local IP's, behind your router. They aren't based on where you live, or your ISP. They are based on your brand of router. Each brand usually sticks to their preferred way; 192.168.1.xxx, 192.168.0.xxx, ect

Then there is also UPnP, if the client and your router support it, you don't need to open ports... the programs do it automatically when needed, then close them when done. But static IP's and port forwarding are the best way to go.
Some routers (the one that comes with Fios for example) allow you to just map the port forwarding rule to your PC name. So, even through DHCP it will hold the rules when your IP changes

OP: Good post. Only other thing I might link is a URL to a site to check the port from the outside and see if it's opening when patcher is running.

edit: uhm.... never mind... I'm just stupid I have already downloaded the half of the second patch and untill the half it was fast...0,1 kb/s now xD

Just a heads up:

Some routers will crap themselfs with to many connections, so if your internet goes "down" while downloading, it might be the router not being able to handle all the connections. So if that happens set max connections to a lower value.

That ip adress is for the local network(as in router), the last number can be anything between 1 and 199 as far as I know. You can decide yourself what it will be, or you can let the computer choose a number for you.

Also, I should read the whole thread before posting.

Right.

I have been trying to get this thing to work for a week.....Here is one thing you might want to know....for whatever reason it WOULD NOT install on any other drive than C. It would constantly fail and only just 10min ago did I get the loader to work after uninstalling and running it MANY times on D & E drives, even in sub-directories of D & E. Not sure if this is intentional, but I didn't see anyone else mention this so I am passing it on.

Downloading V 0.12.19.22. Patch just upped by DEVs I think (a few minutes ago, launcher didn't have anything to download... then on IRC somebody said that patch was up, and here it is!) and launcher is running at 200 KB/s!

Pretty good, I might say!!

GOOD JOB SV!!!
