Recently there have been a ton of threads about the patcher downloading slow and "oh gawd its gonna take me 4 days to download"
It works fine. This is how you do it. First off just start over. Delete your folder in program files, delete everything. Download the .exe file HERE It's a 100mb direct download, when it finishes install it. It should make a new folder and put the launcher on your desktop like a normal game. (About Time) Here is where most people seem to have problems. They start the patcher and it won't connect or it does connect and the download is slow. If you aren't connecting just keep restarting it. It does it eventually. What your download should look like. Spoiler for Downloader:
If It is going slow, it is most likely because your port the torrent is connecting through is closed. First click Options find the Port Number. Spoiler for Options:
My port number is 1108. Also set maximum connections to some high number to make sure you are connecting to everyone possible. 5000 is probably overkill but whatever. Next you need your IP adress. Type "cmd" into your search bar in windows or open Command Prompt however you know how. once in the cmd window type "ipconfig" without the quotes scroll through the writing that appears and find your IPV4 adress. Spoiler for IP Adress:
It is usually (always?) 192.168.1.___ for me at least the last number will change probably depends on where you live and your ISP. Access your router. For linksys and Netgear routers you type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and it will ask you to log in. Generally the login is Admin and the password is password or there is no password. Find your Port Forwarding Section and enter the information. Hit save and you are done. Mine looks like this, I have a NetGear Router. Spoiler for Port Forwarding:

Didn't he go to jail for beating a prostitute within an inch of her life..? ... Anyways... Glad someone decided to post this here. It really is that simple. Mind numbingly easy.

Uhm actually you have to do this for almost everygame. Most games use a torrent patcher, I remember unblocking ports for WoW and Age of Conan. |

Plane crash, didn't you hear? I think there is a conspiracy to kill infomercial actors. Probably some caveman cult. You should do a youtube video Vince style on how to get the new client and patch. Maybe people would understand that one better, or just leave angry halfway through.

In order to use port forwarding correctly you need to assign computers on your lan static IP addresses based on mac addresses of your nic card/onboard nic. If you don't, they are dynamic. Meaning they change depending on what order computers on your lan are rebooted and which computer gets an IP from your router first. So if you don't use static IP's on your lan, the next time you go to use your patcher, you might just have a different IP. Also, any 192.168.xxx.xxx IP's are local IP's, behind your router. They aren't based on where you live, or your ISP. They are based on your brand of router. Each brand usually sticks to their preferred way; 192.168.1.xxx, 192.168.0.xxx, ect Then there is also UPnP, if the client and your router support it, you don't need to open ports... the programs do it automatically when needed, then close them when done. But static IP's and port forwarding are the best way to go. |

Huh, used the torrent file the client downloaded automatically (Found in <Game Dir>\Mortal Online\patches), threw it in Utorrent, and watched as my 50kB/s 12 hour download became a 40 minute 1MB/s download...
Ridiculous... Screw the launcher, it's horrible. End of story. EDIT: Ah, shit. Another patch. Oh well... Last edited by Airship : 5th February 2010 at 01:58. |

Thanks for the deatiled explanation.
I usually support DEVs and respect their job and efforts, but this time I must move a criticism towards them: users shouldn't be supposed to be expert in connection/port tweaking and management. The launcher should just download files without problems by itself: every launcher of every game/MMO I've played has always managed to download its files without issues and interventions from its users, I therefore don't see why SV's launcher should be different. I don't want to QQ or "attack" SV, but I like being honest, and give (hopefully useful) criticisms when they are deserved. |

Nice. I tried forwarding my port 1108 yesterday and running as an admin, but in the end I got around 0.06 kb/s. So I saw this guide and your pics, so I went back and opened ports 1107 to 1109, plus redownloaded client, and now I'm getting ~100kb/s.
Hopefully it'll download before it starts slowing down. I would really like to try this game. |

I'm downloading via torrent: since the download was proceeding a bit slowly, I decided to control my peers, and do you know what I found out?
I found out that they were uploading the file to me at 0.X k/s, but were DOWNLOADIG at more than 100 k/s. So, isn't it possible that the dowloading process is so slow, because lots of people have LIMITED their uploading band?! |

you're also supposed to limit your own upload. you don't want it at your ISP's cap, or it will effect your download speeds. so if your ISP allows 250KB/s, set your limit to something like 100KB/s-175KB/s.

I think this is the case. I have relevant ports forwarded and I am running in admin mode. Also I have set connections to 100000. I am right now getting 45 connections and they are giving me average 10k/s. My main gripe is that the patcher is dependant on other people sharing b/width with you. It shouldn't be like this! Is this how it's going to be for gold? I am sorry but one thing I can't really forgive is slow patching and if it is like this for gold then it's a deal breaker for me To reiteratate YES i have port forwarded, YES i have upped my connections, YES i have ran in admin mode, YES i have restarted the patcher several times, YES i have rebooted my router/computer. SV I REALLY like your game from what I have played in the beta. PLEASE make it so I can play it now? |

Aye, people limiting their upload does suck. If you hang on though, your speed should boost towards the end, as I believe SV has put up a couple of high speed seeds, and they are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Each time you cancel the patcher, then restart, you join the bottom of the queue.
Best to hang on til you hit the top, and see your speed shoot up EDIT: Ze proof... and yes, my internet sucks, thats me capped heh... ![]()

Yep it's an hour ago since I posted my last. My d/l speed has increased to 150~200 but when i hit 99% d/load it throttled right back now i am getting average 0.5k now what on earth is THAT all about? Do they cap you when you hit 99% so it forces you to upload longer? Seems that way cause NOTHING has changes in my setup!

The vagueries of torrents im afraid, you are looking for that last piece that noone has yet, and probably arent high enough on the priority list to pull from one of the full seeds, it should appear sooner or later

Am I more likely to be exposed to virus attacks with my ports forwarded?
Also, when I'm downloading let say a movie with uTorrent I can sometimes max my download speed (8-10 MB/sec). I'm using the exact same port for my MO launcher as I'm using with uTorrent but I still only get like 10-50 KB/sec with the launcher. |

EDIT: I think I get what you meant... it has to do with the number of peers and whatnot. I'm not a torrent expert, but when using utorrent, it says forwarding the port *may* improve your speeds, however it is often not neccesary. With the MO patcher, I believe the limited number of peers make the port forwarding more necessary. Anyone with deeper knowledge of torrents feel free to fill in the reasons. |

don't forget some ISPs are limiting p2p connections/ports.
I decided to try and download it from scratch, I do not use any router my connection is 2.5mb (max download speed is 310kbps). at start it only had 1 connection downloaded the first 2mb at 15kbps. then my firewall jumped to give permission for the launcher, just as I gave it permission, I got 100 connections downloading at 160kbps with 3h ETA for download. as I'm writing this I get more connections and a higher download speed. so... don't forget to open ports in your firewall as well if you use one.

44 connected in my pc, and 1 kb/s download
i opened the ports, even though i was downloading with 100 kb/s for 5 minutes and then droping at very low levels. can my opening of ports have affected the dl performance? oh forget it ,starting downloadin at 700 kb/s and uploading with 20 (basically one of the best uploading speeds i can achieve) Last edited by filionteras : 5th February 2010 at 14:58. |
