It does matter sometimes o-o Especially if your a girl, a lot of time male friends in games want something more than just wanting to play the game together. At least that's been my experience.

Or if you play a very male dominated game like Unreal Tournament 3 for example, there isn't much for you there in terms of conversation. Easy to just ignore stuff there but MMO's are more social, so it's nice to find people more like yourself?

Ya, I spose you're right. I know when I play TF and a woman talks all the guys fall over theirselves trying to be witty/polite/slight the competition etc. So it's probably hard to have a normal conversation as a woman.

But of course if you don't use voice and made a male char then they'll never know! hell even female toons most assume are male.

Don't really see what the big deal is. Humans are humans, what matter is the gender, especially online where you have no face to face interaction?

I would like to think that if I knew a player in an MMORPG is a girl I would treat them exactly the same as everyone else, but I've never been put in that situation, nor has a girl ever asked for special treatment or even mentioned her gender in any of the MMORPGs I have played.

I've even heard that most girl gamers play male characters to avoid trouble.
