So, what about it, should the players be allowed to gain certain titles through certain system for completing series of tasks(well not tasks, but from experiences/deeds.) Or perhaps we can just give ourselves titles within certain rules.
And yeah, this doesn't add anything to your character (Or wait, should this be in order to gain some skills as rewards for vet players? Or open the new classes as there is mention) But myself, I'd like to see nothing else than just a decoration and e-peen strecher. Examples: The Traveller (visit six locations in all around the playable worldmap) The Undefeated (Has played long enough / killed enough players without dying once, this title is removed once you are defeated) The Orcslayer (I've killed hundreds of orcs, next?) The Masterthief (GM pickpocketing, and I just don't get caught / stolen items worth x value) Dreadlord (Uber amount of evil deeds) Sir (For all our little knights wearing rubberboots) The hawkeye (You've fired bow x times, and have over y% hit ratio) Choices are endless! |

Titles in Wurm were kinda neat, until everyone started getting em. A Master Blacksmith was well respected, since most people knew he had to have spent many months worth of playtime on nothing else to achieve that skill level. Trollslayer would have been impressive if it didn't count putting the coup de gras on a near-dead troll (which could one-shot a newbie). I'd like to see unique titles, as well as titles to show player skill or PvP prowess. I especially like the idea of the undefeated title, showing off until someone finally jumps you with a crew behind him and you lose the title. If the game tracks enough stats on a player, we could even have custom titles that are linked to a set of stats. Gaining scars and visual decorations could be cool too. Dunno about skulls, as that's not really my thing, but being able to equip various trinkets would work. A leather strip with a collection of enemy ears you could carry around in your left hand, that's be sweet. The features on the main site mentioned earning scars at once point.. I wondered then if they meant it.

I agree with crafting titles - it's basically like an advertisement saying that they can make that +10 Knife against Orges that you've always dreamed of!
As far as adventuring titles - IDK...it seems kind of lame, and un-neccessary. Who the hell cares that you've spent 30+ hours farming one mab <slow clap> Maybe if you slew a Dragon or something truly amazing like that... I also like the idea of getting scars - visually shows that you're a hardened warrior who's been in the shit! |

yes, i'm not interested in x number of kills. just something like Dragonslayer or somesuch for the real badass mobs.
that and skill-related titles. i liked the idea of a Marksman title for high accuracy.

I liked the badge system that COV had. You could pick one badge to wear.
I was: no-one (man in black)

Exactly, killing thousand orcs, without telling such reward exists, of course, so no one will go after it by grinding, but will surely notice after years when reward: The Orcslayer text is slammed to your screen, granting your warrior Orchewer, some special ability. (*Note, of course, there should be no information can certain classes, or even characters trigger this)

And yeah, I love that accuracy too. |

Titles would be cool, because then everyone would know how good patience you had grinding off orcs to acquire "Orcslayer" title.
Uhh, so if MO too involves grinding, I guess you guys will have fun without me, then.

As long as titles are unique.
I'd love the "Annoying asshole" title. A title for hit ratio can be easily gotten by just bringing a friend along and shooting him pointblank until you get the title.

As for shooting friends, you are probably right, it'd be tough to prevent that. But I would imagine a person would get tired of doing that every time his hit ratio dropped below the required point. So after the novelty of it wore off, anyone who didn't really earn it would eventually lose it again and not bother getting it back.

How about a title system that only available for player if they join a certain faction?
Say what if the player join the Army Corp. (provided that the game has a military corporation), then he/she will be known as Private X, over time, they can earn their rank and become Colonel or Major, etc.

Unique titles gained for doing something in particular are great, but I'd like to see some every day ones that people would respect for seeing.
Using myself as an example: Lord Furai Blademaster Furai Furai the Ruthless etc etc etc I would love it, though I doubt I would find many of the titles interesting (i'm one of those thieving, cutthroat, asshole types that's going to stab you in the back o_O) |

I think a title bestowed upon as a result of a quest would work.
Now before you say "But I don't do quests", allow me to explain. In the Matrix Online, there were missions you had to do, 'Standard Missions', but in the weekly update there were 'Critical Missions' that furthered the storyline. Perhaps once 'Veteran Status' has been achieved, a new branch of quests would be open to you that ultimately (at the end of the arc, or mission, depending on how frequently the quests are put in) give you a new title, such as Panderai the Heretic Slayer? Perhaps I've gotten a Religous Quest/s, and I have completed it/them and they involved the assassination/extermination of non believers. |

I actually like the idea, maybe title can be unlockable features like those achievements on Video Games. Of course we should have some normal title like The Trader, The Watchman, ... which you can acquire buy doing some sort of everyday job. But also we should have a range of title that you can be given by a higher authority (your guild leader maybe). Finally, a list of title for those who (are game-crazed and have enough time) distinguish themselves throughout the course of the evolving world.
A honor/ notoriety - rewarding system should be implemented to go handy with corresponding title.

I don't like titles Either you allow everyone to create there own, or you make them a reward, what is the point if someone has the same title as you and everyone is The Archer or Knight Name if you allow people to create them thereselves.. Id prefer no titles, just a First name and last name, have your title be given to you by your guild as a rank or just call yourself something.. Just my opinion though, in 10 different mmo's, i never used the titles, it was just fluff to me. It does not hurt my gaming expereince to see other people have titles, so just make sure you allow people to not have a title |

I liked the title system in UO, was fairly simplistic.
You never really saw their title unless you opened their paperdoll, and you'd basically be able to view their fame/karma levels, any major champions spawns they killed. (Though I hated champs, and played UO mostly pre-trammel, it was still alright) LOTRO's title system was annoying, damn near everyone ran around with the same title. I usually stuck with my heritage title. <name> of Bree, <name> of Lorien, stuff like that.
