Civ IV was and still is one of the best TBS I have ever played. They are making Civ V as we speak and there's some awesome features in the game !

i have to admit, seen this got me squealing like a little girl.
ofcourse the great thing about someone who played civ games a lot is that after conquering the world several times, you can do that and still be manly.

I'm really happy artillery fires from several squares away in Civ V.

These games are fun in the beginning but are outright boring as hell later on.

I ruin every single game I play thanks to edit mode being there when I am bored out of my mind but still want to progress. I am able to stop myself from cheating in any other game out there though

With that said, I still loved the game in the first 5 hours of each of the 6 games I played

civilization 5 trailer.
no gameplay footage, basically gives an idea for the voice covers style and for a few of the 18 civilizations which will be in release (Egyptians, vikings, Japanese and what looks like Istanbul so i'm guessing turkey)..

I remember playing civ4 the test of time. Loved it, but that was like 10 years ago. I'm more into RTS anyway. Dawn of War DarkCrusade being my favourite.

I think I've only finished like 5 Civ games in my life.

But, it's always fun to see how good you can do until some asshole nation attacks you with a million troops.

I can relate to this, I remember finishing a Civ2 game a long time ago and maybe a few testing-out-the-settings games in Civ4. Other then that, I rarely finish an actual game as I like the beginning part most.

I just hope they go to the Civ 2 mechanics of the Technology race. I hate in the newer games when you get nukes, all have the ability. That is no fun. It is more fun to send a nuke at a chariot.

thats the perfect word to describe it.

some games try to be "amazing", "immersive" and whatnot, but civ's never intend to create a feel of you being there, there goal is just that: to be pleasing to the eye. and yes, those are.

it would be interesting to see the affect the new hexagonal tiles will have on flanking. i am also curious if the "platoon" view on each tile means you'll have some control over what goes in it, like organizing multiply unit types into armies in certain ways beyond simply putting them together.

Lol ! Yeah, there is nothing more pleasing then wtf-destroying a civilization with advanced munitions whilst they are just crawling out of the stone age

However, brings back awful memories of civ 1 & 2 when spearman destroys tank

I ripped-apart and binned TWO copies of Civilisation because I got so frustrated with that game. But I always ended up crawling back to Civ like a desperate and pathetic crack whore.

Ive played since Civilization 3. I remember Civ 2 but it didnt hit me then.

Definitely game to wait. Hopefully they add more random stuff. Civilizations are pretty linear after all and easy to predict.

hahaha yeah exactly thats how I feel each time I play.
Once I discover the gunpowder it becomes pretty boring. A lot of micro and macro administration, etc.
So I like to restart and get the excitement of starting a new civilization again.

I gotta say, the second expansion beyond the sword made civ4 allot better than vanilla. Now if only they could bring back the music from civ3 (game critics can burn in fire, those where some of the best ingame musics ever).

I'm currently playing with the Rise of Mankind + A New Dawn for Civ4BTS, it makes the game like 10x better.

This has some interesting information on the game, especially the first of the three box/links it shows. Also, you can now pre-order Civ V (at least through Steam), and it comes with an extra map pack. There is also a deluxe edition. You can check it out here.

I know for sure that I'll get the game, so I might as well get an additional map pack for it

And isn't that a better way to get people to not pirate your game than DRM?
Edit: Plus of course being able to play online, which is always an interesting thing with Civ.

Considering Im still playing civ4 -or at least mods for it- on a daily basis Im definetly getting civ5. I hope this one doesnt have OOS issues in mp though <.<

I can't get Civ 5 because I'll simply end up spending all night and day playing... Seriously, I've spent too much time playing Civs 1-4 already, so I'm forcing myself in to retirement.
