Lightbulb Quests

How will they be done? are they just gonna be repeatable and universal? or once someone does it will it be closed.

what i want to see done is player created quests. ie a guild needs an errand done or some crafts man needs a couple of teeth then they should make a "quest" for it. the way i would do it is the way you got side missions/contracts in Witcher. there would be a public post or billboard that "employers" would post jobs on. or the post could also be private like in front of their store. it would let crafters stay and craft and allow there to be an endless amount of quests.

In an interview, Henrik Nystrom has this to say about quests:
Quote:
There are no levels or linear quests that you have to follow to continue to advance your character.
Quote:
Rare monsters and quests do not resurrect or come again, whether it's an ancient beast, a crumbling temple, an island rising out of the sea or a great ritual that fails or succeeds.
http://news.mmosite.com/content/2008...506492,2.shtml

Mats Persson explains a bit more in this MMO Gamer interview:
Quote:
The MMO Gamer: The website also mentions that there will not be any respawns of epic monsters for quests?

Mats Persson: This is correct. I don’t want that to be misunderstood that there won’t be any monster respawns at all, of course there will be. But we don’t have any quests per say meaning you don’t do any quest grinding to get skilled up. Quests are more like epic adventures where you as a solo player or as a group can find in the world and as such, the epic encounters will never respawn; they become a part of the world’s history meaning that if you manage to find for example the Great Lich King in his cave or whatever and slay him, he will be gone forever.

Interesting eh? Seems like MO quests will be a bit different than what we've seen in other MMOs.

That sounds to me, like quests were a really rare thing. Maybe you complete only 2 or 3 quests a week that also last much longer. Is that what they mean?

Dunno, they're just saying you don't need them for your character advancement. But from the other sentence it looks like you're right.

nope dont belive in homework plus i didn't know where to look for interviews

anyway i noticed something in the MMOSite interview, and that is that they are planning to realese with one server in europe! so can americans still play or do we have to wait?

any way back on topic, i still think a public "quest bill board" would help in, not only meeting new players, but in keeping quests organized and stuff.

and thanks for the links egg they cleared up alot.

i think they'll be like in old UO - for example, at some point on certain servers orcs invaded the town of cove. You could go there and fight them back (killing a certain number/pushing them back, until the next more powerful wave came, then doing it again) or go around looting bodies, or killing other players there, or not going there at all. The players decisions dictated the outcome, but at no point did you go somewhere and accept a quest, you had no journal message telling you "You must kill 9 more orcs," the only experience you got was for killing orcs/players, and the items you got from the bodies - and maybe a reward at the end to a handful of key players. Afterwards, the orcs were pushed out of cove and guards once again took control over the town.

Interresting character this ''egg'' guy.

Back on topic; I believe the OP idea is good. Im always for stuff that help organise and promote order. I believe a guild, group of people or simply a crafter in need of ressource could place quest on the billboard and depending on preset parameter give the amount of XP relative to the task. But since its not lvl based I doubt what I said was revelent. Maybe cash instead of XP?

well anyone should be able to take a job, but if it out of your ability then you die so choose wisely

A true quest is NOT help a farmer kill 10 chickens like in most MMOs but actually do a quest that is truly hard and can take days to complete.

I like this, but would just change to job/work board people could check to help get them started. Learn the topography of the area, earn a little cash, and can learn about the guilds that are active in their zone. I suppose the general public board have basic manual labor/gathering needs. when you visit the guild/player market, workshop or house to turn in the items, they could have another board with detailed or more specific items they may need, and pay a higher fee to the person who completes them for them.

right so there will be private and specialized boards where only a few(ie guilds, shop owners) can post jobs on them and there will be public board where anyone can put a job on there. this could also be intergrated into a journal system to keep track of the tasks you have to do.
