I think that character names have a large effect on a game.
If I walked around a town and saw names such as: Noob101 IamaPk SUperMAn I wouldn't take the game seriously. Which is why i hate Rune scape, Numbers should not be used in a Fantasy game, its an oxymoron. So names, I think, should be Regulated. Any suggestions or what ever Comment Last edited by Mouse Sidurien : 12th April 2008 at 22:44. Reason: To add a detail |

No names regulation, also make it so you can have colors and weird symbols in your name. 3l33t 'n pR0uD.

Mouse, don't let those types of names make you take the game less seriously, take those players less seriously. Nothing says jerk faster than a leetspeak name, but I must admit, they make great targets!
I also avoid grouping or helping out folk with idiot names or names with more than 4 consonents. If I have to work to type a name in the tell, you are out of luck. You think being offensive makes you cool, you are out of luck there too. Ignore is your friend. Unfortunately, as we all know, folk on the internets are most willing to publically demonstrate their immaturity, lack of common sense and reasonable taste through their pixels. Because of that, I am certain there will be a naming policy. My 2c

Sounds like you need to grow a sack if a few silly names may ruin your gaming experience. I don't like them either but if someone wants to portray themselves as an idiot on their on dollar, be my guest.
I don't really care about the naming convention except that I don't believe we should be forced into using last names.

I'm would be all for restrictions on names,
But its impossible to police properly. Example, a knew a player with the name Casa. It got changed by Mythic because apparently it means 'house' in greek... umm.. so what? So I'd rather have an 'unlimited' ignore list function, and I can just remove the ones I personally don't want to see. |

Glad to see a good response from everyone :P Keep'em coming.
Also, last names should be a optional function I believe because I dont think forcng players THAT much would be a good thing to do :P Last edited by Mouse Sidurien : 27th August 2008 at 19:24. |

The think your last name should be related to your Deva/choosen for you. As for names in general at one end of the spectrum if someone wants numbers in their name then so be it who am I to judge them. However we should just have it so names aren't displayed overhead. It could discourage Mr. AverageMMORPG from responding to "What is your name traveler?" with "Lol, itz Nubkillah2003." Lol.
This might have been discussed before. I'm not sure. |

Why would it be a problem to have a reasonably strict naming policy? The players that will get put off if they had to use a proper name are probably your troublemakers in any case. Will save you hassle in the long run. I really can't see that many people not playing a game because the naming policy is strict.
I always use a last name if I can, but yes, that should be optional.

Agreed, the naming rules should be like in RP servers. If someone named like XxxLegolasias1213Xxx, Noobmaster, Shadowblade etc the players should be albe to make petition to a GM and they will contact them and change their names of their new choice more fitting.
