Server Downtime: Official for 1 hour per day?

It works for Eve, and it would maybe help SV get things sorted out much more effectively. I think now, when the server goes down, they are in a scramble to sort it out.

If the server came down for 1 hour per day this would give them a bit of time to sort things out, and it would not fuck all of us in the process.

Discuss.

I think that is their plan since not only does it work for EvE but for DF as well. Problem right now is all the other downtimes are not planned and until they completely sort out what is causing all the server crashes they'll keep having a few downtimes each day.

I would still count on random downtimes, even with a 1 hour per day set aside. It is just the nature of the beast this early into launch.

We all realize this, but an hour a day would help them troubleshoot problems and reduce "quick fixes" when the server crashes.

You would think they would put this kind of information in BIG, BOLD, ITALIC, and UNDERLINED print in the patcher.

At this moment we do have a 1H/day downtime that we can use. But since the server has downtime because of crashes, and because we need to take it down to fix crashes etc we try to NOT use all of the downtime each day to compensate for the other "unscheduled" downtime.
Server fixes are being applied during this time normally, but sometimes we add fixes during other parts of the day too but only if they are really crucial.

Worth noting that the server did not go down today at the time they have stated in that thread, or yesterday.

At this point, scheduled daily maintenance is just a waste of time.

EVE's database is humoungously larger than Mortal's, so it needs cleaning and defragging everyday, otherwise it would break down in a week.

Absolutely right, but having a 1 hour window to implement bug-fixes and such could well be handy at this stage of the game. No doubt, even with an hour of downtime, there would be crashes and bug-fixes applied outside of this time frame, but having it available helps to take a bit of heat off of SV from all the crying; perhaps the rest of us would use our lunch break to eat lunch as well.
