Default a different take on instancing? maybe...

What if say you were constantly downloading the info about terrain and stuff? like each person had his/her own little radar range and when they move it gathers info about that little bit of territory that they moved closer too so in a sense it would be "seamless" i just don't know whether it would be laggy or not.

Not entirely sure how it works as ive never made a game but i think its alot easier on the server to give you a large chunk of infomation when you get to certain predetermined areas than it would be to constantly update map info as you move.

Basically i think it is better to have a small downtime every now and again, than to have constant poor performance due to constantly downloading new map info.

It's the basic of a seamless world actualy

Little by little or chuck by chuck. It's all about tweak and where you're about. Every FPS got that even on small map. It's just bigger for a MMO
