Failure to Launch

I see Darkfall failed to launch on the proposed date of the 25th and consequently shut down their forums leaving only this message:

Update made at 4am GMT 2/26

A bug was discovered during final testing, and we need to resolve it before we can open up the servers. We didn’t want to launch to just say we launched. We can’t apologize enough for the long delay. The current ETA is two hours but it could be longer. We will launch as soon as possible and we will keep you updated.

We have extended the free month to 33 days to compensate for the inconvenience. Problems will occur from time to time but we need you to know that we’re committed to supporting this game to the best of our ability. It’s unfortunate that we are facing these issues at launch, and we’ll do everything we can to make this up to you.

Fairly typical stuff IMO. Darkfall fans, prepare to see several more downtime's in the next few weeks. Hope they can get everything sorted out on their end quickly.

Glad to see they have given a few extra days already. Good policy, hope it keeps up with any further problems.

I'm so shocked, Aventurine made a mistake!? I'd never have expected them to do anything wrong! It's not like they've completely failed to properly test anything, much less stress test their servers...

Really, if you didn't expect a problematic launch for DFO you haven't been paying attention. Still, maybe it'll make the game bomb faster. That'd be some good news.

Suprising that they have shut down there entire forums, to post that. Gona have a few people slightly worried. Bad idea to close the forum cause of the amount of hate thats gona get vented upon them.

Darkfall is so hardcore the game pk'd it's own servers!

I'm sure they'll have it up soon, I was just interested to see the first day reactions. Not interested enough to check in on it until now, but still I'm curious.

Meh, if you want impressions ask in here. Half of the MO forum members are from Darkfall, and most of us were in beta. I spent nearly 400 hours testing. Unless you're looking for the impression the game makes on the more casual crowd?

Have you visited those forums? I'm not a DF fan but those forums are filled with nothing but a large combination of both fanbois and trolls, this delay is just fuel for the fire. Also lets be reasonable, it's not like THIS is the act that's breaking the back of Adventurine's customer relations award. At least the forum mods made out well on this. *shrug*

Depends on which part of forums. GD is filled with trash, and that's spilled over into OT (Forumfall proper) to a certain extent. It still probably maintains the best game community on the internet... it's just kinda tarnished by all the shit that signed up in 08/09.

As for the customer relations award... I'd give them one for worst customer relations, except that'd imply they had customer relations in the first place.

They've done a few post, that being the newest one, in that format. But ya, I'm waiting for the servers to go up so I can actually do something. I pretty much thought this was how the launch would be on how they rushed Pre-orders releasing them only 2 days before their announced Launch Date.

I'm not surprised by this. Most MMOs have a rocky launch. I'm still looking forward to trying it. Hopefully it will hold me over till MO comes out.

They took servers down to restart it. And it was more like 30 minutes of them being up.

If Darkfall goes abysmally bad...there will be repercussions in the genre. So it should survive somehow.

We'll see... I have every confidence in Aventurine continuing to fuckup in a major way, but still... D&L? AO? Vanguard? I'm just not confident they can do anything (even fuckup) well enough to do worse than that.

Good, they haven't properly stress tested their servers either max they would have had on at peak of peaks is 2500 being optimistic. There were only 4k beta testers again that's being optimistic and might be exaggerated. They've got more shit coming their way if the servers can't handle the patronage.

That will destroy them, and their rep. Not that it's really in a good position now...

Edit: And to the dude who said worse launch ever ... Temet mentioned a few that were way worse. There was also another one with tons of $ to through at their launch who failed worse this past summer.

srsly? fanboy? how many hours were u on the DF forums before u realized the truth?

Honestly, anyone backing DF more than 5% right now is deluded open your eyes man.

I give them a 5% chance of polishing the game up by August or something, but by then people will be darkwhat?
