I love the idea of having to give someone a name unless they explicitly tell you one. That's the way it really should be, since that's basically what we do to everything in real life.

True names should be important somehow, though. When you find out someone's true name (the one they picked at character creation), it would be pretty cool to have some small advantage over them. Something like, you're now able to see their name over their head whenever they get within 10 feet of you without you having to put your cursor over them.

Perhaps, along the same lines, there could by a system where the names are displayed based on your "memory". If it is someone you have encountered before and they attacked you their name would be red. If it is someone you have encountered before and they grouped/traded/interacted with you in a friendly manner their name would be green. If it's someone you've seen in passing it would be yellow. If you'd never seen them before, you see no name unless they tell you.

i would go further to have a means of identifying people who would not be likely to introduce themselves, such as anyone attacking you. some one ganks you and camps on your corpse, you click on them and give them a name for your target list.

Or maybe the bastard could be just randomized a hostile and insulting name like "Loser, ganker, asshole" or "gutless coward", with a number suffix if there are more than one. So you'd have people like "loser-4, ganker-105, gutless coward-42" and so on in your contact list I'd like that.

If a program can allow you to pick your hair in the first place, creating a function to change it should not be far of at all--if not so, it's possible now.

A character picks a style, and that style can have a set length. A character can change styles, but can only reduce length. Over time, the length extends. If a character's natural hair type is curly, when a short cut grows out, it turns into a mess of curls. Straight hair grows out... well... straight.

Hell, if a person has extremely long hair to his/her knees (some guys are freaks), obvious problems could be implemented. Tripping while moving, impeding combat, or any maneuver. Anything past sitting would be affected.

With the things you see in modern day animation, saying something this simple is impossible... well, it's just embarrassing to technology.

I hope there are customizable hairstyles meaning we can create our own. Get a basic one and work off of it.

I agree with this accept one thing: Player names over ones head should be eliminated. A player should give his/her name to whoever as s/he sees fit. To track this, the recieving player can note that character for that name in a function known as "character notes". The only way to see these notes is via mouseover. Also, not having the character's class being automatically discovered on a mouseover would be nice. A player may note it on the mouseover note as well. Reason being is an enemy seeing you from far away would be more inclined to attack you based on what class you were if they could tell simply via mouseover.

On the side of personalization, I like Fable for allowing characters to get tattoos.

Name change can work, and we can easily give it a fun in-game mechanic. You go to a city council in a large city, and tell them your name and request a name change. HE will then ask you for a fee and warns you : This change can only be done once a year. As they cannot be arsed rewriting the personal documents about you non-stop.

just an idea
